Frontier Siege got me thinking of doing a (probably terrible) EDH deck with all the green flyers, of which it turns out there are 29 native, 3 gain as an activated ability (so cannot trigger), 1 token off of Giant Caterpillar, and then 2 that are non-mono green color identity. So that actually already gets me fairly close to a deck. Add in the aforementioned Frontier Siege and Bower Passage plus a standard stock of Forests and I'm about 25 cards shy of a deck. Before I fall back on the standard utility cards I was hoping to toss in any more cards that are out of Green's color pie. I already tossed in the three Sting cards for direct damage; are there any other cards that are things green doesn't get to do that I'm missing?
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.
*sigh* It's because green isn't the color of transmuting opponents creatures. Colors are different and have different abilities.
If blue gets creature exile for super cheap just because it's flavored as transformation, I think green can be given the same break when things are in flavor. Beast Within maybe doesn't make a whole lot of sense when it hits non-creatures, but the other green transmutation spells seem perfectly fine.
If I recall correctly there is a green deck in the multiplayer forum built entirely around the theme you're looking for. Unfortunately I can't recall who the general was or the deck creator. It was full or Bee Sting and Hall of Gemstone type stuff.

Flavor is flexible enough that you can justify just about anything. The color pie has to be held mechanically to a higher standard.
And then he turns around and justifies blue getting cheap exile effects using a flavor argument. I respect the guy as a game designer and a lot of the things he says are spot on, but he does produce some glaring contradictions. Justifying exile on the cheap for blue where the only drawback is they get a 2/2 is one of them. At least the green enchantments are more easily removed, and then you can get your creature back.
Blue has transformation magic. I get that. But if he wanted to keep up the mechanical weakness of blue in being unable to decisively deal with creatures once they're on the field, he should have stuck to designing temporary transmutations like Turn to Frog or ones that have more limitations.

How powerful the card is has nothing to do with whether it's in-pie or not. hornet sting is just as out of pie as-is than if it dealt 20 damage, or if it cost 20 and still did 1. Transformation magic is generally costed pretty efficiently because in other constructed formats it would be pretty terrible otherwise. Afaik pongify and rapid hybridization see next to zero play in modern, and I doubt if this new exile spell will be any different. However, in EDH where you're removing avenger of zendikar instead of delver of secrets, it looks pretty strong to only pay 1 for removal at the expense of giving them a 3/3 token.
I think transformation could maybe be done more flavorfully as an enchantment for blue, but I'm kind of glad they haven't done it that way since it's even more annoying for commander.
Be a lemming hunter. Don't be a lemming. Really, all you had to do was explain to him the popularity metric, not give him the lemming hunter manifesto...
Living Artifact is weird because why should I even have to enchant an artifact? That's my only issue with it. It would work fine as a non-aura enchantment, albeit a really weak one.
Narcissism is interesting for breaking the NAME color pie, for having a totally black name.
Village Elder can untap artifacts. (Normally, green can just untap creatures and lands.)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Ritual of Subdual or Stunted Growth; both printed in Ice Age and never really caught on as green.
Root Maze type cards have seemingly all moved to blue and white.
Interestingly enough, when Yavimaya Ants was first printed, it was out of green's color-pie slice. It has since moved into Green with the printing of things like Timbermare, Vengevine, and Groundbreaker.
Maybe a pointless question, but wouldn't it be a lot better to change it from G to R/G?
You can use Xenagos or Atarka as general and stuff the deck with dragons and other flyers. Red got a lot of flyers anyway..

Personally, I don't see why that isn't okay while things like Pongify and Rapid Hybridization are, but alas...

Even though I think it's perfectly in-flavor and fine as a green card. Shares nearly the same flavor as Lignify.
Also don't forget the green "kinda-not-really-flyers" (eg: Spire Tracer).

Thanks to Planar Chaos, you can have both: Harmonize.
