Legendary Creature — Sphinx
Flying
Whenever Medomai the Ageless deals combat damage to a player, take an extra turn after this one.
Medomai can't attack during extra turns.
4/3
Was anyone actually excited to see this created? I think it's really awful. A blue white general with time magic attached? As if time magic isn't annoying enough, here it comes with a body attached that you don't even need to tutor to get. Protect this stinx, er sphinx, with counterspells, sprinkle in some haste and you have the potential for true obnoxiousness. People are up in arms about prossh, skyraider of kher but I'd rather fight Prossh anyday of the week. Besides playing the stinx as a general, it's going to make other annoying time decks just a bit stronger with a recurring time effect. I don't like to complain, (but I am )
but this card was the one thing I really dislike from Theros so far. Yes, I realize it is only 3 toughness, but this is blue we're talking about here.. It's certainly not the end of the world, but a time walk in the command zone is the last thing I wanted to see. Thoughts?
Well, it costs six bloody mana, needs to have haste to be used that turn, still has to connect with an opponent, and it can't be abused to get multiple turns.
I don't understand what you're so up in arms about.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
Remember that if Saka copies Medomai, neither will be able to attack on the extra turns. You need to either put him into play attacking (like Kaalia does) or remove his abilities when he attacks and then restore them before he hits (something like Humility + repetable bounce like Capsize or Vedalken Mastermind).
Or they could both attack in the same turn.

I think he'll be a fun general. I think he can be good, but not really good. The problem is that he relies on combat damage for his ability to trigger which is easier to stop than if he just time walked by himself. I'm much more worried about the other azorius general in edh. That one is bonkers compared to the time walk dude. Medomai is probably a little stronger in a deck than as a general.
I'll be giving the Sphinx a try in my Lavinia of the Tenth build. Even though Lavinia is based on flicker effects, I am very glad to see that the Sphinx cannot be abused for infinite turns in this matter.
I like the card and don't see any issues, --yet--...

I think giving him hexproof would be nightmare to play against. Lighthouse chronologist and this guy out at the same time (after you level him up) would get extremely annoying.
He seems bad, but he has the same problems every non-ETB creature has - he is 'slow'. There is usually plenty of time to kill him before he attacks, or in the cast of lightning greaves or hall of the bandit lord, there is plenty of time to remove the haste enabler.
My immediate thought is that he is going to be in a lot of Rafiq decks - double time walk if he gets through....
Other than that, he will only be as bad as any other creature that will kick your butt if it hits you.
Without an extra attack phase, all an extra turn gets you is an extra draw, a full untap, and an extra land drop. Like an Explore + Early Harvest. Pretty good, but it doesn't protect itself. It's certainly not backbreaking or degenerate relative to what other things do at 6cmc. As a general, the most obvious build is an aggro-control that wants to play things at both Instant and Sorcery. Most decks will want to play her with Flash. Any sort of Combo-Control, or mana-denial/Stax Control doesn't want this because it's not as good as a Time Warp most of the time. GAAIV and Hanna will still be played to better results than this, though Medomai might get played more widely because of the recent release.
As one of the 99, it can probably get pretty annoying. When it goes around an orbit in Rafiq, two extra turns is pretty bonkers, and that kind of payout on mana and cards probably wins the game. Numot decks will dream of this scenario as well, but honestly, if you've resolved two 6 drops and are now attacking with them there are a lot of things you could've won with. A Stonehewer Giant into Sunforger is just as annoying with that much time.
I am pretty excited to try it out as one of the 99 in Isperia the Inscrutable. It won't go infinite, but similar to Consecrated Sphinx I really don't think it has to; you can tutor it up and (if it sticks) generate so much value that it becomes really, really difficult to lose.
He's probably better in America colors than Aurelia because he untaps your lands and gives you a draw in addition to the extra combat that Aurelia gives.
Though would take a lot of luck, it's possible getting him out on turn 3 with Azorius colors. Use Grand Arbiter Augustin IV as general.
T1: Land, Solring
T2: Land, General
T3: Medomai
If that happens, the other players are screwed whether or not medomai is cast on turn 3. This point is irrelevant to how strong medomai is. Also, it's important to note that the broken card here is sol ring.
My friend got a turn 2 grave titan once. His opponent scooped on turn 4. That has nothing to do with how strong grave titan is - it has everything to do with how broken sol ring and mana crypt are.
Actually if my opponent is on a Sol Ring draw, something like Medomai is actually what I want to see come out. Someone is going to have an answer sooner or later. I don't want to see something like Braids, Cabal Minion, World Queller or Tangle Wire when I'm out of position, and if I see some kind of ritual, tutor or Ad Nauseum I am probably dying within 2 turns.
He seems like he'd be value city as one of the 99 in a lot of decks. Idk if I would run him as a general, since it seems like an awkward deck to build due to his attacking restriction, but I definitely seem him getting a lot of play. Any time you can give him double strike or extra combat steps would just be amazing. Yet another reason to fear Rafiq.
As soon as I saw this card I thought of a friends Grand Arbiter deck. He has all the mana denial tricks you would expect but a lack of finishing ability. Enter Medomai. Now my friend can establish position, wait until he is comfortable with his soft lock, then drop Medomai and get his win that much easier.
For me, my equipment heavy Ruhan deck has another awesome sword carrier. Imagine having Medomai next to a godo wearing feast and famine?
IMO Azorius has always been weak in regards to beaters. this is a welcome addition.
I get a kick out of how split the community is; so many people don't like hexproof and think its getting overused and put on any creature Wizards can think of but then when they print a good card with a good effect that doesn't have hexproof everyone slings the popular "dies to removal" around.
That being said, I personally think Medomai is great as one of the 99 in several decks including the other new U/W general Daxos of Meletis.
Dude has 3 toughness. For Pete's sake you can Bolt him. He's only going to be a problem if you refuse to play spot removal, BLOCK, or if your strategy is somehow slower than Azorius ramp into 6-cost non-hasty flying beater.
Bruna is like 100 times better than this guy. One Intuition (yes, I know, broken) and forget extra turns... the game is over.

The fabled "Jace test" is a thing for a reason. Creatures that don't pass it aren't going to be very good in a lot of places. Also, Hexproof is not the only or even best way to pass the Jace test. ETB is a thing, I've heard. So it's pretty valid to point out that this 6cmc card has the potential to do nothing if killed.
