Hey Guys! Just a quick discussion if you will humor me
I just got 6 Greater Good's online for about 5 bucks a piece (1 order 2 for 10, the other 4, for about 22). I thought this card was like a solid at least 8 bucks if not closer to 12. Is this card falling out of favor? Is it rumored to be reprinted soon?
Starcicy has them sold out nm at 7.75 and sold out nm at 7.59... Do people see this card going up for some reason? I'm just curious because I have seen this card do some pretty disgusting things in EDH, and just wanna be informed lol

I don't see EDH driving up the price of this card, or driving it down for that matter. That said, the reign of fatties has sort of ended where I play. Most folks I play with pay attention to building decks with modest curves. Greater Good doesn't seem like an auto include in any deck with green.
It seems like a fantastic card to me. Even operating on a modest curve, there are a ton of ways to generate a ton of value with it. Even if you only treat it as a one use thing on something as silly as a Beast Within Token, Draw 3 cards, discard 3 cards for 4 mana isn't terrible in the right deck. With the potential to be so much more than that I think it's worth it, and I consider it for every EDH deck that runs green.

Whats your edh crowd up there? Just curious lol And ya I guess EDH wouldn't drive this cards price up too much, but I would say that for other cards it could no doubt.

See that's what I'm saying! lol this card can be pretty busted, and If it't not answered soon in our group it's extremely grim looking for the people opposite side of this card lol
Robthemann might be coming from a very fast meta. In a meta that includes multiple decks that threaten to win turn 3 or 4, I would reconsider my position on Greater Good. But in most others, I still think it's phenomenal.
I love the card, but only play it in decks where it really shines, like in Karador.
I'd play it a lot more though, if I didn't have to chose between white borders and that awful saga artwork. The 9th edition foil is GORGEOUS but expensive.
after reading the other responses I am going to reconsider my grammar and my position. I meant to support the price not being driven by EDH by implying that in meta (which isn't so much fast as focused on efficient creatures) the card is not an auto include in any green deck. it is an autoinclude in certain decks though (Karador, as pointed out earlier). Speaking of, I will put it in my Karador deck and see what comes of it.
We see a fair amount of graveyard hate so filling the yard in splashy way tends to get your bin exiled. Also the power level of decks is farly high, so ditching a creature for card draw can put one back too far.
I run a Mayael deck and Teneb the harvester deck so for me this will be a great addition. But I totally can understand it not being an auto include for green decks.
Ya let's be honest that art on either of those cards other than the promo aren't the best to look at either lol
Greater Good is insanely powerful, I have lost countless games to this card, it makes creature removal insane card disadvantage, it turns every fatty into a fat draw spell, but only when you need it, it totally enables graveyard shenanigans and as an enchantment it's incredibly difficult for 3 of the 5 colors to get rid of.
Greater Good has grown to be more a deck specific card versus a Green staple since the name change to Commander. I have played EDH regularly since 2001, and there have been many playgroup and all encompassing EDH trends that have caused this great card to shift in use. Once, Greater Good saw play in most Green+ decks; as the format evolved, it has seen less play. Decks have grown more efficient. Large P/T creatures are more utilitarian versus an attacking threat and having a sacrifice outlet has grown to be more of a deck specific thing. There was a time when efficient sacrifice outlets like High Market were in most decks. Maybe the one life is the problem. I prefer to kill my creature than see another take control of it. The Multi-Color trend has has helped with the shift. Ravnica: City of Guild block introduced more, arguably...more powerful, efficient multicolored decks with identity. Now Blue or Black is commonly paired with Green. They have efficient, if not more efficient choices. Why discard three cards instead of just drawing the X amount if one is not going to make it deck specific. The Alara block helped as well. New Ravnica, Khans and the future Multi-Color sets will only perpetuate the trend. Also, some newer players do not know about Greater Good. When did 8th Edition release? 2003. Some of the newer players were not even born. Research.
I only see the Greater Good in my friends Naya Creature Combo deck. It simply generates infinite mana and plays the entire deck. Greater Good is used as a facilitator.
This is a Great card! A staple in any green deck for sure. Free sac outlet, card advantage, cheap mana cost. Even if used only to stop a tuck on an important weenie, it still lets you sift through some cards and set up the next turn. But I agree that the art on the white boarder version sucks...
This card is basically autowin in Sidisi. Sac a zombie, dredge twice, pitch the dredged cards, generally get two zombies back out. Churn through your entire deck, Dread ReturnLaboratory Maniac, win the game.

yeah it's a solid card in green and just because Starcity is selling them for around $7 and they are sold out doesn't mean they are selling them, they might just not have stocked them recently. BTW EDH very rarely drives the prices up on cards, it has and always be vintage that does. Unless I have missed something over the past decade.
It is a great card but the issue is that people have been more conservative with their curves of late which means more small cards. ETB creatures in the last 5+ years have continued to push for small p/t creatures with solid abilities. Greater Good is a great card but on the flip side its generally speaking stronger to go with a low curve small creature and put Skullclamp on it than it is to mash big creatures with Greater Good.
I remember buying 2 copies of Greater Good like 5 years ago for $1.00 each or something like that. The price tag has gone up a lot due to the format but in the last few years it still hasn't gotten better, I would argue that its likely gotten worse as most decks are slimming down their curves and running less green fatties in deck.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

I'm not sure how it's an auto win unless you pack it with creatures and lands with return & good. Maybe i'm just blind though. I mean if you don't hit any creatures it's no good.

My deck is nearly half creatures, so when dredging 3-6 you're almost guaranteed to hit one every time. I have literally never done anything but mill my entire deck when casting Greater Good in that deck.

ahh yeah makes sense to me...wasn't sure how many creatures you ran in it. Sounds like a solid deck.
I always really try to run Greater Good in more of my decks but honestly I dislike discarding unless im playing reanimator. Karador and The Mimeoplasm are about the only decks that see this card but WOW do they benefit from it!
The real power of this card is being able to stock your graveyard. I tend to play it more like a budget Bazaar of Baghdad in my Kresh deck. When you're also playing things like Sneak Attack, Living Death, Coffin Queen, etc the card advantage is insurmountable. Draw and discard is nice if you play fatties, but graveyard shenanigans is where it really shines. I rarely lose games in which I manage to stick a Greater Good for 2 turns.
It remains great in any of my G/x decks that:
1) Need card draw
2) Regularly have large creatures to spare
My Zegana merfolk tribal, Shadowborn Karador, Marath and Kamahl all benefit greatly from this.
I've found that I love to play a Realm Seekers and resolve a few activations before tossing it into a greater good for a dozen or so cards in hand.

You've missed something. There are plenty of cards driven only by EDH. Vintage is too small to have a significant effect outside of some of its signature cards. Legacy and modern have a greater impact on card prices, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for EDH demand to push a card up into the $10 range. Look at Regal Force. It doesn't see any play outside of EDH/casual to the best of my knowledge, but its relative scarcity and strong effect keep it pretty pricey.
I picked up a foil 9th Greater Good for about $6 some years ago, and it's unquestionably my favorite card. I don't typically play decks that can really take advantage of it, but I've built decks for the express purpose of using and/or abusing it several times now.

Keep brewing
but yea if your meta doesnt have a lot of fatties, i can understand it not being so prolific. it seems a slight miss in a mayael deck though
