Aaaaayyyyy it's the Pimp Beast. At the Dragon's Maze Pre-Release I ended up winning it all on the back of the Pimp Beast and a Desecration Demon. 4 cost 6/6s ain't nothing to scoff at, even with the downsides. Especially with this guy equipped with a Gift of Orzhova. Flying 7/7 lifelinker on turn 5 is moderately terrifying.
In EDH, it's not that great, but playing it at or earlier than curve can still exert a decent bit of pressure.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
WUG tokens. I can easily see her getting out of control with a few nudges in the right directions. Doubling Season / Parallel Lives to double the amount of owls. Even in WU you can use the underused Snowfall and some land untapping shenanigans to play the slow game and keep her around. You can also use a Strionic Resonator in response to her dying in order to double the owls.

Doubling Season would double the age counters, too, so it would essentially quadruple the owls on its own.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Huh, seems way too slow for EDH. Chasm Skulker is far easier to break, and even Twilight Drover can be broken if you have a mana engine out. And that's not starting on a zillion other token engines, especially in white.
This bird-man's gone to seed.

I can see this being good in an Azorius humans deck too.
These decks can all empty their hands very quickly. Imagine having 4-5 creatures in play and following up with this. Seems like a good way to keep the gas going.
Of course, that walks right into a boardwipe as well.
The card that made Airborne Aid look really stupid.
You can play airborne aid in a creatureless deck but you can't distant melody.
You totally can, and I imagine you'd be more likely to draw a card off of a random creature you stole from someone else than from someone having a bird in play.

There's always tribal enchantments. Bitterblossom into Faerie Tauntings into Distant Melody draws you a pretty good grip. It's not a good enough payoff to justify Melody in a creatureless deck, but it's functional without relying on anything your opponents are doing.
I've tried Melody a few times and always been disappointed. It's rare for it to be better than Concentrate without overextending. I might still try it again sometime in tokens because I'm greedy.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
It actually could be green, judging by Shamanic Revelation (which costs one more mana, but you net some lifegain too, and no tribal restrictions).
The only thing this has over Revelation (besides costing less, which is admittedly a BFD) is that this can hit, for instance, Thornbite Staff, while Shamanic Revelaton doesn't.

One of the earlier forays into mono-red looting, Mad Prophet actually isn't a BAD card, but it's not optimal either. Does his best work in reanimator builds or other builds that can take advantage of the discards. As a simple piece of mono-red filtering you could certainly do worse, having haste does help a fair bit in that. All in all, the kind of card you'll find in less powered decks, or some first drafts, until it eventually gets replaced by better cards in most decks.

There's colorless options for looting and card draw that do better than the red versions, Mindless Automaton stands out at this cmc. Bonded Fetch is a very similar card for blue that really makes the prophet look bad.

You're really winging it with these puns.
As far as giants go, he's pretty low on the pecking order. But to bird tribal, he's the Zealot of Pellets.

Owl'd never stoop so low as to resort to puns.
