Hey, I really wanna build a deck based around Prophet of Kruphix because it's currently my favorite card in the format, in my two favorite colors. Ideally, my commander would be a legendary Simic version of Primordial Sage, and I have big hopes for Kruphix, God of Horizons, but so far that card doesn't exist. I know that the Prophet is great in pretty much every U/G/x deck, but I really want to make it a focus of the deck.
Additionally, cards like Riftsweeper are probably a must. The commanders I've considered are Damia, Zegana, Derevi, Momir Vig, Animar, Riku... But I don't know which one would best fit the bill, or another one?
Goes well in myVorel of the Hull Clade deck. Basically any commander with a tap activated ability for extra value. Good point in the Damnation. Prophet encourages overextending.
More seriously its just an amazing card, preferably you would want a fairly high amount of creatures and mana sinks. But you don't need much of an excuse to run it. Its one of those cards that if you play it.. suddenly you are either target number one or everyone else at the table clones it.
I run it in Deveri... its one of my high priority tutor targets... and my deck is mostly just Birds, not many tap abilities and no lock down... just flashing in birds and dumping mana into gavony township is enough. Also Prophet + Azami = victory.
I run said card in my Momir Vig, centered around spamming creatures (instant speed if possible) and every Future Sight variant under the sun. Given enough turns with no boardwipe (hey, you're running blue, might as well put those counterspells to use), it gets from cute to degenerate fairly quickly. Prophet just makes it happen a lot faster...

I think Prophet of Kruphix is best with Animar, Soul of Elements. It's already a very creature heavy deck and what is better than casting creatures for only a single coloured mana (or for free)? Giving them all flash and letting you cast them in every other player's turn!

I had this experience with Animar as well. I cast Animar turn 2, prophet turn 3, and then on everyone else's turn it was creature-> creature-> creature-> Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, swinging turn 4. I would also recommend Derevi, Empyrial Tactician as you mentioned. Prophet of Kruphix is such a powerhouse.
Prophet of Kruphix is absolutely ridiculous in my Prime Speaker Zegana counters deck. Every time I play her, I am guaranteed to win the game. She's amazing if I have counter magic to protect her after she comes out. If nobody tries to kill her at end of each player's turn, I can basically flash in a huge threat at the end of turn for free. Best thing is if you already have permanents that add to Prophet's value like Fauna Shaman and Primeval Bounty.
One time in a 4 player EDH game, I played Prophet. Next turn my opponent did nothing and I flashed in a Kalonian Hydra. My next opponent tried to wipe the board with a Planar Cleansing and I countered it with Draining Whelk. The last opponent did nothing and I flashed in my commander drawing me a refreshed hand full of gas for my next turn and proceeded to win with a monstrous Kalonian Hydra and friends.
I think that if you want to pick a commander that takes advantage of the the prophet, I think that picking one who can capitalize on creature casting (or creature ETB) is best. With that in mind off of the top of my head I can think of momir vig, simic visionary, animar, soul of elements, and riku of two reflections, even roon of the hidden realm would fit nicely. I know alot of people have suggested derevi, empyrial tacticianas a good one to use. I under stand that derevi is powerful, but if you're looking for a general that itself fits well with prophet i don't really see it. In terms of decks and colors to run, pretty much any of the wedge colors or simic would work pretty well I think, so its more about the strategy you want.
Basically: Any Commander with UG in its casting cost is the best deck for Prophet of Kruphix. That card is nuts and direct synergy doesn't even have to exist in order for it to be potent.
I think Bant Blink would be a good shell in which to utilize the Prophet, of course, as triggering ETBs with scary effects is awesome at instant speed. Fiend Hunter practically becomes Unmake, Acidic Slime and various others become incredibly scary during combat and when opponents think they can stack abilities safely, Gilded Drake goes two levels up on the crazy scale when it can be cast during combat, Bane of Progress at instant speed is just ridiculous, instant speed Duplicant gives everyone but you a bad time, Reveillark/Karmic Guide/Body Double provide exceptional recovery when someone puts a Wrath on the stack or immediately after a Wrath, and more.
Would this best utilize the Prophet? I dunno. When I think of things I want at instant speed, the capacity to screw with my opponent's plans as much as possible is what comes immediately to the front of my mind, and Bant Blink seems to be a decent shell in which to do that. Of course, you may not even need the white (it's for things like Mistmeadow Witch, Reveillark/Karmic Guide, Sun Titan, etc.) and could just run UG good stuffs with plenty of ETB triggers. But, anyway, my opinion on the matter is that taking advantage of casting impact-producing creatures during other people's turns, during other player's combat steps is a great way to utilize the card hence the suggestion of blink or goodstuffs. A couple weeks ago I had a Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Seedborn Muse out (my Prophet got exiled and I actually Tooth and Nailed for those two) and flipped an entire game around because the player with lethal targeted me in combat, and flashing in Gilded Drake and Bane of Progress saved my ass pretty well.
'Course, you could just shove Prophet of Kruphix into about anything and she'd do work, so I wouldn't think too hard about it.
Soooo, Prophet of Kruphix is, dare I say, GODLY in a Kruphix deck. Plus, it's a flavor win. Prophet + Kruphix himself + X-costing Hydras = massive aggro.
How did Damia, Sage of Stone go without mention? Granted I only play 2HG and 1v1 but I have had so many games won with a little bit of ramp, prophet and damia.
Spend the first two or three turns ramping as hard as you can, creature ramp, exploration and burgeoning work well here
Tutor/filter for prophet with any spare mana you can muster and when you have 7 mana on board to drop prophet and protect do so (more if you need to protect damia as well). Since prophet lets you cast creatures like they have flash you can drop damia at end of their turn and generally refill 3 or 4 cards at the beginning of yours.
I haven't lost a game yet when I had access to both of these cards even if I lost one of them a turn or two later.
How about any deck that plays the usual boring g/u good stuff cards?
I'm sorry, but the card is easy mode button mash magic %100.
Load your deck with draw, the usual ETB value, and counters and you can have a turn during every other players turn, which isn't super annoying at all.

Honestly, Prophet of Kruphix is pretty much an auto-inclusion in any deck that runs blue and green at this point. It's too good to not play if you have a copy.
Yep it johns a long list if edh staples while not on demonic tutor sol ring auto include status since I could see someone not running counters or creatures in u/g ... Well if it's 5 colors lol maybe mana drain auto include status or wheel of fortune. Maybe not quite sense a spell slinging creature light deck might prefer muse for the chane of driving into it off ring crypt vault monolith etc. either way yes derevi animar are probly best the only deck I use it in is stasis orb sliver queen but I run muse too thus is slightly better maybe. That said I don't run it In Damia anymore mainly because when you play storm Gitaxin probe seems strictly better
My gut says Damia would be the most powerful commander to pair with Prophet, and black adds access to some fantastic tutoring options. Kruphix is the most flavorful and thematic for obvious reasons.
I found Prophet of Kruphix is great with:
- Lockdown cards (ex: Winter Orb => Derevi)
- Mana sinks (ex: Deadeye Navigator)
- Solid draw engines (ex: Rhystic Study, Consecrated Sphinx)
The deck needs to be able to do two things:
- Be able to find her consistently (ex: Momir Vig)
- Protect her (ex: Mystic Snake + Deadeye Navigator, Zameck Guildmage + Glen Elendra Archmage)
Additionally, cards like Riftsweeper are probably a must. The commanders I've considered are Damia, Zegana, Derevi, Momir Vig, Animar, Riku... But I don't know which one would best fit the bill, or another one?
Any suggestions and/or opinion? Thanks!
