Hello;
I'v been playing MTG for a while and as a result i have built many decks. I play with my family who i provide the decks for most of the time. Lately at the club at the university i attend i have been lending my decks to people. The last game I played i had 5 of my decks being played in a 6 player game. Which was quite fun as most of my decks are balanced against each other.
I wonder if i'm not alone in often providing most of the decks for playing. Let me hear your stories.
I have many decks. People always ask if they can play one of mine. Sometimes, I don't want to, but then they wouldn't play. I feel I should just pack 99 random cards under a legend just so I don't already know how the match would play out.
I have my fully painted deck that I lend to people if they need one, but I think my EDH Cube is the main way I put my cards in peoples' hands. I like playing against variety though so I can't see myself making decks for others to use beyond that.
I use to lend my goblin deck to one of our players. He enjoyed R/B and I enjoyed having him play with us. He got so use to the deck that he knew his combos, what cards to look for, answers, He knew the deck better than I did. I mean I culd still play it but he was just more use to it.
I tend to dismantle and build decks a lot, but teh goblin deck holds memories along with arcum. Kraj and Azami will also remain forever. I want to build ghave, and I want to build reaper king again.
I use to have 12 decks so yea i lent them out a lot. but currently my group, i have 4, my buddy has 4, and our third main guy has 3. We are fairly balanced in power levels. And that is why we have trouble letting new people join, its just a huge increase in power form the new guys with competitive decks.
My playgroups are generous with deck switches and loans. One of my friends likes it when I use his Damia, Sage of Stone deck because I pilot it in really bizarre ways that still manage to win. Friends like piloting my Prossh, Skyraider of Kher deck because they find it to be an enjoyable take on dragon tribal. Then there was that game where everyone was using each other's decks. That was something.
We like to to throw our decks at each other between rounds just to change it up. It's fun to be able to play tuned decks of different archetypes and with different cards (I only have enough good stuff to make about three three-colored decks at any one time, assuming I have the niche cards for the deck I want to build). I probably only play my own deck twice in one night.
All the damn time. I've got the most decks in our playgroup, so oftentimes people want to use something different and grab one of my decks. It's a great way to keep improving multiple decks without wearing yourself completely out testing every one of your edh decks multiple times.

Sometimes people forget to bring thier decks... because spontanous EDH games are a thing.
Unfortunately 1 of my friends to refuses to play my EDH decks, I am more Johny and he is more timmy and finds my grindy all of the vaule EDH decks just wrong for him.
I have a problem if I loan all my decks out in that I have a control deck that is basically built to screw over my own decks. Its stoney silence rest in peace against glissa and has just a stack of wraiths against deveri and some fog effects. so it gets tricky to play (when I am loaning) or loaning that one out and shooting myself in the foot.

I have been aiming to build a cube one of these days for that reason. Its easier than building a deck every few months to keep things interesting.

Yeah that is one thing that i like about loaning is that i can playtest a bunch all at the same time. Although if its an old deck its more like i know how this works and how to beat it and the guy borrowing it doesn't know how to play it, its a bit uneven.
Everybody in my core playgroup has at least 5+ decks. We continually swap our decks and make sure not to have overlapping generals. Basically whenever we want to play a game we have a database of decks to chose from.
That being said, I rarely loan decks to strangers.

