By durdely, I'm saying you're spending a lot of time and energy setting up plays. It's very easy to fall behind with Overlord out, and it's easy to get yourself tempo'd right out of the game. I've always felt that Overlord is a worse (and less mechanically interesting) Scion of the Ur-Dragon.

I'd also argue that Sliver Legion is an excellent plan b for a good stuff sliver deck; Overlord is essentially a good stuff package by himself, meaning he's going to be a layer of redundancy to any properly built good-stuff deck anyway. (That's not a bad thing, just so we're clear.) Personally, I think Sliver Legion's a very impressive on-demand threat, while I think Sliver Overlord's a mediocre on-demand engine. I get why some players would want him, and there's neat things he does with creature types, but I've never been impressed with him. (Overlord's probably the better budget general, though.)

On the mana base: I was more responding to the guy up above who emphatically said that a 10-10-10-10 split is "the best land base to run," and I wanted to underline that it isn't. I'll also stand by my comment on checklands; many five-color lands are as cheap or cheaper than the checklands, and provide more colors. You can't fetch either, so you may as well get the one that costs you less money and does more for your mana.

I guess I more meant that the checklands are so easy to come by. Seems like every time I open a handful of packs one falls out (ironically usually a Crag, bleh.) There are better lands to run, certainly, but they are just easy to get, and if you are running a decent number of basics they can and often will come in untapped, which you want. Sure, a five color land is going to be better, and of course you want that, but they are an option to fill land slots.

I guess I see where you are coming from with the Overlord, but I disagree with one point; I see the Overlord as more of a combo general, rather than a goodstuff. He can be a goodstuff toolbox general, however often if I am going to use him as my commander I want to win before you can do anything about it. Use him to tutor out my Queen and a few options to go infinite, for example.

Legion is just plain fun in comparison, and I agree with you that he can be a very threatening presence on the board, especially as you start to drop more slivers. Get him and Sliver Queen in play and it is game on *****es!

Oh, deffo agreed – if you're on a budget and you've got easy access to something, you oughta use it. (And the checklands aren't bad, I should say; I run a few of 'em myself. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they are in 2- and 3-color decks.)

Damn, now you have me thinking about wanting to make a Legion toolbox deck, lol.

Ashnod's Alter/Basal Sliver + Sliver Queen + Training Grounds/Heartstone

Intruder Alarm + Heart Sliver + Gemhide Sliver + Sliver Overlord - If you have enough Slivers you can play every Sliver in your deck on that turn. Training Grounds/Heartstone are your friends.

Queen + Basal Sliver + Gemhide + Heart Sliver - All Sliver combo. Can be tutored via Overlord and played with Cavern Of Souls for uncounterable wins.

Add in Necrotic Sliver, Cautery Sliver and Acidic Sliver to infinite mana/creatures for a kill if you can't just attack. Victual Sliver to a lesser extent.

Harmonic Sliver is absolute tits in this deck.. Darksteel Ingot if you want a "ground". It's also a nice mana rock in a 5-color deck.

Isn't Sliver Legion also the combo general for Mirror Entity?

100% required. I had a Momir deck make the mistake of playing it against slivers... suddenly slivers everywhere... turns started taking forever because. He had the "pay 1 life return sliver to your hand" bounce flash bounce flash.... a good taste of Momirs own medicine if you ask me.

The sliver play immidately ordered his own copy.

He is running Primal surge because why not put your deck on the table.

That's the land base for my Sliver list and it works well enough.

Since I didn't see it in any of the suggestions thus far, it's vitally important that you don't overlook that Crystalline Sliver.

Specifically, make sure you run Clot Sliver. If you have Crystalline out, you won't be able to regenerate with Crypt Sliver.

Ghostflame Sliver is worth running if you have problems against decks with protection.

Pulmonic Sliver is a good way to get Slivers back when they die, too.

Slivers with abilities that stack and clones are two of my preferred methods (but that's not all my slivers). Also, Amoeboid Changeling and Mirror Entity are really good, and they're slivers!

Your best general is the Sliver Overlord. Once he's out, he can tutor all the other slivers.

Be wary of certain slivers. I do not recommend the following:

Dormant Sliver: Defender and, while the upside stacks, it can quickly kill you when you consider we're definitely including Brood Sliver.
Frenzy Sliver: A constant +1/+0 is better most of the time. Or +1/+1. Or +2/+0. Or +2/+2.
Fungus Sliver: It's good, but Vigor is better.
Metalllic Sliver and Venser's Sliver: Blah. They could at least make all the slivers artifacts or something.
Mistform Sliver: I don't see the point once you start getting a lot of slivers out.
Opaline Sliver: Time to break symmetry with Asceticism instead.
Plague Sliver: This adds up too fast.
Shadow Sliver: Hey, let's make all my dudes unable to block. Shifting Sliver and Dauthi Embrace handle this better.
Spinneret Sliver: For a 2/2 sliver for 1c, you have Muscle Sliver and Sinew Sliver. And Winged Sliver can grant flying for 1U. Pulmonic Sliver costs five mana, but it grants flying and a recursion ability, and has a 3/3 body.
Talon Sliver: Just run Fury Sliver.
Victual Sliver. There are plenty of better sac outlets out there.
Virulent Sliver: This is strictly worse than old-school poison (in that it requires combat damage, as opposed to any damage), and is far worse than infect. On the flip side, it's likely to make everybody hate you for no reason faster than you can say "congregate".
Ward Sliver: You'll be playing all five colors and no doubt targeting your slivers with spells from those colors, so no.

