I made a SCD about Baton of Morale recently and one thing I heard was that blocking with even a single creature with banding can completely disable trample.
So that got me thinking, what are some relatively unknown uses of cards that often lead to people either asking for a judge or at least doing a double take?

One that I often run into is burn spell vs Circle of Protection: Red when I have a planeswalker on the board.

If two or more replacement and/or prevention effects are attempting to modify the way an event affects an object or player, the affected object’s controller (or its owner if it has no controller) or the affected player chooses one to apply, following the steps listed below. If two or more players have to make these choices at the same time, choices are made in APNAP order (see rule 101.4).
Basically, redirecting the damage to a planeswalker and preventing damage to you are both replacement effects. The affected player gets to choose which one happens.
Reconnaissance can be used to give your guys psuedo-Vigilance.
They actually errata-patched that one a set or two ago. The oracle text now specifies it can only be activated before combat damage, to be equivalent with how that card worked when it was first printed.

Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!

They then actually un-errata-patched it this most recent set.

I always like to use Wargate to Control Magic a hexproofed/heavily protected creature. This even prevents reactive stuff like Vanishing, unless your opponent is psychic and knows what you're up to.
Phyrexian Tower allows you to respond to Split Second spells if you have death triggers.
Using Possibility Storm together with Curse of Exhaustion to lock players out of their decks. Took me a while to explain that to my local playgroup. There are now audible groans everytime I bring that out
What exactly is meant by this? That Rain of Gore just does not trigger on lifelink? Or that it does trigger, and the effects negate each other somehow? Isn't Rain of Gore a replacement affect that would replace the lifelink gain?
Their creature, in response to an aura, pump, etc. (even on their one large creature in response to a Prime Speaker Zegana cast , and a Conjurer's Closet activation in one game) - check!
My creature, in response to a kill/copy/steal - check!
Followed by enchantment hate - check!
On your blocker to save it from combat post blocks - check!
etc. etc.
I've had people so confused with this one card because they can't see what it can do...

"This does not apply to life gain caused by combat damage from a creature with lifelink."
It's because the creature dealing the damage causes its controller to gain life, not a spell or ability. It only works with Rain of Gore because of its weird wording. Erebos, God of The Dead and Sulfuric Vortex and stuff still prevent lifelink from working.

I guess my confusion came from thinking of the keyword Lifelink as an ability. Thanks.
Lifelink is an ability, but the way it works is by modifying the damage event. It's the turn-based-action of combat damage being dealt that is causing the lifegain, and since combat damage is neither a spell nor an ability, Rain of Gore doesn't apply.
I don't get it. Can you please explain? Unless I'm missing something, this seems straightforward from a rules perspective.
The player who you stole the ooze from gets to untap their lands which is not what you would think it does on first glance at least that's what I thought happened during the match it was kind of hard to tell exactly what happened but all I know is that Shaun Mclaren had to call over a judge.

Maze of Ith can be used in conjunction with Argothian Elder or Krosan Restorer to generate infinite mana (during combat only)

Ixidron also makes people a bit nutty, especially when it comes to knowing which cards are which.
Cold Storage started a flurry of phone lookups when I started tucking stolen creatures under it.
Grim Feast is errataed to be all opponents for some reason, which prompted someone to drop in one game.
And everything that Soul Sculptor does.