Basically, the game I like is deck building. Actually playing EDH is just a way of scorekeeping. If I can play a game involving three of my decks, that's three times as much fun, as far as I'm concerned.
I have quite a few decks, but I usually only lend out my Linvala angel-tribal (w/equipment and friends!) deck. It's just a very solid deck that pretty much anyone can play.
My typical Playgroup all has various decks, but if someone is trying out a deck for the first time only to find its power level is lacking, they'll usually end up borrowing Linvala.
I don't dislike lending out other decks, of course, but I built each one of them to my tastes and it hurts when I see someone using it... improperly >_> Also, it's no fun to go against my own decks because I know what's in them, and I know how to hamstring them with whatever other deck I choose to play. I can work proactively to hurt my decks by exploiting any weaknesses in them. That's not really my idea of Magic.
I've probably loaned out all of my EDH decks at least once, so counting the ones I've taken apart, at least twenty. If you factor in 60-card decks, you could easily double that number. I've always been my group's deck-builder, and I've loaned out decks to strangers at LGSs too. I prefer to play against decks that I haven't built, though. I like to see new commanders and new strategies and get a feel for facing them - I know how my decks perform.
I don't loan out my more expensive decks, as I'd really rather not have to spend an hour or so worrying about losing a Gaea's Cradle or something similar. Expensive cards have gone "missing" before at my LGS. The cheaper decks I've lent out a few times though and most of them are still pretty good, power level wise.
I have a sharum deck that I never play that I just bring to loan out not expensive no foils no mana crypt or mana drain type $$ cards but still very good .
I do this on a regular basis, not so much because my regular group lacks decks, but because the majority of them only have one EDH deck to my too many EDH decks, and that one bores them sometimes. In fact, people tend to request specific decks to play because they enjoy them so.
I have at least one deck (Arcanis the Omnipotent) that crushes tables EXCEPT when I play it. So when it gets loaned out...
So I voted 4 or more.
Cheers!

If in the area, check out Gamers N Geeks and Mini War Games in Mobile, Alabama and Underhill's Games in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
some people are scuzzy and i dont want them handling my cards. and some people are light headed and shuffle cards upside down etc and dont pay attention . i loan my decks to most people though
whats more is when someone is winning with my deck i feel like part of the winning credit goes to me lol so i dont feel that bad when i lose to my own deck,
As someone who tries actively to promote & grow my LGS playgroup I have no problem lending out decks if I am playing in the same pod. If someone new comes into the store on Commander night and asks to give Commander a try, I try to make my cards available.
I have a B/R Tribal Vampires Deck with Olivia Voldaren at the helm that plays very straight forward that is usually my first choice. It's simple. but still very powerful and is a great way to introduce new players to the format.
I lend decks out to people I trust not to manhandle them. Any time I let someone I don't know very well play with one of my decks, EDH or not, they mash shuffle (which I don't mind) from the TOP of the sleeve (which I do). Nobody in the entire world shuffles their own deck that way, why is it ok to do it with someone else's?
I do have an EDH deck I built with leftovers to straight up give to a new player who is curious though.
I got 3 decks. Where i play most people got 1 deck each, so it's almost always me that have a deck to lend out.
I will lend out my Oloro deck and Nekusar deck, but my Karn deck is my baby, so it isn't often people get to play it.
But i do let them try it once in a while to get a feel of how a colorless deck works.
I've been trying to promote EDH alot in our store, we went from 5 people, down to 2 (me and a friend),
aaaaand it feels like it's mostly me that persuades people to get into the format, but now we're about 15 people!:D.
It's great that our scene is growing! i just wish the Mayael swarm could stop, we got about 5 Mayael decks lol.
I always start to count my decks AFTER i've left the store to see if any cards are missing >_>, and that's very stupid lol.
Still i always try to embrace the beginners to the format:D! Magic and EDH is fun!
Usually I won't loan my decks out to just anyone, but if one of the regulars of EDH night either doesn't have a deck or wants to try one of mine, I'll let them. I currently have 7 decks so there's plenty of variety for people to choose from. The most I've ever loaned out at a single time was 3, and they comprised all of my opponents in a 4-man pod. Everyone kept joking that no matter who actually won, I really did. I ended up winning anyway, but it's a little tilted in your favor when you're that familiar with everyone's deck.
I like carrying at least one extra deck to loan out, either to someone who didn't bring their deck, or to someone whose deck is Arcum Dagsson and nobody wants to play against it. I mean, I'm going to bring multiple decks anyway, so I can change over between games...

Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!
the only deck I won't loan out is avacyn, it's not particularly good I just don't like how rough my crowd is on their cards. everytime they flick their hand about with one of my decks I cringe a little. especially now that i'm 4 cards from fully foiling her home.
The one time i loaned out a deck was when we decided to put everyones decks side by side and roll dice for a random deck. It was pretty fun, and I suggest anyone who has problems with power level disparity in their playgroup to try it. Things have been slowly changing for the better since then.