You're very incorrect about a couple of those.

Dormant Sliver is beyond incredible. It gives you an insane amount of card advantage, especially when combined with token generation like Sliver Queen. It will also never interact with Brood Sliver, because you can't be attacking when it's out. The point of Dormant is to play it when you know you won't be in a position to attack for a couple turns, build up advantage, and then sacrifice it to one of your many outlets like Necrotic Sliver so that you can swing in. The ONLY time you would want to not put this in your deck is if you're running an all-permanent Primal Surge win, because it will kill you.

Ward Sliver is incredible. Very few spells you'll want to play will be actually targeting your slivers, and it doubles as evasion while letting your board dodge a significant amount of removal. Even if the targeting issue does become a problem for you, there are plenty of ways to sacrifice it.

Talon Sliver is also pretty great, because redundancy is never a bad thing and Fury Sliver is on the higher end of your mana curve. Also, it has a lot more Wild Pair targets, as not many slivers are outside the 1/1 or 2/2 range. It's certainly not near the top of the list of good slivers, but if you have room it is helpful especially if there are other heavy creature decks in your meta.

Agreed. Ward Sliver is the one of the few reliable ways Slivers can stop spot removal, especially if you have Crystalline Sliver out and thus can't regenerate with Crypt Sliver or don't have the mana to regenerate with Clot Sliver. As I posted before: Crypt Sliver is targeted regeneration, Clot isn't. This is important if Crystalline is out.

Dormant Sliver is just awesome. I use it in my Overlord EDH. I use it to stall/drop Slivers until I get to a board state where I can Mycosynth Lattice + March of the Machines/Hurkyll's Recall. I also use it (with other Slivers in hand, of course) to keep one of my favorite stall cards, Solitary Confinement, on the board until I draw into Shrine of Seeing Winds or the like. Not to mention, the threat level of a Sliver deck can go down for certain opponents as long as Dormant is out.

So.... I have been trading for dual lands and slivers since this post with Sliver Overlord in mind for my general.

HOWEVER, with the new "Legend Rule", clones become an immediate threat to Sliver Overlord as a commander. Now an opponent can clone the Overlord and take our swarms.

NEW Question! Keeping in mind that blue mages can now have a copy of our general in play... Who is the rightful Commander of a SLIVER EDH Deck?

1) Sliver Overlord
2) Sliver Queen
3) Sliver Legion
4) Karona, False God
5) Other 5 Color Card?
6) With the rule change, no way would I play any of these?

Also, I run all 5 vivid lands and they have been beyond amazing, they tap for any colour for a couple of turns by which point you should have found more colour fixing like prismatic omen or chromatic lantern

I just want to throw this out here, but you don't have to run 5 color slivers.

I have seen some brutal wedge colored sliver decks, running Damia, Animar, Riku, even Maelstrom Wanderer. Sure, it cuts into the number of slivers you can play, but I think each of these generals (and some others) offer something much more powerful than Sliver Overlord, who isn't really any more than a combo enabler.

If I were to consider a non-Sliver, 5 Color Legend to command my hive of aliens/predators, I am really thinking that Karona, False God would be a good choice (therefore editing my post above to include it as an option).

Clones can wreak havoc by coping Sliver Overlord with the new rules, and abusing our Sliver Queen is not to far behind. That leaves the Sliver Legion or a different General.

Strongly considering using Karona as an alpha strike. She enters the battlefield naming slivers, giving them all +3/+3 until end of turn. At end of turn, we use a sliver sacrifice effect to ensure our opponent does not gain control of our avatar on their next turn.

I disagree with the notion of not including the +1/+1 slivers. I hae them, and they start to stack up pretty quickly. My deck is aggro with the ability to combo. The combo cards like Training Grounds are in there, but my primary means of victory is through alpha strikes with the Queen producing lots of tokens for In the Web of War or Shared Animosity. Utility slivers are important, and they're here too.

Don't forget that if you have all three possible generals in your list, you can alternate and see which you like best. I might find room for Twilight's Call, but we'll see.

Dodging removal is important, so I have effects to make my swarm disappear or become indestructible. In my opinion, a few counterspells, Boros Charm effects, and Ghostway effects should be considered for a sliver deck rather seriously.

10 pain lands
1 exotic orchard
1 command tower
1 reflecting pool
5 odyssey filter lands
5 alara tri lands
10 shadowmoor/eventide filter lands
1 city of brass
5 basic land (one of each color)

gemhide sliver


Each color has 17 sources from your lands alone. 19 if you include the 3 artifacts. 20 if you include gemhide. You could even go with Ancient Ziggurat if you wanted more fixing. All for less $ than a Volcanic Island

Question for ya... Now that your opponent can Clone Overlord and steal your slivers (new M14 Rule), will you still be running Sliver Overlord as your General or maybe consider another?
