So I'm building a new white EDH deck and Cataclysm is one of my favorite cards of all time. The flavor is great, the (new FTV) art is stunning, and I just love that word. However is it actually any good? Is it worth buying? The deck I am gonna put in is a white equipment/tokens deck with Kemba, Kha Regent as the commander and I want it to at least be good in casual EDH and able to hold its own in my LGS's occasional EDH tournaments. Thank you.
With Assault Suit you can essentially choose two creatures, but not really sure if that's what you're looking for. I really like it in my Sliver Overlord list with Patriarch's Bidding and Living Death. Unfortunately everything else is sacrificed, so you can't keep Kemba decked out and roll through with tokens. Not sure if Cataclysm would fit your deck, honestly, but hopefully someone comes and says I'm wrong.
It's an excellent card with the potential to backfire on you if you're careless. I had the most success with it in Tariel, who could rebuild the board alone after firing it off, so I could see Kemba operating kind of similarly. You should also be aware that some people are going to get annoyed with you for nuking lands, particularly in more casual circles.

I think it would be best in a voltron build like rafiq with swords or uril with auras

If you run it in a W/G deck with Life from the Loam and keep an artifact rock, it becomes very one-sided. Weebo summed it up nicely though. As long as it doesn't backfire and your group is ok with it, the card is really good.
It depends on how you use it. If you're in the position to use it as a finisher, where you're the only one able to do anything significant and you can win soon (say if you keep Kemba with Whispersilk Cloak and Angelic Destiny), then go for it. If you're looking at it as a board wipe, you probably want something else. Used like that, it just slows games down in a way that people can often get very unhappy with.

Agreed. It is additionally pretty unfair with things like Sun Titan, Parallax Wave, Reveillark, and persist creatures. Martyr's Bond will ensure that your opponents have 0 creatures instead of 1. Also remember that you can float mana to cast an extra thing after the sacrifice.
FYI it is banned in French 1v1 list, so check what your tournament is using before you do too much thinking.
Thanks guys. Yeah I guess it's kind of a reverse board wipe in the sense that you really only want it when you're ahead, not behind like other wipes. I'm gonna put it in the commander precon deck and it looks like there are a couple cards in there that would combo well with it.
Cataclysm is one of the cards I'm most happy to see when I'm playing Sigarda, Host of Herons. Just be wary of opposing voltron since they will usually profit greatly when you cast it.

Play it in a deck that can easily rebuild its position with its commander and little mana, like Captain Sisay, who searches for Flagstones of Trokair, Gaea's Cradle, and some other legendary lands.

This. You can also use Sun Titan to get your CMC ≤ 3 stuff back every turn. Throw in some sort of token-producing enchantment as your surviving enchantment. In fact, you know what also helps? Ordeal of Nylea (and the other ordeals too) because it triggers off the sacrifice for any reason. (Eldrazi, Martyr's Bond, and, yes, Cataclysm)
It's also good in superfriends, since you don't sac planeswalkers.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Pretty sure you do.
Regardless Cataclysm is one of the cards I'm happiest to see in my GAAIV deck's opening hand. Cataclysm after playing GAAIV with any mana rock is usually an insurmountable lead. It won't win you many friends, though.

If you do decide to run it, you'll want to get a Flagstones of Trokair for value.

(Green also opens Birthing Pod which is quite unfair and Selesnya Sanctuary which could be your one land)
Sadly, my regular opponents don't trust ITB, so it rarely goes off.
Cheers!
