This is only worth it if you already have all your land in play and they are all plains.
0/10, not even good in limited. Might be enough of an impact in garbage cube.

Onering's 4 simple steps that let you solve any problem with Magic's gameplay
Whether its blue players countering your spells, red players burning you out, or combo, if you have a problem with an aspect of Magic's gameplay, you can fix it!
Step 1: Identify the problem. What aspect of Magic don't you like? Step 2: Find out how others deal with the problem. How do players deal with this aspect of the game when they run into it? Step 3: Do what those players do. Step 4: No more problem. Bonus: You are now better at Magic. Enjoy those extra wins!
As far as mono-green generals go, this one often flies under the radar. In the past one could argue that green's mediocre drawpower + her need to pitch two cards to do something made her run out of resources too fast, but Green's drawpower has been shored up quite well. In addition, she also provides you with a rattlesnake if you decide not to alpha strike with your lands - any wrath effect will have devastating effects for the one casting it when she's out and untapped. She is a wee bit on the expensive side, but she's definitely cool and should be able to hold her own on most tables.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
One other consideration is that very little of the "lifegain matters" cards care about gaining huge chunks of life; Karlov and Oloro trigger whenever you gain any amount of life which rewards cheap, repeatable effects, and stuff like Ajani's Pridemate, Cliffhaven Vampire, Bloodbond Vampire, and Archangel of Thune are much the same. There are exceptions like Sanguine Bond and Ageless Entity, but the only ones that are monowhite are Cradle of Vitality and Well of Lost Dreams and both of those require mana which limits how great they are when gaining massive chunks of life.

Depends on how you use him. Jolreal's ability costs a lot less mana to animate all a player's lands, so she's much better at screwing a player for wrathing, and making a bunch of lands into 3/3's is capable of winning out of nowhere with the right support. Kamahl is better at targeted and sustained LD as a primary strategy.

I like her, I played her in Cap Sisay and Kamahl both with elesh-norn. But as a general? No one will wrath with her out, and in that sense she is a deterrent which is awesome.
Very good in The Gitrog Monster where lands going to graveyard via death or discard will net more cards. Having black makes Damnation a one-sided Armageddon.
I'm not a fan of most of the legendary spellshapers. The 2-card cost is super steep, and it kind of breaks the design of the spellshaper mechanic "this is a mage, turning one of your cards into a specific other card". Jaya Ballard is the only legendary spellshaper that doesn't require discarding two cards, and she's the only spellshaper that knows more than one spell. If only the other legendary spellshapers could be as cool.
Whilst I think her costing 5 is going to keep her out of the competitive scene 5cmc is very achievable especially in green. Added to that the solid alpha strike/wrath deterrent ability I think is really cool. The main thing for me is whether this or Kamahl, Fist of Krosa is better more of the time.

Modern: RG Titanshift. A deck made of cards too stupid for EDH.
Retired: Lots. More than I feel you should suffer through or I should type out.
I think Kamahl is better most of the time, but an important difference is that, absent having non-land sources of mana (or mana doublers), he's only making 4/4s equal to your number of lands minus five and then halved, whereas Jolrael is making 3/3s equal to your number of lands minus three. Of course, you're in green, so it's not that much to ask that you have creature-based mana, mana doublers, or just a crapton of lands.
I ran a Kamahl deck for a while and it was pretty good, but I'm not sure I ever once used his land animation ability on my own lands. In Jolrael, you'd be using it on your own lands a fair percentage of the time probably, despite the risks.
I will say that Jolrael was a lot of fun in my Johan Lands Attack! deck (giving creature lands pseudo vigilance is tech).

I'm tempted to play alongside Pernicious Deed. Just need to find a deck that wants this.

Mageta the Lion's repeatable wrath that he's immune to is pretty sweet though.

I play her in a The Mimeoplasm dredge deck. She's OK, but a bit on the expensive side. But when the game goes long she's really good. To play her you really need good draw and a graveyard plan.
On the flipside, every land I play past my 24th or so usually get people scrambling for their MLD/Rout/Evacuation, but that is to be expected. High-risk, high-reward - because it is immensely satisfying to kill the whole table in one fell swoop... with my lands.

Essentially a slightly weaker Curiosity that cantrips immediately and only triggers on combat damage and is a bit harder to get rid of. The fact that it gets recast is of note for some decks. The 4 mana upfront cost makes it far from ideal, but I'm sure some decks like it. As far as my namesake mechanic's cards go (Yes, I know it's Cipher and not Cypher) you could definitely do worse.
