As some of you may or may not have read, theres been an outcry by some in our community to ban sol ring. And since some other members feels that this discussion is overshadowing other potentially interesting card discussions, I figured it'd be a good idea to shift the discussion here, purely for our favourite/hated sol ring.
And if possible, it'd be great if we can keep this civil.
I've played Magic since the end of UNL and I've gotten back in the game specifically for EDH for about 5 years now. I have about 3 regular shops with many different groups that I play at weekly.
Whether those qualifications matter or not, I feel like Sol Ring and Mana Crypt are fine for the format - and they truly deserve a format to really shine.
I feel like what the format needs are more easy ways to interact by removing and hating those cards out. Red needs more Mox Monkey effects. White needs more Stony Silence abilities. One of the problems is printing cards that are EDH legal that don't wind up skewing the Legacy metagame. A cheap universal effect that could just gain control of a 0 or 1 cost artifact (I'm thinking another artifact or a land) would at least make it a lot more fun to see crypts and rings travelling around the table.
Another big factor is printing value cards that punish an opponent but not yourself. Stony Silence would probably be a lot more popular if it didn't turn your mana rocks off also. The EDH crowd has long been clamoring for more Torpor Orb Effects - and I don't think it's any coincidence that we just got one.
So first, lets call for them to give us better/more attractive tools to fight those cards - and see how that works.
I agree with your thinking Burntgerbil, but how many of those complaining actually run Stony Silence? I was actually thinking of playable/good T1 answers to Sol Ring and the list grew really fast. I'm not talking about jank, I'm talking about things like Vandalblast, Nature's Claim, Mental Misstep etc.
I don't really enjoy games where Sol Ring and Mana Crypt are played on turn 1, and I support their banning, but I feel like it's unlikely that the RC will follow through with it any time in the foreseeable future.
I appreciate what you are trying to do, but we restrict ALL ban list discussion to that thread for a reason, namely to keep threads like this from constantly popping up.

Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom
Okay.
On topic, this should be in the other topic.

This is laughable. Sol Ring is Power 9 good.
