Hi, I was really excited to see the Heavenly Inferno deck from MTG, but then I went to ebay and such to find out they are $100+ :'(! ....Guess I will have to make my angel deck purchasing individuals...anyways;
Was curious, do you think the 2014 Red deck will be worth more with time? Since it is just 35$ bucks today, think its a worthy purchase to flip later on?
The original run of Commander decks had a much smaller print run (and fewer reprints) than C13 and C14. I would not bank on Built From Scratch hitting that high of a mark.

Thanks! That heavenly inferno one was pretty awesome though, such a shame :(. It is still pretty ok though right, for making a similar clone via individual purchases?
It is entirely dependent on the secondary market. I don't think these will command the price the original precons do now though. It will mainly boil down to supply and demand coupled with how many are left sealed. Say for some reason one of them is really good and a lot of people want it then it could go up, especially once it goes out of print and people keep opening them. This is why Alpha and Beta packs are so expensive; each pack that's opened decreases the amount in circulation.

This year's commander decks have a way better ratio of good cards to bad than the usual. The red one, specifically, is very very focused compared to a normal precon. If you're going to make a mono-red artifact-recycling deck, BFS is probably worth buying as a base.

Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!
If you simply want to make a long term investment, then the Red deck seems like the best bet. The commander is unique and powerful, and the deck includes some good staples like goblin welder. However, the decks are still in print and even for awhile after they go out there will still be a ton of product floating around. Just go look how cheap you can find last years Commander products. But I assume in 3 years or so they'll start creeping up as sealed boxes become harder to find, especially if they stop making planeswalker generals so that this batch are the only five.
If you have the patience to buy it and sit on it for years, then yes it is almost certain to go up eventually. For the foreseeable future, however, I doubt it'll break MSRP.
If you just want a deck to play the Red one is probably the best of the bunch.
For flipping and just selling later for profit, no. For getting a lot of good commandercards and a decent/good value for an easy way into the format, definitely.
The c14 decks have a much larger printrunt than even the c13 decks, which the "best one" ran out in pretty much all stores even though the stores increased the price by 5-10$.
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
I am going to have to echo what others have already said. These might be the best sealed decks WotC has produced. Most of their sealed decks have some four or five good cards and a pile of garbage. Mono Black is more my style over mono red, so I bought the Sworn to Darkness deck and am quite pleased with that purchase. If you are looking for a deck to open up and build upon, then yes, it is worth it.

"Whatever style you wish to play, be it fast and frenzied or slow and tactical, the surest way to defeat your opponent consistently is by dominating him or her in the war of card advantage." - Brian Wiseman, April 1996
I actually went ahead and bought the Green deck. My fondest childhood memories of Magic were of Onslaught elves with some Legion cards. I learned to play magic when I was like 7-8 years old and got gifted a 7th edition starter pack with Thorn Elemental...such a shame, I went to a baptist-oriented school and my bible studies teacher saw them and actually burned them with fire since magic=evil/satanic... YUP.
Anyways, ordered a green deck for 27$ free shipping on ebay, looking forward to making the best deck available for Elf-Commander!
I'll also start searching for what I really want out of a commander angel deck and hopefully don't get asked too much money per individual cards.
Oh one last thing, looking forward to buying the Anthology 100$!
well it depends. For me, I am shelfing my sealed box and while i know it won't skyrocket in price anytime soon i feel in a few years it may start seeing some profit. It also has some very good cards in it. Its really tough to not open and BFS is the best of the 5. I may purchase a second BFS just to reap the better cards ad sell the crap.
The 2011 decks are filled with much better staples, and still house some of the most powerful commanders ever printed.
The new ones have just as much stuff more staples and a lot more rares and mythics. If you make side by side comparisons the power level of all 3 sets are similar. The fact that the older ones were way less printed than the new ones is the reason for the price discrepancy - NOT power or utility.
Built from scratch is an amazing deck to play. I have it and I don't plan on modifying it. Before C14 my perception of the commander products was very negative to the point of damaging the format. WOTC has totally redeemed themselves. Just the manabase alone showed me the group who formulated the decks actually looked around at a few lists.

It should be noted that a factor towards C2014's lower investment value is in this high volume of quality reprints as well. Nearly all of the reprints in this set of decks had been out of standard rotation long enough to stabilize in price, and the influx of cards from C2014 will keep them from creeping up in value for a while to come. The new cards introduced being mono-colored/colorless also gives them a slightly higher chance of being reprinted themselves in later products; whereas it's much harder to find a set/product that can justify the inclusion of Kaalia of the Vast both for flavor and mechanics (not that the new cards don't have their issues in this regard, but multicolor isn't one of them).
The W/B/R Angel/Demon/Dragon deck just seems awesome!
So what is the best site for input on this deck for building/modifying? MTGS?
Thanks
The Commander Decklist Database here on MTGS is a useful starting point if you want to see how players are building certain Commanders, and the Commander subforum in general is full of topics and resources that might help you in the building/tweaking process (top card threads, card discussions, Scoeri's numerous statistical analysis threads, and so on).
The high price of the 2012 decks can't be entirely explained by the value of singles. Looking at Heavenly Inferno, the only value cards I see are Kaalia ($25) and Tariel ($10), not at all amounting to teh $150 price. The decks are commanding (u see wut I did thur?) a high price as collector's items in the original packaging (my guess). If you want to build your own Kaalia deck, I'd recommend buying the single and then building out your own Rune-Scarred, Rakdoes 1.0, and so on as singles as well. The 3-color legends will hold their value because, like the poster above said, they're very unlikely to ever get reprinted ever again.
But, the same thing could be said about the 2013 and 2014 decks. By their command-zone rules, they'd be strictly impossible to reprint outside of Commander products. For a few of the cards like Goblin Welder also, it's unlikely they'd ever get reprinted in a Standard-legal set, or they'd screw with that format and possibly Modern, which WOTC wants to keep as midrange creature-beats for the foreseeable future.
For purposes of building your collection as well, the amount of pure gold in the 2014 products is much higher than historically. Take the Red deck. Anyone with it in their mind to build any EDH deck with Wurmcoil, Solemn and Sol Ring in it, which would be a huge number of decks in all colors, would just be considering the difference in market rate of singles 10 + 5 + 5 with the $30 MSRP, available at a department store. That's not even considering the sticker of Dualcaster Mage, and then not having to buy any of the other EDH staples in that deck. If you can find it for MSRP over at a WalMart in West Pensyltucky, I'd say it's a great buy. I paid dealer markup for mine, and I'm still happy about it.
The others are good value too, and I was able to find the Green and Blue one for MSRP over at the local department store.
As far as value, all of the commander products have historically been worth more than their MSRP so if you can find one for MSRP and have the funds for it you will never be losing value technically. The red and white ones are the most valuable so if you're looking to turn a profit go for them. I bought the red one and highly recommend it because the artifacts are usable in any EDH deck, plus if you ever grow weary of mono red then you can always pretty easily switch over to Esper colors to still take advantage of the artifact engines you have. It's also simply a blast of a deck to play, I have a lot of fun with it.
