I think Khamal has the best versatility in differing avenues of attack, as well as utility with wrath protection.
He can support army play, heavy ramp play, make an army himself, or go in for commander damage. He can pop off enemy lands in front of a wrath, or go more proactive with salvaging station and blazing torch or triangle of war.
Not purely goodstuff, but I've found Seton, Krosan Protector to be incredibly powerful. Granted you will want to run 20ish druids, some of which you would run anyway, but the deck is blisteringly fast. Azusa, Lost but Seeking is also an obviously good choice, and as bob recommended Kamahl, Fist of Krosa.
I run a Kamahl, Fist of Krosa deck and it's outstandingly resilient. His ability to animate an opponent's lands when a wrath is on the stack is terrifying to most opponents. My version is Huge Mana - with every conceivable mana doubler we have access to. I feel that - as BobTheFunny said - Kamahl gives me an extraordinary range of options for play - and allows me to adjust to the other decks in the game.
If you like playing green goodstuff on other people's turns, consider Yeva, Nature's Herald. A well built Yeva list can feel like you're playing a U deck at times, only with a lot more smashy.
Mono-green doesn't use the same staples multi-color decks splashing green use. Mono-green is almost always fast mana aggro. And most of the better mono-green lists focus heavily on cards which can accelerate us there.
Azusa is probably the best mono-green commander, but in order to get the most out of her you probably want to run stuff that has good synergy.
As far as just good stuff, Kamahl is probably the best for that.
Azusa is definitely the strongest when built around...but most people know that and will react accordingly, so if you run her be prepared to be targeted.
Azusa provides ramp in a deck that already has enough to win. Because of this she really is not the best - to make her work you need to build a worse deck.
I prefer Kamahl, but Yeva and Dosan can be really good too.
Granted, I feel that the best use of the Command Zone is to put something in there that the rest of the deck is missing. Why put a counterspell in the Command Zone when you already have 10 in the deck... that kind of thing.
Thanx to all of the replies... I have heard a lot about Azusa, Lost but Seeking and even watched this type of deck in action on You Tube (The Other 99 videos are really good - hats off to them), however, I really wasn't wanting to buy a bunch of cards that would be necessary to pilot a "build-around-me" commander like Azusa.
From most of your replies, it looks like if I am dumping my mono-Green good stuff from my binder into sleeves, then Kamahl, Fist of Krosa is the way to go. I will be including the new Theros legends Nylea, God of the Hunt and Bow of Nylea, and who knows, maybe give Nylea a shot at the helm in a couple of matchups.
Thanx again all... and feel free to comment with any necessary staples that Kamahl likes to have in his 99!

Azusa turns all your draw into ramp which means that most Azusa lists don't waste slots on stuff like Cultivate and are free to replace them with utility and draw.
Or lands so you have something to do with her after the first turn you play her. The problem with so many Azusa decks is that they need to run 40+ land to use her. If you cut down on the land then you run the risk of wasting your commander slot. She also isn't that good once you have a bazillion mana and doesn't do anything that the rest of your deck can't already do without her.
I guess it's a play style thing, but I would much rather put gas in my Command and use Wood Elves and mana doublers in the deck.

It just tickles me when I can pay 3 life a turn for 3 lands a turn when I combine with fetches and Crucible. Not to mention all dem landfall triggers.
Granted, I'm a bit biased since she was one of my first decks. Not that this matters since the OP is just looking for a goodstuff general, not one to build an engine around.

See, that whole "goodstuff" element is why I would lean towards Omnath as my recommendation (of course I'm biased because I play Omnath).
You keep him out there long enough and not only is he a voltron general but you can basically play your deck all at once with a bunch of cards like Genesis Wave. You can also tutor out a ton of creatures each turn with things like Tooth and Nail (+ Eternal Witness and Regrowth. With enough Omnath mana in the pool you can entwine T&N 3 times in one turn) and Fauna Shaman.
The only major drawback to Omnath is that he always has a giant target on his back and its hard to protect him in mono-green (Asceticism comes to mind but not much else).
Baru, Fist of Krosa is an interesting choice. Doesn't say forests under your control. Dosan the Falling Leaf if you are having problems with other people doing stuff on your turn. Hua Tuo, Honored Physician seems really powerful and really resilient, but it's from Portal 3k. So it's on the expensive side. Kamahl, Fist of Krosa his ability doesn't cause him to tap so you can use either as many times as you want. Very resilient. Myojin of Life's Web seems really fun. Abuses the ability since you can just keep recasting it from the command zone for the divinity counter ability. Nemata, Grove Guardian this one can get nuts with tokens. Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger can mess up opponents lands and double yours. Zuo Ci, the Mocking Sage she can be used with a voltron build. Basically unblockable and has hexproof. Even though it's a Portal 3k card, it's still under $20.

Under $20 because it's easy to block. "Zuo Ci, the Mocking Sage can't be blocked by creatures with horsemanship."
I feel that Omnath is being way overrated. Sure, I have some bias but so does pretty much everyone else in this thread. He is as explosive as Azusa without having to cram your deck with lands and as Resilient as Kahmal considering he doesn't also lose when Azuza isn't out because you're topdecking tons of land.
In my opinion, he is the strongest mono green general, and probably one of the three strongest generals (The other two being Arcum and Azami)

DCI Level 1 Judge-
Thanks to Heroes of the Plane for the awesome Sig.
I'm going to say yeva too. god draws play her on turn two and untap to play survival of the fittest. Feels good to be able to play 30+ cards at instant speed.
I'll also cast my lot for Yeva. Green goodstuff that can fight at light speed is something vicious and very fun. Kamahl would probably be my second choice but I prefer him as part of the 99.

Already in my binder are:
Time to empty my binder and build a Mono Green Good Stuff EDH deck. So... for Mono-Green G.S. who would you recommend as a Commander?
Should I give Nylea a try... Indestructible is nice. Go with Thrun and add some equipment - build a Hexproof theme?
Also... What are some other "staples" for Mono-Green that I would need to include.
Thanx for the feedback!
I write EDH articles on EDHREC and MTGCasualPlay. I hope you like them!

You already have an Omnath...He can be a pretty good mono-green commander.
As far as mono green staples go here are some I would suggest:
Cultivate
Kodama's Reach
Colorless stuff you may want to consider as answers to things like Iona:
Ulamog or Kozilek
EDH Decks:
WUBOloro, Combo ControlWUB
UBOona Reanimator ComboUB
BRGProssh, Eater of the Blue MageBRG
UBRGrixis StormUBR
Rebuilding Jenara (stealyourstuff.dec)
Pauper Deck:
