so I have been playing one of my storm decks for a long time as U/B but i decided the mana base was incredibly safe and since i literally never cast the general I would just splash the other 3 colors because i can

what is the least cards you would splash a color for i play 2 white spells 3 red and 5 green spells 12 black and a whopping 30 blue spells with 17 colorless and 30 lands in this version and despite the low land count and splashing 3 colors for 10 cards it seems worth it

I haven't gone below 10. Less than that and I usually just end up cutting the color.

I always pick the general first and build around it heavily, so I don't have the option of cutting a color.

For reference, my favorite 5-color deck only had 1-2 red spells and 3-4 white spells, iirc. BUG aplenty, though.

I have a B/W lifegain/drain style deck that picked up Oloro as the general recently. Only added 3 blue cards to the 99 so far, as I didn't really want to change the primary build.

This is my general rule for many different things, not just splashing a color.

I have an Oona deck that is mono-B/artifact except for like 6 or so cards.

My derevi deck has only only 9 cards that can't be cast without green. (10 with the general)

Add to that cards like Birthing Pod,Beck/call and selesyna guildmage.
Plus I have a bunch of green utility lands and cards with green activated abilities like Gavony township.

Deveri is just so much more powerful than... Kangee that its worth the extra colour. Also acess to prophet of kruprix and birthing pod are well worth the occiansionally worse mana base.

Most of my green cards are removal.

Yea if I'm in 2 color I feel like not splashing a 3rd seems silly with how safe 3 color mana is but there are times splashing for all 5 seems questionable.

I have a Hokori/artifact deck that only runs 6 or 7 white spells.

I've splashed B just for Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, and Dismember in the past. I've also splashed R just for just Rack and Ruin and Chaos Warp.

Currently in my Zur list the only white cards I use are Swords to Plowshares, Enlightened Tutor and Rest in Peace (and the general of course).

I agree with Moxnix, the mana base is so good I see no reason to run pure UB isntead of splashing for a few powerful cards like Nature's Claim or Wheel of Fortune.

I run most of my decks as two colours, with a splash of 4-8 support cards.

Grixis: Goblin Welder, Wheel, Sarkhan the Mad, Squee, Dreadbore, Terminate, and Jokulhaups.

Esper: Sun Titan, Swords, Path, Unexpectedly Absent, Armageddon, Cataclysm, Aura of Silence, Vindicate, and Enlightened Tutor

I think my Zedruu deck splashes Wild Research, Gamble and Wheel of Fortune as the only red cards. I'd be fine just splashing for Wild Research if necessary.

One. Namely, Corpsejack Menace in my Vorosh deck. I eventually added in more black cards for removal, but it's still essentially a UG deck with only five black cards (not including Vorosh himself).

I will always go at least 3 colors, I feel that it's foolish not to splash for that third color. It uses a balanced mana base and is more effective, better generals, more card access, etc.

To the topic, any deck that runs red is usually a splash for me. Usually 5 or so red spells.

UGx decks can usually splash for the third color minimally. I've seen a pretty good Riku deck splash for Riku, Kiki, and Zealous conscripts.
