That's a lot of mana. I think the problem with it is that, by the time you have that much mana, you can be dropping much, much more powerful bombs. It's only real power comes from the ability to spend your mana and not your cards, but 1/1 tokens aren't really strong enough.

I think that's actually it's biggest weakness as compared to stuff like Springjack Pasture and Urza's Factory, because you are spending a card. Because the other two take up a land slot, while this requires that you spend time casting it as an artifact first. If you never make a token with springjack, it's fine, because you only gave up running a colored land for the potiential. With this, if you don't make a couple tokens with it, it's a waste of a card.
That's a ton of mana for generating a flying token. Even just given artifact options, I'd rather have Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII; even though the tokens don't fly, they produce two very relevant creature types in Goblins and Saprolings. If you need Soldiers, then Throne of Empires can do it for 4 mana to cast and only 1 to activate. For any other creatures type, you can get 2/2s for the same cost with Volrath's Laboratory. I think that you end up paying too much for the added premium in the fact that the token has flying. I'd rather have the cheaper cost or more relevant creature type.
If creature type doesn't matter, you still have better options. Phyrexian Processor costs one mana less to play and activate, but the tokens it generates are substantially more impactful than a 1/1 flyer for a minimal extra payment of life. Myr Turbine is also an option that costs the same to cast but nothing to activate... Heck, even Orochi Hatchery is a better deal given that if you cast it for 4 mana, you get two tokens for each 5 mana activation instead of only one.
I think that the only reason to run The Hive is in some sort of Insect tribal deck.
Regeneration is always a useful effect, but we can save a card slot by using Yavimaya Hollow. If it was a cantrip and a common it would at least be mildly playable in Pauper, but as it stands this card is something I would draft just before the tip card. It's a shame, because I like the art.
It's good on an Isochron Scepter, since it can regenerate the scepter if you hold it open, but still isn't better than a 2-mana counter, a Lightning Helix, or a Fog.

Huh, just realized that it said target permanent. You would think that with three words to read I would have caught that, but I just woke up and apparently was thinking it was just creatures. So my thoughts on the card don't change and I would never run it, but if it was a cantrip it would be playable.
It's basically an extremely limited counterspell. I mean, you can use it as a combat trick, I guess, but 9+ times out of ten it's going to be used to counter removal. But, despite the fact that white and green don't get good counters, it's just way to reactive and limited to ever be worth it.
Maybe in Uril? To help him weather wraths? Even in that case though, so many of the played boardwipes these days are tuck/exile/bounce effects.
Don't really have anything more to say here that wasn't already said. It's got a niche role, if you need this effect, you play it, otherwise you pass on it.

Even in Uril it sucks when you've got Boros Charm to protect him and all his toys for the same CMC.
Edit: Boros Charm is pretty much superior to Reknit. Are there any situations in which regeneration would be better than indestructibility?

On further thought, I guess it's a Sunforger target, so it would be nice to have in your deck if you could guarantee you would never actually draw it....
...Oh! The 'k' is silent. As in to knit a scarf. Also, bones are said to knit in a cast after they have been broken. "Re-nit."
Anyway, I think the potential to save your important enchantments, artifacts, lands, or planeswalkers is pretty cool. I'm not sure any other card has that kind of effect.

This is why I started playing magic in the first place. It wasn't PT aspirations just making noobs cry by doing things that are perfectly fair.
Repeatable tap effects are always nice, but this one doesn't even hit everything and costs double blue. So not much reason to play this unless it's a tribal deck.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
