Every time there's a time change I like the Florida proposal of just making DST permanent more.
I love when we fall back but hate the spring forward. Anytime I get an extra hour of sleep is a big thumbs up for me.
I'm the opposite. I prefer spring forward as it gives me an extra hour of daylight for golfing and softball (though it does make it light a little later for fishing).
And I agree with Weebo that I wish they would just make it permanent (with spring forward in effect). Does DST even serve a real purpose anymore (did it ever)?
I'm not a big fan of the first morning, but I get used to that pretty quickly. The extra hour of light in the evening is more than worth it IMO. I like having some daylight after work.

I remember hearing somewhere about it giving light for kids walking to school or something of that sort. No clue if that has any merit or truth though.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I've always been under the impression that it was somehow related to agriculture.
edit: In other news, Modern Horizons is potentially a really interesting set. There are quite a few interesting modern decks that feel like they're on the verge of playable already. A combination of some decent broad answers slowing things down and direct support for fringe strategies could make for a really fun format. There was also just an article pointing out that Three Visits could be a great fit here as well. If some of the choices are things like that, it could be nice for EDH availability as well. I'm hoping it's a good one and not a dud with a few chase cards.

It's the opposite of that though, daylight savings is the summer part of the split. And the effective difference is that instead of sleeping through an hour of daylight in the morning and losing that time in the evening, we get up closer to sunrise and go to sleep closer to sunset. In the winter, there's so little daylight hours you get them all by default, where if you shift in the summer, you get more daylight.

Zedruu: "This deck is not only able to go crazy - it also needs to do so."
From what I understood, it was.created to save energy during the World War. Now, the NHTSA says that it helps keep the number of accidents down. Whether that is causation or correlation is another story.
First Used in Canada in 1908
While Germany and Austria were the first countries to use DST in 1916, it is a little-known fact that a few hundred Canadians beat the German Empire by 8 years. On July 1, 1908, the residents of Port Arthur, Ontario, today's Thunder Bay, turned their clocks forward by 1 hour to start the world's first DST period.
Other locations in Canada soon followed suit. On April 23, 1914, Regina in Saskatchewan implemented DST. The cities of Winnipeg and Brandon in Manitoba did so on April 24, 1916. According to the April 3, 1916, edition of the Manitoba Free Press, Daylight Saving Time in Regina “proved so popular that bylaw now brings it into effect automatically”.
If you think Daylight Saving Time is a good idea, thank New Zealand scientist George Vernon Hudson and British builder William Willett. In 1895, Hudson presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society, proposing a 2-hour shift forward in October and a 2-hour shift back in March. There was interest in the idea, but it was never followed through.
In 1905, independently from Hudson, British builder William Willett suggested setting the clocks ahead 20 minutes on each of the 4 Sundays in April, and switching them back by the same amount on each of the 4 Sundays in September, a total of 8 time switches per year.
First Daylight Saving Bill
Willett’s Daylight Saving plan caught the attention of the British Member of Parliament Robert Pearce who introduced a bill to the House of Commons in February 1908. The first Daylight Saving Bill was drafted in 1909, presented to Parliament several times and examined by a select committee. However, the idea was opposed by many, especially farmers, so the bill was never made into a law.
Willett died in 1915, the year before the United Kingdom started using DST in May 1916. It is not known if he was aware that his idea had become a reality 7 years prior to his death in a small town in Ontario.
Benjamin Franklin, the Father of DST?
Many sources also credit Benjamin Franklin with being the first to suggest seasonal time change. However, the idea voiced by the American inventor and politician in 1784 can hardly be described as fundamental for the development of modern DST. After all, it did not even involve turning the clocks. In a letter to the editor of the Journal of Paris, which was entitled “An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light”, Franklin simply suggested that Parisians could economize candle usage by getting people out of bed earlier in the morning. What's more: Franklin meant it as a joke
An Ancient Idea
Although modern DST has only been used for about 100 years, ancient civilizations are known to have engaged in comparable practices thousands of years ago. For example, the Roman water clocks used different scales for different months of the year to adjust the daily schedules to the solar time.

Still convinced the guy on Beseech the Queen is wearing a Mitra-type hat. Wake up sheeple!
Played some EDH games yesterday for the first time in months. I had forgotten how much more fun this is than Arena.
Nice! That's better than my overall experience at FNM. Showed up to my LGS a little early, jammed a couple games of mid to high power EDH. I was playing Nissa Tribal against Tristani Discordant and Jodah, Archmage Eternal. You can probably already figure out how this went, but long story short the Jodah player crushed us both games. I had a deck in my bag that could have probably beat him, but then I didn't want to overpower everyone.
Afterward, I left and went to go eat dinner for a bit. Came back, and some other friends were in a 3 player game, with a fourth sitting at the table watching. I was going to get in on the next game, but decided to let the guy at the table take my spot as the fourth. Good thing I did, because their game took an hour and a half and resulted in two people decking themselves.
So, a friend of mine had his birthday on Sat and as every year he invited us all over to play for the last three days and it's been a blast.
I did realize two things though:
1) Body and mind are sturdy af.
Throughout the last 54 hours i amassed 33 hours of EDH and a Cube Draft, as well as 4 hours of a One Shot Pen & Paper thing.
2) I grow more bored of playing +3C decks. (playing against them is fine)
The last year or so i've been playing Alesha, Who Smiles at Death and Prossh, Skyraider of Kher less and less without an idea why. With ~80 different Commanders floating around i was able to try out decks like crazy. I've enjoyed mono decks since forever and 2C is always fun, but whenever i pick up and play (or just sift through) +3C decks i get bored quite easily. The card pool is just too perfect and therefor there are barely any sub-par or innovative includes.
I'm thoroughly considering scrapping my WBR and BRG decks in favor of a (W/B), (R/W), (B/R) and (B/G) deck each, to complete a full 2C set. (Playtesting(U/R)Keranos, God of Storms already) Aside from one color combination i have clear favs of what to build, too.
Anyways, i hope all of you had a great weekend, have a good start into the new week.

This has been me for several years now. I really enjoy having strengths and weaknesses in my decks rather than having a big pit of goodstuff that three color decks feel like they turn into. I think there are still some builds that force you out of the normal goodstuffs in 3+ color but in general I have a hard time with them unless the commander is really extreme.

I'm usually more interested in the general's abilities than the color composition with a few exceptions (like not wanting to play enchantress outside of minimum GW). I have a deep enough collection that manabase isn't a limiting factor, I can probably come up with a couple hundred cards I would like to play in any color combo, and I already skip a lot of staples voluntarily, so building around a more interesting creature or concept trumps color concerns. I've had times when all of my decks were mono and there are times like now where I have 2 3C, 1 2C, and one mono.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
I was getting burnt out really hard on EDH for a while, but I've recently found my new love for the format in the form of building tribal decks based around the 5 Origins Walkers. I've already built Nissa, Vastwood Seer, and I've started working on a list for Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh today.
They end up being really budget, so I can afford to build them and just carry them around to play during games where I don't feel like bringing out the big guns.
Man, its totally Monday morning. I rolled out of bed 10 minutes late and then I ended up zoning out while driving and taking a route that takes like 10 minutes longer to get to work because I started auto piloting my way to my LGS instead of work lol.

Definitely had those days. I'm excited to actually leave work at a reasonable time today. I've had crazy hours for the last couple weeks while a project wraps up.
