Riku stole some of her thunder, but she's still a solid general.
I disagree, everyone (myself included) said this when Riku was spoiled, but I don't think it's true. Wort's ability to chippy spells at no manacost adds a lot of power to her.
As Cryo stated she also has a nasty habit to fly under the radar, and if anything, Riku makes that even more true today.
I once played with a guy who piloted Wort and he was pretty decent at politics. In my experience, being able to convince others that Wort on the field is not threatening is a fundamental tactic of playing her as a general.
Wort is one of the funnest EDH decks I play. In my experience, ALL generals experience hate of one form or another, so its nothing out of the ordinary when people try to keep your general off the board. But the one time Wort sticks all-heck breaks loose...
The issue with comparing Wort to Riku is that they operate on a completely different level when it comes to the creature and spell base. Wort loves tokens where Riku wants creatures with ETB effects. Wort wants lots of big instants/sorceries to copy, where Riku is happier with small to midrange costing spells that will ensure that they have enough mana open to copy them. Even though they both can copy spells, they are just different.
About the only fun RG general in my opinion. I've had some Wort ideas on the back-burner for a while now, will get to them eventually.
As for the Riku comment, I think they're pretty different. Conspire doesn't force you to leave mana open, which is big, and token hoardes provide a backup game plan.
Ahh, Wort. I played her roughly four years ago, but she gave me some good memories and let the Timmy in me gush out. When doubling mana and doubling up spells, she turned into "big mana burn" and "big creature pump". I think my personal record for a Comet Storm was for X=44, conspired.
Wort decks give big results. Literally. I would be interested in looking to play her again.
I love her as a general. Never player with it, but had a buddy that had a pretty effective deck with her if she stuck. Man, that thing had alllll the X spells, adn a ton of mana, and just burned everyone to death like T7. It was a ton of fun to play against.
So far the consensus I'm hearing is that she can be a strong general to play against, but she's lots of fun to play and play against. You hear that Wizards? These are the generals you should be making, not the one sided stuff you've been making recently.

Bingo. Wort's pretty fun to play with and against. A buddy of mine plays Wort big mana-->fireballs. When someone uses Fireball and divides it with enough damage to still kill everyone, it's pretty impressive.
I once terrorized a league with Wort. Seedborn Muse and Vedalken Orrey are where it's at. Store Owner immediately regretted selling me the Seedborn Muse.

Reminds me of Doran in that regard...gosh, that block rocked.
There's not much to say about the cycle of enemy fetchlands from Zendikar, or the cycle of allied ones from Onslaught. As far as mana-fixing goes, these are really top-notch. The one life is negligible in this format, and when you combine them with a shockland or ABUR dual, you've have the smoothest manabase out there.
About the only negative thing to say about them is their price, so hopefully they'll get reprinted in a core/expert set or another Modern Masters.
Polluted Deltas and Scalding Tarn in particular are 36€ a pop, minimum.
Man, where are you finding Deltas for 36E? Here in the states, Deltas are around $100 starcity (so ~$75 in real-people dollars), Strands are like $75 scg, and Tarn/Rainforest are at least $50.
But yeah, these lands are really good. So good that I'll run 7 in 2-color decks and 9 in 3-color decks.

Yep, not much to say about them. They are good. So good that the only reason not to run every single one you're allowed is because you don't have the $$$ to own them all.
With fetchlands, you're actually forced to buy shocks/duals too, so putting fetches into your deck "opens the floodgates," so to speak. Pretty wasteful for your Scalding Tarn to only be able to grab basics.
Manabases, even up to 5-color, can be made without them. Commander is such a forgiving format to manabases compared to others.

Shocks are pretty darn cheap right now if you pick up RTR ones.
That's a decent reason to run a suite of fetches in mono-color. Crucible + Fetch is noticably useful in mono-R/W as a way to thin your deck, making you more likely to draw gas instead of land over time.
These are less reasonable in mono-color, with 4 as the most reasonable if you have a way to do it repeatedly (JTMS/Scroll Rack) and a way to ensure you get that often enough.
2 and 3 are plenty reasonable as well. Running something like Oracle of Mul-Daya, it's amazing value to be able to shuffle into potentially another land drop when you've got crap on top. Multi-triggering things like Blooghast and Rampaging Baloths is always phenomenal as well.

I was always under the impression that the "deck thinning" was so negligible that it is t really a reason. Now the shuffle for Top etc is a good reason to run fetches, but thinning 1/99 of your deck isn't doing anything.

+1.
Even thinning a 60 card deck is actually negligible, statistically. I link this old article I found that pretty much solidly shows that the card parity you gain from repeated fetch uses is barely a consideration at all (http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/print.asp?ID=3096)
That said, there are lots of non-dual, non-shock reasons to run fetches, even in monocolour. Personally, I'm really torn about getting them for my mono-white deck (and by 'getting them', I mean 'scraping together $200'). I really would like Scroll Rack to be better, and I'd like Sensei's Divining Top to be a better proposition for the deck, but the monetary cost is prohibitive (like, I'd seriously rather get a Mana Drain or The Abyss or something than a bunch of fetches so I can use scroll rack).
Lands are one of my favorite type of magic cards. I especially like these. I love the art and I love the how useful these lands prove to be. They provide a Shuffle effect, fix a mana base, and trigger one of my favorite mechanics in landfall. The benefits these lands provide justify the price tag. However, the cost does not justify them to be used in a casual format.
Perhaps we will see these gems again in a new product. I can only hope it is sooner rather than later.

This.
That Riku costs only 5 and includes blue nearly outclasses Wort at what he does.
Imo, Wort was overcosted to begin with.....a cost of 5 would have been really nice.
Despite that, I still push Wort to succeed.

Perhaps he was playing against Mikaeus, the Unhallowed.dec...
I think he meant to say Wildfire, although Conspiring cards like Plow Under, Rain of Salt, or Wake of Destruction can have an even bigger impact on land disparity.

There are plenty of reasons to use Fetches even without duals though (such as in a monocolored deck):
1) Rings of Brighthearth, Crucible of Worlds, Life from the Loam, or anything else that can get multiple uses out of them
2) Landfall triggers
3) Future Sight effects
4) Brainstorm effects
5) Terravore
