I dunno, budget to me is a deck I could build with what's in my wallet, from scratch, at my LGS, in one fell swoop. At one point my Nissa deck would've weighed in at like an $80 build (NZD anyway), not so much anymore. As a rule of thumb budget to me is like $100 to build from zero cards to 100 cards.
But then, context is important too - I don't already own most of the chase cards that would really pump the price upon inclusion, like fetches, ABUR's, reserved list chase cards and such, so I can't just casually drop that stuff into a deck (let alone afford it :/ )
Well, I wouldnt even call Queen Marchesa a budget commander anymore. I remember picking up a copy for $6, my LGS is selling her now for like $40. This game can be expensive.

I saw one deck that was under 20 dollars...I have a few good ideas for decks, Pillowfort, stax, counters matter...just not sure which to go with.....I want something that will be fun to play and fun to play against....
Marchesa seems cool in that respect. There’s a lot of neat combat tricks in the colours that can turn the game on it’s head. I guess it depends what you define as fun, it’s a subjective thing. My most enjoyable deck to play is Nissa, purely because it’s pretty explosive, resilient and has some cool tricks up its sleeve, but I don’t think it’s entirely budget anymore. It’s probably like $250-300 NZD at a guess.

My Nissa deck is a tribal build around Nissa herself, and that requires I play some Eldrazi. As a result of playing Newlamog and Emrakul, that's another $65USD right there. Add on the Oracle of Mul Daya, and it's $100 in three cards. This game gets real expensive, even when you try to be budget.

I don't think I could build anything for $4 so budget magic may not be for me.
The Hanna deck a couple posts up may have actually been budget when it was posted in 2017. Greater Auramancy was probably $20 or so, but most of the other pricey stuff in there was reprinted in masters sets around that time and the list has a lot of low-mid value stuff adding up to the total cost, much of which has climbed in price over the last couple years. Budget lists either change constantly or increase in price over time, sometimes pretty drastically. It could also be aimed at online play, where the total cost is under $20.
As an aside, I remember when I started and it seemed crazy to pay more than $1-2 for a single card at the top end. That mindset has definitely changed.

If you thought deck building advice was bad here, you should join random Facebook MTG groups. I post an Ugin Oathbreaker deck and it takes minutes for “AdD tRoN lAnDs.” to flood in. Okay, what do I cut? The answer is always “lands that are really useful at most stages of the game.” That’s cool and all but....”

That's true and I honestly didn't think about when it was posted.
EDIT: I'm looking at Solitary Confinement and it gives you shroud,so unless I'm totally being stupid wouldn't it shut down the epic spells like enduring ideal?
I built a brago deck that was a total of $25 and it actually functioned, so I know it CAN be done. But whether your average deck is gonna be under $200 is a different matter.
I remember building a Brago deck for a similar cost. It was actually decent too. I’ve also built Zada quite cheaply, but it was a pretty marginal build.
There will always be cheap and powerful or worthwhile decks. Most of them embrace a different set of cards than other decks would, which i consider a very entertaining thing. Of my decks both Zada, Hedron Grinder and Edric, Spymaster of Trest would be well below 100€, if i were to cut the few pricier cards in them. Omnath, Locus of Rage would be decent on a budget too, but he'd lose more deck strength than the other 2. As mentioned Brago, King Eternal is a great commander to build on a cheap. At least that's where i started out, too. Like most of my decks it cruised past that 250€ price tag in recent years...
The more "staple" heavy and good stuff a deck is, the pricier the deck gets. And yeah, aside from lands, it's the top standard solutions that cost you a bit. Path to Exile, Toxic Deluge, Cyclonic Rift, ... there are plenty examples. But tbh, over the years i realized that as long as it's mana efficient or flexible you do have decent alternatives. Stuff among the lines of Reality Shift, Beast Within, Generous Gift, Nature's Claim and the likes is all very budget friendly.
Luckily I have store credit ( yeah!) to help offset any hit to my bank account. Right now the highest costing card will be Greater Auramancy unless I plop down the money for Academy Rector but even if i wanted the rector, the world championship is a little less than half the normal one. unless i go all out and get Serra's Sanctum
Can anyone tell me what the maximum image size in px for the signature is?
I can recall that it will scale the image down, if it's unproportionally big, but i haven't found any details in the forums.
Reason is, i'd like to craft a farewell sig for when MTGS goes to read only.
Sorry I missed this, but it's 600x100 or 450x150 pixels.
I traded away my Amulet at the last Grand Prix, but I wanted to build the Patron deck so bad for a while. It's just so crazy how it works on a different axis than the usual blue deck.
So, i've been playtesting a few Modern Horizon cards over the last few days and some of them are breathtaking. Fists of Flame was destined to break Zada, Hedron Grinder and it does, indeed. In a few rounds i came very close to decking myself when i played it.
The most pleasant surprise so far was Bazaar Trademage for Brago, King Eternal! It filters hard, can rake up damage and the times i was able to combine it with Sun Titan/Body Double/Karmic Guide were utterly disgusting. I am yet to revive it with Sun Titan, but being just another target for it is great.
On another note, i'm about to move in with a friend. The both of us have been living on our own for close to a decade each and feel like we need to change that. As we speak we're waiting for the final okay of our future landlord. For each of us coming from ~30 dull square meters, the upcoming 75 square meters total including a balcony with a view over the city will feel like heaven. Wish us luck, MTGSies!

I've seen budget decks that are only $80 (I plan to buy this deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-queen-of-pillow-fort/ ) this one says budget but the over all price tag is $310 https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/870617#paper I priced everything as cheapest version available on Cardkingdom

It'll find a home eventually, just hopefully before it gets reprinted and tanks in price.

It was either going into the dragon percon that has enter tapped lands or going into my new Zed enchantment deck....odds are it's going into Zedd
