Just curious what yall thought was a good length for a game of EDH. I prefer a game less than 90 minutes, games longer than that are a bit draining for me. You guys?

The last game of EDH I played happened to be between eight people and lasted four hours. It was pretty draining by my standards, but I placed third and had a great time nonetheless. Still, I think two hours might be my limit for an average game of EDH. I just don't mind if games run on a bit long as long as its because of fun and/or hilarious shenanigans.

I really dislike long lasting games, and prefer to establish complete control in under 30 minutes. Then again, I mostly play 1v1so there's that.


When playing multiplayer, while I still prefer shorter games, I don't mind a lengthy game now and then as long as the game is moving forward in one way shape or form. Battlecruiser durdley matches just aren't my style.

~1hr is good. I don't mind longer games, but I find that games that long tend to be so because of stuff like Winter Orb or Geddon, i.e. no one doing anything.

Hmmmm good question. In a tourney I like 20-30 minutes per game. In a 4-player pod an hour is just perfect. Closing on two hours I'll start getting antsy and want to start a new game.

why is there a <90 minute option? o_O

I think 60-90 is ideal. I've had fun games that were really long. I've also had games that sucked and were really long. Most games that were 60-90 were pretty good. No one pulled off a lucky early victory, and it didn't drag on forever. 30-60 sometimes feels a little short, you don't get all the political nuance of a long game filled with old alliances and bitter rivalries. After a while, a good game of EDH gets very Game of Thrones-y.

When it gets to the three hour mark I start to get woozy. Up until that, the longer the better assuming that everyone is taking up roughly the same amount of time on the clock.

As long as it takes.
I don't mind 15-min games and I don't mind 3-hour games. As long as there's a clash of decks and people are doing their best I'm definitely having a good time.

20-30 mins

I play with a very competitive group so its nice to get 4-8 games in on one sitting.

I prefer anything from thirty minutes to an hour and a half. Of course, a lot of the games in my group are 6 player, so that doesn't always happen when at least four of those people are usually playing control decks.

I don't mind super long games, I just don't want them to happen every single game. The same can be said for super short games.

As long as it needs to be.

That said, I do prefer if a game doesn't end in less time than it takes to shuffle up, nor do I like games that drag on to the point that most people have lost interest and spend the entire time BSing around instead of focusing on the game.

i like under <90. By that time its not too draining but everyone has had the opportunity to do something awesome/ hilarious.

Anywhere from 5 to 60 minutes. There have also been 3 hour monsters but that's more about durdle planets aligning than anything else.

Our playgroup only gets together once a week or so, and we usually like to play another game as well. A commander game that lasts an hour or so is usually pretty satisfying for our group of 5-6.

about an hour is fine. You can get some nice plays and as lomg as you don't have a speed bump *looks at a few people in particular who spends ten minutes on their turn* You all get a nice satisfying game with many plays.

Once i did a 7 man game, it was 4 hours in, i did almost nothing, until the norin player cast warp world, giving me Basalt Monolith, Rings of Brighthearth, Fireball and a few lands. I almost lost but the guy passed turn and lo andbehold, my turn to win. No one had an answer anymore.

Recently had a 3 player free for all game that lasted about 3 hours. It was super fun because we were all still in till the very end. I lost about 2 turns before game ended, But the Biggest Middle Finger of the match is one Player Milled himself and killed the last guy at the same time. So a HUGE 3 hr game ended in a draw. Overall though if players are still in the game its always going to be fun, but i like 60-90 min games, granted if someone loses early I don't like them waiting too long for the next game (30-45 min wait time at the max)so i can see why shorter games are better too.

I voted <90min, because a lot depends on the number of players. 1v1, 30 min is about right. 3-player, 60 min is about right. 4+ players, 90min is not out of the question, but after that it becomes hard to stay engaged.

Games were starting to regularly go for 2-3 hours or more in my playgroup because people tend to play a ton of answers and often don't advance their own plan unless they can get immediate value through ETB effects and such. Recently I've been trying to build more proactive decks to get things going a bit more, and I think it has reduced the overall length of games by a little bit, but I would still like to get things going a little faster sometimes. I usually prefer to play 3 one-hour games, rather than 1 three-hour game.

Anywhere from forty minutes to eight hours works for me - so long as the game stays engaging and relatively even until the end.

The only thing I dislike about long games is when an indecisive person plays control and takes fifteen minute turns.

30-45 minutes for me. I like to play multiple games and decks in a session, and I get bored with very long games.

My buddies and I have had some pretty long games, but we typically average around an hour and a half. Usually, someone is carving out a corner of the board or setting up a combo at that point.

The games I've had the most fun in were very long, I've played some 8-mans that lasted roughly 4 hours. The usual length of a game for us though was 1-2 hours. The longer a game (in my experience) the more fun it is. I've played games that lasted ~30 minutes, some that were 90 and less and honestly, those quick games (usually ending in an infinite combo or something similar) weren't fun at all, not for me, nor the others in our pod...

So I prefer long games, interacting with people more, setting up board states, and just seeing what other people's decks are capable of

The faster the better because that allows more games of EDH, but getting quickly killed off by an infinite combo, or someone getting too fast of a head start and then staxing/armageddon'ing the board are not particularly fulfilling.

I prefer about an hour long play, which is why I always have a finishing move that can end the game fast when I get board if unanswered.
