I have decided to build my first EDH deck and have narrowed it down to these two generals. I have some requirements though, like I do not want to win by infinite combos. I like Animar more but every list seems to win by some sort of infinite combo. Any help would be appreciated.
You can build both to not have infinite combos. So I suppose what you really need to decide is if you want to play creatures for cheaper costs and turn guys sideways (animar) or ramp, play big mana spells/creatures and copy them (Riku).
Riku has an easier time on deck building without having to resort to infinite combos. Best part about him is that you can build him in... a lot of ways, it's insane.
If you want to actually use your creatures and get value off them, I honestly suggest Riku. Certain EtB dudes are powerful when Twin'ed (Inferno Titan, Frost Titan, Diluvian Primordial just to name a few.)
both can be fun, but animar protects himself a heck of a lot better than riku does. im my experience, riku gets killed off usually as a byproduct of something else happening on the board; whereas animar sticks (protection from black and white, the 2 most creature-killing-heavy-colours really helps).
and not every animar deck wins by infinite combos. i had a mate once who had a animar "stylish hats" deck, where all creatures in the deck has/are altered to have a stylish hat on its head; and all equipment/auras had some kinda fashionable thing attached to it, and that won via aggro and style. in theory, you could quite easily turn your animar build into a voltron general, adding things like glamerdye and whim of volrath to protect/make animar unblockable.
