I started with the want to build all the colors of the rainbow for EDH, so I began with boxes and building "shells" for each color combination as I got extra cards. With the release of precon decks each year this has gotten easier, so far using the shell system I've completed up to 27. However, I've switched to building some cubes which will slow down the process, but I never intended the journey to take only a few short years.

Life is a beautiful engineer, yet a brutal scientist.
To the best of my knowledge, this is an exhaustive list of the decks I have brewed and played, in rough chronological order. Unfortunately, I built about about a third of them IRL in one form or another. Only 2 have survived the test of time.
To me, this looks about normal for a person who's been playing for a while. I still don't get the idea of building a single deck and working on it for years.
From my perspective, it's weirder to physically build decks that often. I've theorized many decks, but I've never had more than one physical deck constructed at once, for a combination of budget and focus. I'd much rather constantly hone in on what makes a single deck good than make multiples. My history's something like:
...And I've been playing EDH since the middle of Shards block.
We started EDH about the same time then. I can appreciate honing one deck to perfection, as some of my endeavors (Child of Alara in particular) are really labors of love. Still, I prefer to have about 3 decks built at any given time, not only to match the power level of the playgroup, but just for regular ol' variety's sake.
Some of them I wish I hadn't built. Skullbriar was a huge flop. But I'm glad to have the ones I do now.
I've been playing for probably 6 years now (I wanna say Zendikarish?), and to my knowledge this is the list of decks I've built. I typically like to have 2-4 decks built at a time, mostly because I like to tune my decks and whenever a new set comes out I have trouble acquiring all of the cards I need, so I sell one of the decks to fund the other two, and start a new project from the ashes.
Only thirty decks... not as much as I thought. My playgroup holds onto decks for a REALLY long time (a couple of 6+ year old decks were finally retired, while another couple of 5+ year old decks still show up when the pilots are in town), so it feels like I have worse EDHD than I do.
I had around 60 decks before this summer. However I was lacking reserve list cards like dual lands, eureka, gaea's cradle and so on so I decided to take apart all my decks and sell off all my duplicate cards with the goal of upgrading to foils and filling in missing cards that were on the reserve list. I have all my cards in separate binders sleeved and ready to go and I make decks on the fly. I have 3 decks right now. A Sliver Queen Planeswalker superfriends deck, a Marchaesa deck, and a Ghave deck.
The number of decks I keep built has continually increased since I started; at this point I have 15 that rotate continually, with probably 60 or 70 built since I got into it. Sig is totally out of date.
For a long time I tried to stick to a tight cycle of 5 monocolor decks, but I decided that there were too many interesting multicolor options to play with. Go figure, WotC has gone and enabled that behavior again.
I definitely spend way more time building decks than actually playing them, though. The puzzle of fitting together an effective, synergistic machine with a functional curve is oftentimes a lot more satisfying than smashing that machine into my playgroup's drunken slugfests.
Color combinations I have yet to brew or build for are mono-W, mono-G, mono-U, dimir, boros, azorius, naya, bant, esper, jeskai, mardu, abzan, sultai, mono brown and pentacolor. So far I'm not crazy about my options for generals in these colors, although I am leaning toward Sun Quan, Lord of Wu for mono blue and narset is intriguing to me, although she seems pretty linear. I used to have a sun quan deck and it drew a lot of anger and hate online, but i think i'll have better luck with my in-person magic games.
I'd say 'compulsive deckbuilder' definitely describes me. I plan out a lot of decks that I never build, mainly because of budget. I hate putting together a deck and thinking this is really supposed to have Damnation in it. If a deck isn't performing well and it's missing key cards, I generally just take it apart (see the many decks I own 'on hiatus').

