Went to prerelease, and scored bonus points with a friend's kid by paying for his entry as well(his first prerelease). He ends up pulling Nissa, Nature's Artisan and a promo Exquisite Archangel(THIS could be a d*** card to flash in when you're about to die in EDH...OY!).[/c].
Commander damage laughs at your resetting the game tactics......nice pulls however
My promo was Planar Bridge and I opened another foil Planar Bridge in a pack. Ended up in R/W vehicles and went 3-0-1. My 7 prize packs were mostly junk but I got the Mythic Demon. Favorite game was turn 3 Peacewalker Colossus into turn 4 Siege Modification.

Depending on how often this gets played in my groups, this might be the tipping point to bring commander damage back in(we'd house-ruled it out for the most part). Tournaments though, yeah...I don't see it being an all-star there. Though it may teach a newcomer or two a lesson...
Played in another prerelease today, there were only four players, so we did round robin, I went 3-0. I got a promo Paradox Engine, which I ran in my GW deck, which also included a foil Rishkar, Peema Renegade, two of the two-drop mana dork, two of the energy leopard, one of the energy rhino, some other energy cards and Felidar Guardian (which was good with the fabricate creatures and energy generators). As a sealed deck, it was pretty ridiculous. Among my prize packs, I got yet another Paradox Engine, making that three for the weekend (two foil), and Tezzeret.
Well I'm done with prereleases for ever. Spent way too much money and didn't get very much to show for it.
This is exactly how I feel.
Despite the impressive prize support I received for placing 3rd out of 71 players, I felt as though it wasn't worth my money whatsoever. Sets like Aether Revolt just aren't designed for Commander; they're designed for limited, and they're designed for Standard. I don't play Limited, and I don't play Standard, so why would I ever purchase your product Wizards? Sure, your sets are spiced with a few Commander playable cards here and there, but if I want those, I will just buy the singles. I'm not going to shred my wallet opening dozens of booster packs hoping to get the one, inexpensive card that I need. As Commander's popularity grows, I suspect more and more players will feel the way I do, that sets designed for Standard and Limited are unsatisfying for Commander players and lack a compelling reason to be purchased.

To be fair, players of the format know exactly what we want and it isn't shared among all players (outside of maybe the "staples", but even that term isn't applied to all players, at best most of us). The closest products that would appeal to us would be specifically prepackaged cards like Commander's Arsenal and FTVs and if it turns out you only need 2-3 specific cards out of the product, it'll still be cheaper to buy them as singles. Okay, bad examples since those two have notoriously bad print runs, but even the Commander Decks themselves are turning out to be this to those who played the format long enough, and those definitely have enough print runs.
Honestly, the one product I'll snap out for almost (if not) all the time is if they did a yearly "Commander's Arsenal" that featured the foil versions of all newly-created cards for the Commander Precons of that year.
I still choose to play Prereleases though mainly because I feel it's pretty much the most casual Limited event MTG has to offer me (FNM Drafts/Sealed still feel and are probably more competitive than Prereleases) and I do enjoy that from time to time (and since one happens about once every 3 months that's an okay rate with me). Even so, I no longer play as much as I used to (when I used to hang around for 4-5 Prerelease Pods, I now mostly only settle for at most 2, if not 1 just for fun). It doesn't help I'm also biased towards Prereleases among all events considering I started playing MTG by walking into 1 (with only a brief reading-through of the rules before that). Plus, you're guaranteed a foil rare/mythic and while it's substantially still worse than buying singles, it's still much better than buying boxes/other Limited events with no promos.
I would probably enjoy them more if I didn't suck at them so badly. Despite not opening any chase cards, I could very well be opening decent pools and not even know it.
I feel much differently than some of you do, about this set and about the prereleases. I love prereleases personally. They tend to be fun and not super-competitive, and the only formats I play other than EDH are various forms of limited (sealed, draft, etc.)
If one is playing really competitive EDH, then yeah, new sets are going to offer very few cards you're going to want, and the likelihood of you getting one at a prerelease is very slim (I have no explanation for my luck in snagging three copies of Paradox Engine). But if you're playing a less competitive version, I think this set and Kaladesh have both offered a lot of interesting stuff. Maybe not "best of the best," which is a hard standard to meet when you are comparing new cards to everything that's ever been released in the history of the game and isn't already on the banned list, but still playable.
Yeah... Competitive EDH is fun, although I think I walked into the tournament with more of a "okay, I haven't played since 2014 so I just want to see how far I could get." Both games I got to play I came in third. Which I'm okay with. During the first game I watched a Maelstrom Wanderer take 5 turns and basically blow out, but I survived after he killed the other players. At the other table some dude rage quit though; he started calling this other guy names and got super pissed because the guy kept calling him out on miscalling triggers. Ended up kind of putting a damper on the whole thing.
I haven't gone to a pre-release in ages. They can be fun, but I feel like I walk away more frustrated than happy.

If I were able to pull any sort of value from my packs then I would feel differently. I don't mean "Oh man I pulled double inventions and a foil Fatal Push", but at least getting something to lessen the cost of playing. But every single time I go to one I pull absolute crap while the people next to me can pay for the entire table's entry with their packs. Couple that with going 0-4 and I just cement the mentality that I should be supporting Wizards by supporting the secondary market.
i also lost all of my matches, one of them was due to me milling myself
Ouch. That sucks. I went to a sealed game years ago where that happened. But I pulled a Tamiyo, so I wasn't entirely bummed about it because I like her. But it sucks when you kill yourself like that, lol.
But as I don't like constructed outside of EDH and I only rarely can make it to the FNM drafts I really enjoyed getting to play.
Dark Intimations, Disallow, Trophy Mage, Reverse Engineer and Sly Requisitioner are all pretty good cards, though the Requisitioner is by far more niche than the others. I want Intimations for my Bolas deck, but haven't gotten one yet. That set of cards doesn't pay for the event, of course, bur since I love sealed, that's would still be fine for me. My bounty this weekend was exceptional; more often than not I get a few junk rares, a handfull of good uncommons and maybe 1-2 moderately okay cards. I also got a Freejam Regent, and he was a bomb in the first prerelease, but yeah, I don't think he'll ever see play again, either. He's not deckworthy in any constructed format ever.
I can understand the frustration if one doesn't pull much and really isn't into the sealed format, though.
I didnt go because the whole energy thing makes me puke. Also cars? Nah.
Energy was pretty fun. In the two headed giant tournament my daughter got to drop an Aetherwind Basker and then swing next turn with it as a 20/20. I also got to boost a Multiform Wonder to one-shot proportions thanks to a pair of Highspire Infusions.
Not bad all around, I think.

From two prereleases and two sets of prize packs, I snagged a promo Paradox Engine and a promo Heroic Intervention, two other copies of Paradox Engine (one foil), a Restoration Specialist, three copies of Renegade Rallier two copies each of Battle at the Bridge, Efficient Construction and Whir of Invention, four copies of Resourceful Return, Kari Zev's Expertise, Release the Gremlins, and a foil Rishkar, Peema Renegade. I consider all of those to be potentially playable EDH cards. The Restoration Specialist and Heroic Intervention have gone directly into decks already, I expect Rishkar might find his way into Atraxa, and I am considering which of my decks would most benefit from a Paradox Engine (Rhys the Redeemed is a given). The Rallier is great - put him down after saccing a fetchland or Strip Mine or something like that and get it right back into play. I also got Kari Zev and the new Tezzeret, but immediately traded them and a few other things I just got on Puca Trade.
