I ran Tarfire in RB Wort. It pulled its wheight there, but I wouldn't play it in a million years if it wasn't for the recurring shenanigans.
But using shock as a trigger to talk about burn in general, I like red's removal arsenal very much.

I am lucky enough to have a Workshop from way, way back in the day that found a home in Memnarch. Unfortunately if Memnarch doesn't get crazy ramp like this he generally isn't fast enough for my meta.
Edit: Oops, I'm behind a day.
I don't know any EDH decks that I would run Shock in. Burn as an archetype has never been good in any group I play in (or most groups as far as I know) and Shock is not a great burn spell in Eternal formats - there are so many better options!

This is why I started playing magic in the first place. It wasn't PT aspirations just making noobs cry by doing things that are perfectly fair.
Shock is usually an unplayable card in Standard. That is doubly true in EDH.
FWIW: I still have my old Stronghold edition Shocks and went through my entire collection twice to find all 4 of them so I could play Pyrored in standard after Theros came out. I'm still playing them too, but now in R/w burn.
At the very least shock is better than break open against morph creatures.

Shock is garbage it's got cancel syndrome and it's effect is far less powerful in general. Even in a meta or deck this effect wasn't total crap there is a giant pile of better crap to play.
This card is Shockingly bad for EDH. Only getting 2 damage for a card is not good enough even for a dedicated burn deck. I run a ton of bun in my Gisela deck, and cards like this would never make the cut.
That's three different 2-damage instants with upside, all for R (though Tarfire may not provide any actual benefit in a non-tribal deck). Meaning that, basically, a deck would need to want at least three 2-damage instants for R before it would consider shock...
One of the all-stars from Theros, this droopy horn fellow was a godsend to me when it got spoiled. I'll go out on a limb and say that it is a close second behind Solemn Simulacrum as a staple to non-green decks. AND it passes the ever-important Sun Titan test.
It's pretty much a staple to me. I even run it in a green deck (But then, Glissa has a tendency to recur it) and in non-green it's an all star, smoothing out your mana perfectly. It should never get the cut above Solemn Simulacrum unless you have a Sun Titan engine going though.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
I currently run it in eight of my 36 decks, plan to run it in number 37 and probably should be running it in several others (and likely will, as I continue to update and evaluate my decks). It's almost always good, and sometimes, as during a recent game with Grenzo, it provides an ongoing ramp engine.
I've been toying with the idea of getting one altered to look like Xerneas; (The pokemon in my forum avatar.) Maybe I'll get that done at an upcoming GP.
I never played with Burnished Hart. I can see why other people would want to, but for me the body is bad and the mana cost requirement (to both put the card in play and then activate it) is much too steep for my liking. It does provide land-based fixing for non-green decks, but the price is too high imo. I'd rather play worn powerstone, coalition relic, gilded lotus or heck even armillary sphere.
I might give it a try in my new reanimator deck, when I find what #value creatures don't work well, because as mentioned, it can be recurred with sun titan.
For me it is a staple for every non-green deck.
Its true it is not cheap, 6 mana for 2 lands. But ramp for 2 lands for 6 mana in nongreen is quite good I think.
But many times its like T2 Burnished, T3 block + sac.
Also, can act as potentional blocker and be saced in response.
I got it in RW, UB, UBR decks.
I tend to lean more towards Dreamcrusher's assessment here. This card is fine, but it's such a huge tempo hit using this thing. It seems like a stretch to call it a staple in a format that has Sol Ring, Jens, Coalition Relic, Signets, and on and on. I currently run it in a RWU deck as a budget option, but I'd swap it out for Coalition relic in a hartbeat if I had one to spare. Obviously this card's stock goes up if you have Sun Titan or other reanimate shenanigans as others have mentioned. But it's not an auto-include.
Heart is great because mana stones are suspect to getting blown off. I guess I'm a bit biased tho since I'm playing a Coffers-deck where this kind of effect is even more powerful
I didn't like him at first. I thought he was to slow. But actually playing with him has drastically changed my mind. Very solid card. Almost a staple in all non green decks.
But using shock as a trigger to talk about burn in general, I like red's removal arsenal very much.
Pauper: UR some horrible homebrew izzet deck

It's basically unplayable, since there's a strictly better card, and cards that trade better for 2 red mana.
:symr::symb: I hate your deck(Kaervek the Merciless)
Wait, how do I even hide it as a name title?

It offends me when WotC puts good art and/or names on garbage cards. I guess shock will move in and out of playability in standard, but otherwise...
But in EDH, not very useful. I wouldn't add it into my 99.
