I would like to get one of these to replace Yisan as my commander for my mono green deck but the price tag right now is rather high. So just wondering if it would be better to just wait till she rotates and the price drops?
Ya her as a commander lends a substantial amount of consistency to your deck which I like but ya glorified ranger pretty much covers it lol I will wait on her, seems to be the best option
I pulled one at release, then made a deck with her. It has been a lot of fun and she defiantly makes your deck consistent. I used to play Azusa and personally I think Nissa is just a better general over Azusa. She can make more interesting turns and she is more interactive. But they both can hurt you if stolen from you, because Nissa still flips no matter who plays that land. So you need to make sure you can protect her or get her back with ease.
Believe she's a glorified borderland ranger at your own peril. Have a look at the deck in my signature. Nissa isn't as explosive as the likes of Azuza or Omnath, but she's a lot more consistent.

The nonPlaneswalker side is a worse Borderland ranger, then you get her to flip and the only ability that's really worth it is the +1. A steady draw source is really nice, but one that can get attacked tends to be less than ideal in EDH. The -2 is really small and the fact that the token is legendary makes it that much smaller. The -7 is just weird. I know the walkers have to be balanced towards the 3cmc cost, but the -7 is just sad. Turning 6 of your lands into creatures can be powerful with cards like Craterhoof Behemoth which at the time can take out a player or two, but she has to survive long enough to fire off that -7 at just the right time and Craterhoof can do that with a plethora of other cards anyway.
I don't think she's bad, but I just don't think she's worth more than $5 outside of Standard. Maybe you're right, but she's something that I would have to see in action and she'd have to meet a certain expectation for me to think any real better of her.
Nissa, Vastwood Seer is a fine card, but I would not pay $30 for her (the current going rate on SCG and CFB). It's a good card to want to flip because the +1 ability is so good and the -2 is actually not something to be underestimated. Since its a Mythic Rare in a set that probably didn't get drafted that much the cost will get driven up, but its not like its in a ton of Standard decks and that there is a huge demand for it (GW Megamorph being the big one, but some fringe decks like BG Eldrazi Ramp and the Bant tokens deck) so the price may come down eventually as long as there is no Modern deck that wants it.
It could be worse... you could want Jace, Vryn's Prodigy and need $80 to get one, and even then supplies seem thin; people don't want to trade them right now and I see the price for it continuing to go up and getting into Jace, the Mind Sculptor range (which dropped a bit since it was reprinted in FTV:20 and is banned in Modern, but is sill a $90-$100 card).
That's the thing though. Are you going to attack a Coiling Oracle that can be recast at any moment's whim? Or are you going to go for one's throat? Nissa is an engine, doing slow but steady work. Sometimes you'll want to pop her -2 as Ashaya can provide a decent blocker and can trigger a few toys in the deck (Earthcraft, Garruk's Packleader, etc) and personally I've activated her ult only once (People do want to avoid her ult), but it's just not needed. For 3 mana in the command zone you get to smoothen out your land drops and you tick up a few cards. That's a very good deal, even if it may not seem like such at first.
If she's worth $30, that's a different deal. I had the good fortune of trading one for a Kytheon on the day of release. She'll drop once she falls out of standard, so if you can wait a year...

Nissa is insane in my deck. Way too much card value for 3 mana, especially more than a Borderland Ranger could ever accomplish. + Draw/Ramp engine, - big beater maker and win con ult are all fantastic. Maybe not worth the money right now, but definitely worth the $20 I got it at.
I'd like to say she's very justified in a control shell. I utilize her in my Karador deck and I've won plenty of games off her ult, which is pretty ridiculous considering people don't like her ult that much.