Hello, my name is Runnin, i've been playing EDH for 2-3 years now and i build EDH decks quite often.
Special case since i got them today, the new precons
I usually have 8 decks that i can throw into my bag for an EDH night.
These are kinda from the top of my head that i remember clearly...
EDIT: Damn, 36 decks that i've had and some i still have. Sweet...
While my signature lists a bunch, that is only until i got my hypercube set up, and i have more decks that i do not have in my sig that were spur of teh moment and way too much money, yet bought the cards and hated the deck (Like r/u chaos)
Regardless I enjoy building decks and figuring out which cards to cut, what to add, see if it works, editing, Its just so much fun. I actually had to start building decks in theory as i had run out of money to build physical versions of them.
So when I found out about EDH, I admit that I became a compulsive builder. To the point that I began running out of staple cards to put in the decks. But here's what I've made/making.
I confess, I am totally a sucker for creating/tuning/brainstorming deck ideas.
I am restricting myself to one of each color combination(mostly due to manabase-money-, and space issues), with the exception of building two 5-color decks (so many cards and themes you can only really use in those, after all). If (read: when) I get an new idea for a color combination, I either integrate the idea to the existing deck for that combination, or go over from scratch to a new direction. Especially with tri-colors, there are so many different directions you can take them that sometimes I feel the need to just completely revamp things. At the moment I am turning my Karador Kamigawa-legendary-spirit tribal to Anafenza-counters-and-indestructible-aggro because the former, while a quirky idea was just so utterly boring to play I noticed myself avoiding picking that deck.
I try to keep a rough balance of no two decks using the same ideas/cards if at all possible (some common cards needed in just about every deck, like mana/draw/removal excluded here). Doubly so with the self-challenge for my 27th deck, the second five-color: not using any nonland card I have in *any other deck of mine*.
I have, currently, 25 EDH decks. I have had at least twice as many over the years, as decks have changed colours/ideas/commanders quite a bit.
All of the current ones are in my sig below.

I build a new deck pretty much every day. However, I've only ever actually playeyed with 4 different decks. I just don't play very much, and most of my decks are dismantled in favor of new ones before they ever see play.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only deck-building addict. Most people in my playgroup think I'm crazy for how many decks I build and for not playing the same one twice in a night, but I just get bored doing the same thing over and over. I did convince a friend that we should each build a pauper commander deck, and of course, before I've even completed one, I have a second one in the works.
I need to try to get my 12 decks down to 4 that I really love, but I just can't stand seeing all those cards sitting in a binder or in a box not being used
What's worse is I picked up the precons yesterday and now I have even more deck ideas ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh why
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.

Hi. My name is Jamie and I also have a deckbuilding problem (phew... step 1 of the 12 step program completed).
I have 11 decks built right now but you can't really count 5 of them as they are the C14 decks that I purchased and will keep as they are. The reason for this is because I believe at my LGS and I know with my friends that we'll enjoy playing pre-con games with decks that are relatively well built and can remain competitive with one another and don't rely on shenanigans to win.
Regarding the Richard Garfield deck, it'll be an "un" deck and although the commander is blue, it will include all 5 colors because nothing about the deck will be legal!
I did think I had more than 15 decks, with 7 more on the way, though. All completed decks are still active and see minor changes as new sets come out. It's been a while since I updated my sig, too, lol
I have about seven decks currently built, but I've probably built close to 50 different commander decks, and around 25 non commander decks. if i had more money i would build decks, and then never use them. because i don't play enough to get a lot of games in, i never get the chance to use different decks.
the most decks I've had built at one time was 17. i needed four boxes to carry them, and that was when i realized that there was no reason to have so many decks built.
the main reason i build compulsively is because i don't play enough. my friends are filthy casuals, and they only want to play 1-2 games at a time.
my most expensive deck is my Vish Kal list because i refuse to take it apart, and i am always trying to find new, more expensive cards for it.
my current decks are in my sig, although wanderer was sold because it was at a really high value at my lgs, but my retired lists include Kemba, Ruhan, Nin, and Marchesa to name a few.
When I made the original post, I wasn't even thinking about non-commander decks. At one point I had over 50 decks (60-card) constructed at one time. Now that I play almost exclusively commander, most of those have been stripped apart. I've really only kept 6 (3 pauper and 3 budget) 60 card decks that rarely see play. Part of what attracted me to commander was the fact that each game can play differently - one copy each of 65 unique cards is quite a bit different from 4 copies each of 10 unique cards. Not that it's completely satisfied my need for variety, as you can see from the many decks I keep building.
I've built:
Crovax, Ascendant Hero - retired
Ghost Counsel of Orzhova - retired
Kaervek the Merciless - retired
Tariel, Reckoner of Souls - retired
Ghave, Guru of Spores
Drana, Kalasria Bloodchief
