MTG Salvation

So I picked up the power hungry pre-con and I'm planning on building a deck using the Shattergang Brothers as the commander, but I'm looking for suggestions on what the first 10-15 cards I should add in. I'm still pretty new to EDH and magic as a whole, and so far the only decks that I've played have been heavy on aggro, which I really enjoy, but I'm looking for something a little different.

In my current meta I have to deal with a lot of control, and so far my most successful deck is a Krenko, mob boss deck, which if I had a good draw would be too fast for the control decks to shut down. However I'm looking into turning this new deck in to a jund control deck, where I can really stall out the table, until I can get my fatties out.

Now since I am still fairly new to Magic I only have a small collection of cards, and I'll have to buy all of the additions, so please keep that in mind, I'd say that my price point currently would be under $15 for any single card.

Shattergang is one of the best stax generals so you might want to look into that. There is a stax primer on the first page of this forum. If you don't know stax is a resource denial type of control. Most of the cards for it are below the $20 range as well.

As for your next purchase I would say pick up a grave pact, a reassembling skeleton, a bloodghast, a skullclamp, a rancor, and an It that betrays. Those plus the pre-con should get you off to a good start. Later your going to want more expensive cards like urborg, tomb of yawgmoth, stranglehold, and crucible of worlds.

Awesome thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out the stax primer, for those cards that you suggested, I already have a reassembling skeleton, a bloodghast, a skullclamp, a rancor. It that betrays sounds like it would be a lot of fun with the Shattergang Brothers, that's defiantly on the short list for this deck.

I know Hammer of Purphoros interacts well with the brothers. The token is an enchantment, artifact, and creature; allowing you to activate any one of your generals abilities. Decimate is a nice 4 for 1, the limitation makes it a pain, but typically you shouldn't have a tough time casting it.

Ichor Wellspring, Sengir Autocrat, and Sarkhan Vol seem good. There's a slime from one of the core sets (M12 iirc) that splits in two when it dies, and so do the tokens. Ability copiers like Rings of Brighthearth net you twice the value for your sacrifices and RoB is half of an infinite mana combo. You might include Mortal Combat to steal grindy or stalled out games. Really any graveyard shenanigans make sense. Kamahl, Fist of Krosa can animate opponents' lands, causing the brothers' black ability to affect them. Artifact/man lands and Life From the Loam maybe?

I would say Crucible of Worlds (even though its pricey), and Life from the loam along with Cards like Strip mine to start picking apart opponents lands. Eternal witness with phyrexian reclamation can do some work too.

You may also want to start on your ramp with Cultivate, kodama's reach, harrow, skyshroud claim or creatures like farhaven elf and sakura-tribe elder. Dawntreader Elk is a new favorite of mine as you can attach a skullclamp to it then sac it to its ability getting you 1 basic land in play and 2 cards. This gets better with Grave pact in play. Mycosynth Wellspring makes sure you hit land drops

I would suggest Spine of Ish Sah. Make the opponents sac their artifacts and break a permanent after and its cheap. Also the famous Squee, Goblin Nabob is also a must

Maybe cards like Sheoldred, Whispering One or Coffin Queen to allow you to play with cards from graveyards so that you can sacrifice them multiple times.

My build is similar to Phils - low mana curve, lotsa token generation - but I don't run any stax effects (I find that in our 6+ player games, that all things being equal, everyone targets the stax player first). Instead I run more CMC < 5 utility cards and a handful of a few fun (but entirely unnecessary)things (Grim Tutor, Eureka, Candelabra, Diamond Valley).

Awesome, thanks for all of the suggestions everyone, I've put together mt first attempt with the Shattergang Brothers, and I'm really looking forward to going out tomorrow night and getting some play time in with it.

A few more things I've thought of: Sprouting Thrinax, Necrogenesis, Algae Gharial, and Mortician Beetle.

Since you have Krenko as your general, why not merge them and do Shattergang Goblin Tribal?

Here is the deck so far, I've only been able to play maybe 4-5 games with it so far. To be honest, it was bad, really think that I need to lower my cmc, to speed things up. Please feel free to make suggestions, but keep the budget in mind.

Ramp such as nature's lore and farseek can help you by replacing some of the higher cmc ramps spells. Aslo rakdos signet and fellwar stone. fallen ideal allows you to pull a voltron strike out of no where and also can be saced and brought back.

Birthing Pod maybe? I think that generally, this card is a solid addition in any green-based creature deck. It's pretty versatile and turns your early drops into better creatures for the late game. It also gives you access to an infinite combo in the form of Kiki, Murderous Redcap and Zealous Conscripts which can go off as early as turn 3 or 4 I think given the right acceleration.

Activate Pod, sacrifice Murderous Redcap - search for Zealous Conscript - target your own Pod to untap it.
Persist triggers bringing back Redcap.
Activate Pod again, sacrifice Redcap search for Kiki.
