The only time the extra 2 mana is justified on this card over Demonic Appetite is 2hg, in my opinion, and even then it's a worse Elephant Guide for the most part. Demonic Appetite might be useful in some kind of monoblack infect where the game is over when you play it down.
Oni Posession does give trample, though, and the only other black aura that can get you trample is Deviant Glee.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Basically reads, "Put 3 +1/+1 counters on Kresh, The Bloodbraided, it gets +3/+3 until end of turn". Its a niche card for EDH, but the decks it finds a home in, it really pulls its weight IMO.
From Demonic Appetite to Briarhorn, two +3 pumps in a row.
I never see +pumps on anything get played, unless it's equipment-based or something like Mirror Entity. Honestly, maybe we could just rule off +pumps UEOT indefinitely?
Plus side, art is evocative of the Pagan Green Man.

Probably a niche card in decks that care about flash (Rashmi, Eternities Crafter) or elemental tribal. This is, essentially, a combat trick, but it's on a body so it's not totally unplayable. Just.... kind of.
For a casual Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder you could do worse than this, although you're not going to get to take advantage of the pump. There are many better evoke options.

Nope. You stack it so "sacrifice Briarhorn" goes on the bottom, followed by the Giant Growth (targeting Briarhorn). As they resolve, Briarhorn becomes 6/6, then is sac'd to its evoke ability, giving him six +1/+1 counters. Or you can target a creature you intend to sac to Momentous Fall.
I like Briarhorn. Obviously in Modern. But it has its uses in EDH in Voltron and infect decks, or in decks with a "power matters" theme.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

If you're seeing a lot of combat between creatures of relatively the same size, Briarhorn does a pretty good Shriekmaw impression, except it has flash.
Unfortunately, there's not that much creature combat in Commander.
Due to Comiccon updates on the weekend might be sloppy.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
These are three solid things to have. You do pay for the modality, but of note is that instant speed discard is rarely printed for good reason. Very nice with Fandral Staghelm.
Also you get to go to comiccon whaaaat
One of my favorites of the charm cycles, and yet I never want it in EDH, for the simple reason that if I'm in Esper, I'm running a circus of artifact shenanigans and can't be bothered with this. One of these days I need to widen my Esper horizons.

I like most of the charms, and I think esper's is on the higher end of the alara cycle. Most times it's going to be an expensive Demystify, but a fast Divination isn't bad. My favorite thing about it, though, is how sneaky good an instant speed Mind Rot is on rare occasions.

I could see some uses for it in a casual or very lowered level event. Too many decks want to discard cards, even at random, and having the ability to control when and if that happens can be useful. That said, you'd have a lot to do to make the card actually good.
Not sure if Shirei deckbuilders ever used this card, but I would imagine Black Cat replaced it.
I'd probably run both to maximize odds of being able to wreck somebodies hand when you really need to. No argument that Black cat is the superior version, but I like a little redundancy in my decks.

A staple in my 60 cards esper deck, and a versatile one to have in EDH has well. I have it with Dromar's Charm.
Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest WUR Voltron Control
Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun WU Unblockable Mirror Trickery
Ra's al Ghul (Sidar Kondo) and Face-Down Ninjas
Brudiclad, Token Engineer

Hallar
Ulrich the Politician

Whoa, how cool would it be to have that ability on an artifact? I would love to play charms.dec.

Nobody expects Dromar's Charm. It's one of the more difficult counterspells in the game to hold open, but when it happens it's excellent.
Not impossible, they gave us Brann Bronzebeard in MTG after all Panharmonicon
I like it how the older game can occasionally pick up things that the newer games leave behind.
