My favorite Green creature is Easily Spike Weaver I truly do love that guy, so i thought of perhaps running a deck using the spikes. Sadly there is only 11, one being black which kills them all when he hits the field. And I have made tribal with less before (Patron of the Moon, Moonfolk I did not run all the moonfolk... maybe it was not rally tribal whatever)
I mean green has work around in this matter (Chameleon Colossus) For more spikes, but that does not solve the issue. I Run a Kraj Deck, so i don;t want to just repeat that. (As if i build Kraj again, I'm going Mutant Tribal before i go spike tribal.
So my question is, What kind of abusing cards can I use with Spikes? Proliferate is obvious and I know Kraj is available to me, But if he is I rather 1/99 over him being the general. I prefer not to use Spike Cannibal as all the work i may have used to pump my spikes up will be for nothing.
The Mimeoplasm might be a good general, since he does +1/+1 counter-y things, gives you access to black (so you could use the cannibal if you really felt like it, plus you get a lot of recursion for your other Spikes), and can copy dead Spikes.
Also, from the title I thought this thread was going to be about playing with super-competitive players.

Spikes are awesome, I was thinking about including some in my Vorel deck, but they lost out due to Hydras; Hydras are more smashy smashy, where as Spikes are more combo, as everyone pointed out.
What are you trying to do with the Spikes? Combo or turn them sideways?

both i guess...
I would definitely go Jenara, Asura of War then; access to all the Spikes, the Archangel, Vorel, Sage of Hours, not to mention counterspells and ramp. It also leaves you open Jenara as a spare win condition through Commander Damage.
And you'll have the element of surprise, as NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPIKE INQUISITION!

I run lots of Spikes in Ghave for counter shenanigans. Of course there's the obvious Archangel of Thune/Spike Feeder combo. Spike Cannibal in particularly is fun in that color combo, especially if there are other +1/+1 counter focused decks in your meta. (It also makes stuff like Aku Djinn and Tempt With Glory stupid if your opponents aren't wise to the trick. And he conveniently costs 3, perfectly Aluren-able.) Spike Breeder, similar to Ghave himself, has the ability to convert counters into tokens. Spike Rogue lets you pass around counters directly, good for refueling Weavers and Feeders. And finally, there will always be a special place in my heart for Spike Soldier. I just love that little guy.

Well in Vorel spikes can sort of do both when they get large enough. I've had a great experience with them in that deck. Breeder, Feeder, and Weaver are my favorites.
Because of this thread my bother and I just brainstormed a Rafiq deck (he's been looking to rebuild his for awhile) based largely off the Archangel, Feeder, Sage combo. It's not a spike tribal deck though.
It looks really awesome but it's a little dependent on either that combo or Rafiq voltron. I'm going to have to tinker with it some more. I may have to find room for Tooth and Nail, Avenger, Craterhoof. Or Deadeye/Chron to pair with Venser.
The one nice thing about the Archangel, Feeder, Sage combo is that if all three hit the board it goes off unless they have split second removal that hits creatures. You can just activate the Feeder on top of regular removal for infinite counters on Sage while holding priority then activate Sage for infinite turns.
My favorites would be Feeder, Tiller, Weaver. Tiller has some hilarious tricks against decks that rely on key lands to save them like Maze of Ith or Homeward Path or Cavern of Souls. "Yes, yes. Tell me again about how you were just about to wrath the board. What? Wrathing the board isn't fair for you anymore?"
I must be the only one that actually thought of the Spike tribe when I saw the name. Player archetypes totally slipped my mind. That said, I was going to build a Vorel of the Hull Clade and am definitely considering playing a couple of these guys.

I felt kind of bad. Never heard of any barring the term Timmy (Which i believe are player who enjoying using fatties.)

Though it is understandable, as even I was wondering if this at first was a thread about Spikes, the player profile variety. Not the creature type variety.
Considering their 0/0 base stats, I'd recommend giving Hua Tuo, Honored Physician a try along side them, so that you've got a way to recur them. If you add in Pemmin's Aura he gets a lot better and can then protect himself too.
Just curious: what does their being 0/0 have to do with Hua Tuo?
In 1v1 you can put something on Spike Weaver to ensure it gets at least one +1/+1 counter every turn. Doubling Season is also nice.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Or you could go Bant with Jenara, Aura of War, Angus MacKenzie or Derevi. Then you abuse Sage and Archangel of Thune.
Spike Feeder + Sage of Hours + Archangel of Thune = Infinite life. Infinite turns and infinite counters on your creatures (other then Feeder).
