I'm a Big Green fan - Timmy extraordinaire. I like my creatures meaty and my mana pools full. I've been playing a mono green deck for a while now. It's evolved over the years. I started with Green Goodstuff, threw in a couple legendary creatures so i could pick and choose my commander, but the deck basically always played the same, it was just about ramping into fatties and pumping weenies.
Then i got bored and tried a mono green enchantress build, that only stuck for a little while.
Then Titania, Protector of Argoth came out and I saw something new in green - a techy/stratego flair that I hadn't seen in green before.
Now I'm wondering if there's any possible build for a spell-slinger deck in green. I'm just looking for ideas, commanders, builds, that fit outside the ordinary playingfield of green. Green is great with recursion (AHEM, Regrowth, Noxious Revival, reclaim, Revive), but what spells would green want to recur, and how do those spells interact with an opponent, or a green deck?
The first three are weak to (mass) removal. The third and fourth synergize a bit. The last two work well with tons of ramp.
Ramp is ramp is ramp.
Recursion is good.
Removal, look above. You could also use some prison like enchantments/artifacts to control the field. Can include fight stuff and creatures for it if you want (works well with type 1 draw).
My Karador deck often lives and dies by how well it manipulates and re-uses Genesis Wave, the same being true for Tasigur and Villainous Wealth (A.K.A. Nemesis Wave). Mono green can do it almost as well, and also has some other "big green" X spells. I'm sure there is something there.
Monogreen enchantress looks possible from the messing around I've done on TappedOut. I was thinking about making a Patron of the Orochi enchantment-focused deck. Helix Pinnacle could be a win condition. The problem with focusing on instants/sorceries or enchantments is that monogreen can't tutor them up so you're stuck on artifact tutors or none at all.
This is definitely a deck to be helmed by Lady Zhurong, Warrior Queen - the bluest green legend there is. She screams control, ensuring you grind away with commander damage while controlling the board through recurred Squall Lines, Stunted Growths and Storm Seekers. This deck might even have a place for Tornado.
I think Yeva, Nature's Herald would argue with that. She's the blue half of Prophet of Kruphix. Making all your dudes instant can make all your guys with EtB triggers act like spells.
I built Titania recently and I'm loving it. It's not really a spell-slinger deck, though you can run it easily with very few creatures other than the ones your general makes. I'd sort of describe it as a deck that plays like a black deck and wins like a green deck: a lot of trading resources and sacrificing for benefit, until you can get to the point of going all stompy on your enemies.
One control element in green I can definitely recommend ( especially if, you know, there are blue players around ), green's isolating effects, Hall of Gemstone, City Of Solitude, and Dosan The Falling Leaf. Green will never be able to match Blue's ( or for that matter, even Red or Black's ) interaction with the stack, so these things hose draw-go control like no tomorrow. ( Dosan himself might be worth running as a general of a green goodstuff deck that wants to keep afloat in a blue heavy meta. )
The one route I haven't tried with Titania is Stax, which is certainly viable. Green's taxing effects are weaker than other colors ( I'm thinking a Titania stax would rely heavily on artifacts ), but unlike most other generals, saccing our lands gives us value. Late game, Winter Orb ( or the like ) on the table, floating your lands' mana, saccing them for Elementals, then casting Natural Balance seems like something Titania would really enjoy doing.
The thing about green is that in terms of things it can do for you, it can do almost anything other colors can do if your creatures are involved or if opponents' creatures aren't involved ( with a few delightful exceptions like Harmonize, Beast Within, Song Of The Dryads, etc. ) This means most green wins are creature based. The suggestion upthread of Yeva, Nature's Herald is really good in this respect, as it allows instant-speed answers in the form of flashed in green and colorless creatures, all of which green can tutor for readily and often at instant speed.
I think for a largely creatureless green control I'd probably pick one of the two generals more known for stompy: Azusa, Lost But Seeking or Omnath, Locus Of Mana. The ability to generate a colossal Squall Line or win via Helix Pinnacle is a thing their engines will let you do even if you're not casting fatties.
If you're playing Dosan in a draw-go control deck, you're doing it wrong. As it is, I'd rather have my stuff be functionally uncounterable than take the chance that, in mono green, I'll have an instant speed answer to combo ( which is occasionally handy, but not reliably so like in blue ).
In the case I mentioned the Dosan player had no way to stop the Maelstrom Wanderer player whatsoever. He was essentially just running interfering for the Maelstrom Wanderer player, preventing the rest of us from stopping the shenanigans. It was annoying game.

Ideas? This is an open brainstorming session.

I'm going to be following this thread.
Bang.
Let's look at Green's 5 types of card draw:
Big creatures:
Lots of Creatures:
Enchantments:
Slower Long Term(more like card quality):
Big Draw:
You can pick one or two categories.
The first three are weak to (mass) removal. The third and fourth synergize a bit. The last two work well with tons of ramp.
Ramp is ramp is ramp.
Recursion is good.

To win, do whatever, I'd like to make a Life Stream Hurricane Ramp deck one day.
The Hurricane or Squall Line win condition goes well with Glacial Chasm.
Bösium Strip is must if you do go full spellslinger in monogreen. Early Harvest and Rude Awakening for tons of mana, especially with doublers. Oh, and Hunting Pack for a storm kill. Mirari is another enabler.
