Hi guys. I was thinking about making some pillow fort deck, probably Doran, the Siege Tower or Gaddock Teeg. If you know other good pillow fort generals, suggestion are welcomed.
Anyway, I don't know much pillow fort cards, just Propaganda, Ghostly Prison or Elesh Norns Annex.
So, do you know some good pillow fort cards for those generals? Or some good really defensive cards?
Grand Arbiter Augustin IV seems like a good possibility. I have a ton of blue and white disruption, protection and taxing cards in a large pile awaiting assembly into a deck for him that I have never got around to making.
Zur the Enchanter is another possibility. I know most people take Zur and turn into a combo deck, but you don't have to do it the same way everybody else does. Being able to tutor up your pillow-fort enchantments on demand will be powerful.
Karmic Justice is also a good card to discourage people from attacking you.
How does this help people NOT attack you? It just makes them not want to remove your noncreature permanents.....
I use "attack" in the general sense, not specifically the "Declare Attackers" step. Perhaps I should have used a different word than "attack." Pillowfort strategies discourage attacking you through creatures and destroying your permanents.
Oh another that I just thought of is Divine Presence. Shuts down large beaters and voltron decks fairly well, and any creature you control with 4+ toughness (Doran deck?) can block forever.
With a good defense up, you can afford to use your opponents as your offense. If you end up playing Bant, you have access to Edric, Spymaster of Trest, one of the best attack deterrents. Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer is another good one, since it both deters attacks and becomes a politics tool as well.
All MtG tokens. Need 8 WotC tokens and 88 handmade tokens.
1 EDH for each color combination. Complete: C, U, G, UB, WB, UR, GU, BRG, WBG, RWU, BRW, WUBRG
IMO, the best pillow fort spells are ones that don't just "stop them from attacking you entirely" like Ensnaring Bridge, it'll just make them easy targets then they'll come at you full force (although they're certainly good cards to have, I'm not gonna say "don't" run them).
Basically: "I attack him" --> Something bad happens to me, cards.
...and actually any Instants/Answers you can keep recycling or getting back. Make them punished for wanting to target you, that's the best pillow fort tactic. You can always sit under Moat or Humility, but that increases their Hostility level toward you and puts more of a bullseye on your head.
Keep up the good work... This is one of the reasons I enjoy the format so much. Oh and btw if you ever sat across from me with this deck id hate you for the rest of my days lol ;] Shahrazad
Throwing Karn in there and ticking him up is another good fun way to prevent people from attacking you. Also, you can throw cards like Conjured Currency in there to convince the table your deck isn't a tuned piece of violence... and then beat them when they're unawares.
Delaying Shield works wonders if you've got a lot of life, can bounce it, or have plenty of mana. Note that it's replacement effect rather than damage prevention.
I use just Crawlspace and Propaganda in Azami. Mono U doesn't have many good options. Ensnaring bridge kinda sucks if you keep a full hand lol. I'd probably consider Dissipation Field. In Mono U you don't have to worry so much about ETB shenanigans because you have counter support.
Last night I top decked a lucky Enchanted Evening with Sphere of Safety already in play while at 3 life and was able to survive another 10 or so turns. Unfortunately I let the game go by being greedy.
I go a different way with Gaiji, Honoured One as my commander for the 'you could attack me but you could also attack him and get +2/+0 on all your creatures...'
If you're playing Doran, play a handful of Fog / Holy Day / Darkness variants.
Why? Because once people realize you're playing even a single fog effect, they are instantly more hesitant to actually commit resources to attack you. The mindgames you can play are nigh-endless. You'd be surprised how many attacks my Damia has been saved from simply because I had a full grip of cards which might have included one such card, even when it didn't.

I'd just run more defensive/political cards like:
Basically: "I attack him" --> Something bad happens to me, cards.
...and actually any Instants/Answers you can keep recycling or getting back. Make them punished for wanting to target you, that's the best pillow fort tactic. You can always sit under Moat or Humility, but that increases their Hostility level toward you and puts more of a bullseye on your head.
