I was fortunate enough to draft MM recently, and I absolutely LOVED drafting Thallids. So I wanted to bring them to my favorite (or at least one of my favorite) format, EDH.
As for a general, I've pretty much narrowed it down to the fungus among us, Ghave, Guru of Spores. Obviously this deck will include all-stars such as Doubling Season, but I was curious if anyone had tried building Thallid/Fungus tribal before. I know Thelon of Havenwood would be a more flavorful general, but Ghave's abilities are just better, and he allows us to run the white Thallids.
I know the deck will also definitely feature Sporesower Thallid and Sporoloth Ancient (the two thallids that send the rest into overdrive), but I was hoping people would have interesting suggestions as to how to build such a deck.
Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!
Thallids are a trap. Wraths happen too often in multiplayer EDH to really let them do anything. Ghave is fine as a commander but thallids wont work unless out well...
Thelon of Havenwood would be potentially the way to go with it though. Its still not very playable though.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. I was just wondering if there was any way to counteract that fact.
Well I don't know about a trap - you just can't plan on beating down with massive swarms of saprolings at all regularly.
Instead, you sneak out incidental, durable value with Perilous Forays and Sprout Swarm and similar, and play around the inevitable succession of sweepers, and just enjoy the process of farming rather than trying to blow out with a swarm. It probably won't ever be strong, but it can at least be durable, and never leave you with nothing to do.
Or you could load up with Ghave Combo, though that tends to be a bit slow.
EDIT: Cathars' Crusade seems pretty relevant. Anything that triggers on creatures entering the battlefield probably relates to a Thallid deck.

I too run a Ghave Thallid tribal deck. They've been my favorite tribe since I was a wee lad cracking Fallem Empire packs (dat Thallid Devourer art)... But I digress...
Essence of the Wild turns Ghave into a potential army of largish threats. Eldrazi Monument protects the little guys from wrath effects. Ashnod's Altar allows for CRAZY shenanigans (especially when paired with Parallel Lives and Doubling Season) Aura Shards is insane in this deck. Don't leave home without it. Skullclamp basically gives Ghave the ability 2: draw 2 cards... Psychotrope Thallid is a very synergistic source of repeatable card advantage when combined with Ghave.
Those are just the all-stars that immediately come to mind. Let me know if you want any more suggestions =)
edit: almost forgot Cathars' Crusade! It's insanely busted as long as you don't mind a little book keeping.
It's possible to keep yourself wrath-free with a combination of Mind Slash and Thoughtpicker Witch. Strip removal from their hands and then make sure they never draw it or a way to draw into it. It can't always work, and you need a fair amount of token generation to hit that point, but it's a possibility.

I've built Thelon and Ghave, and I can tell you that Gave will always be an awesome combo general. If that's what you're going for he's great at it. You will end up cutting the thallids though if you build him. Trust me, I tried, they are way too inefficient compared to him. Thelon on the other hand allows you to build a tribal deck without feeling like you have to play a combo deck with him, however he is slow and grindy. To combat board wipes try things like Fresh Meat, and use your graveyard as a resource either by using Thelon's ability, Night Soil, or just re-animating with the black spells. Also Rancor and Weatherseed Treefolk allow you to re-use some of your cards. Also Verdeloth the Ancient will give both saprolings and treefolk a bonus, so he has good synergy as well.

Sadistic Hypnotist can wipe their whole hand, but doesn't keep them from top decking one.

Interesting take... I too tried both Thelon and Ghave, and found Ghave to be far superior for tribal, simply because he synergizes with the Thallids so much better (providing cheap Saprolings rather than having to wait 3 turns). That being said, the optimal Ghave strategy will always be combo (without Thallids), though that does not mean you can't have a happy medium and run Thallids at the expense of some degree of competitiveness.

Ghave is superior, but he plays completely differently. I also built the decks very differently from one another. I felt like I was building Ghave to win, and I was building Thelon to have fun.
I ended up playing Thelon more, and lately I've been more or less taking Ghave apart. I've already gotten rid of my Doubling Season and traded several other pieces out of it as well. I sort of wish I still had the Doubling Season for Thelon now but oh well.
Playing Ghave does give you access to white and that's kind of a big deal. In addition to the things already mentioned Ranger of Eos can be quite useful in Ghave, either to get a Young Wolf and combo with an altar, or to get a big hydra, or w/e.
You could use the RtR Sylesnia things that can help out your tokens. Also, Emmara Tandris can help prevent the board wipes although she isn't the greatest and it would take out all of your fungi.
Proliferate seems like it would be useful here. Contagion Engine, Contagion Clasp, and Plaguemaw Beast could all find a home in your deck pretty easily, provided you go heavy enough on the fungi.

Im working on a Vorel of the Hull Clade deck with two interchangeable themes, one of which is fungus tribal. If you can start stacking Life Matrix counters then you wont have to worry about wraths so much(except for the original). Then going into blue gives you access to Paradox Haze and Opposition( a better Glare of Subdual).

I'm disappointed Varolz, the Scar-Striped isn't a fungus, given his art, but what can you do?

Stopping wraths is troublesome and difficult though. Generally speaking it doesn't work out as well.
