I've been making a lot of threads lately (last one this week! I promise!) But I guess its only because I haven't played EDH in 8 months and am starting to get back into it. Over the last week I've been writing up a whole bunch of decklists for new decks to print and proxy, and then eventually buy. Anywho, I have managed to narrow it down to two possible commanders which will be the first I'm going to print up and play (with the proxies). I was wondering, which commander would bring more hate (which would you try to eliminate first?) between jin-gitaxias, core augur and oona, queen of the fae. Assume you have never seen the deck/pilot before. Thanks in Advance for any and all replies
If I see an opposing Oona deck I'll immediately suspect a focus on infinite-mana combos. My own Oona deck doesn't work that way but it's a common build. Even with that assumption, I fear a tuned Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur deck equally and dislike the card. I'd most likely direct more aggression at the Jin deck.
because every oona build i've encountered tends to be infinite combo oriented, and explosive, while controlling the game... absolutely oona.
jin is a nuisance. he's dealt with very easily through removal, or you can always clone him, or steal him, plus he's expensive to cast. he's not really something i worry about until later in the game.
From first glance and only knowing the generals (not the deck or the player), I'd target the Jin-Gitaxias player over a Kaalia player. That's saying something for me.
It depends on the cards supporting these two. Most tuned oona decks try to control the game and then combo for the win. Most gin decks... well... he comes out end game and has blue to support and protect him while nuking everyone's hands. Honestly, he's scarier as part of the 99 so my vote goes to Oona or the commander not mentioned.... norin... always target norin.
I agree. We should all only play g/x decks because they are the most objectively fun and anyone who disagrees does not know the truth about EDH. Everyone should just play their decks because interaction beyond high fiving about how many land are in play is unfun and equivalent to casting Stasis while kicking puppies. I for one will never play with anyone who casts tutors, removal spells, blue cards, things I arbitrarily decide I don't like but will probably cast myself later.
oona. comes down earlier, and is actually good at sealing the game. jin-gitaxias is just obnoxious, and from the command zone can't be so easily cheated in early enough for it to matter.
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
Oona. Jin's hand reduction effect can be easily mitigated with Reliquary Tower or Spellbook, and if you end up discarding you can still get your cards back or even take advantage of the fact they're in the graveyard. But Oona outright exiles the cards while also providing creature tokens just to rub it in your face. Plus as a blue/black legend she's most likely being run with annoying black discard and removal while also having access to all the annoying blue mill and permission that Jin has.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Depends on the deck I am playing. Karador, Ghost Chieftain wouldn't really mind Jin-Gitaxias, because there is not much difference between graveyard and hand. I can also easily tutor Spirit of the Labyrinth. Oona would be a problem for the deck.
I know Oona can go infinite and win easily, but I am not going to assume this is the case whenever I see her. Jin-Gitaxias is always oppressive against my other decks, so I will always target my hate towards it.
I'd say Jin is actually less scary as a general because he can't be as easily cheated into play by reanimation and if you see him coming, he can be dealt with. However, I'd still assume a Jin deck is out to ruin everyone's fun and he'd still be a target. Oona probably even moreso, though.

Black is incredibly powerful. Combined with Blue which is also ridiculous. Oona.

Oona can do any number of infinite combo shenanigans, but so can any tuned blue-based deck.
