Yeah, I am not a fan of the conversations that happen in the main modern forum, but some of the individual deck primers have really good conversations. I tried over the past few weeks to read the state of the meta thread and stuff but it was just a bunch of people saying Twin needed to come back and a few people arguing other points and getting shot down by the Twin supporters.
Enchantress was a pet deck of mine back in the type 1.5 and early extended days. My personal favorite win was a soft lock with words of wind and then a rancor/Auratog loop. Good times. I was also slightly obsessed with Fluctuator combo, but that's another story.
Days later, I've run into several people talking about Fluctuator combo after hearing nothing about it for basically forever. It might be worth screwing around with just for the pet name Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (thanks to Bloated Toad, for anyone unfamiliar with the deck [everyone]).
I've realized that half the reason I don't post decklists here very often anymore is because my deckbuilding restrictions are ill-defined and bizarre for most people, so I rarely get feedback that I think is helpful. Case in point - I'm not running Sol Ring or Cyclonic Rift in my newest list because I don't want to play them, but I have Mana Drain and the full fetch/dual/shock manabase in there. I've also got the Saskia precon with about half a dozen nonland modifications, but a fully tricked out manabase. Does anyone else build decks like that?
Yeah, most of the non-U duals aren't going to see a price hike anytime soon.
You say that now. Just wait until enchantress rises from its ashes and starts cleaning up.
I'm willing to admit it won't actually happen (maybe if Earthcraft gets unbanned), but I'll always have a soft spot for that deck. It was my first legacy deck many years ago. Windswept Heaths for it were my first fetches and Taiga was my first dual, so I could run the Words of War kill. I can blame enchantress for starting me down the path to my current collection.
<3 Enchantress
That deck was similarly to blame for my own trajectory. It got me into Legacy and I still keep it built for the odd tournament here and there.
@MikePemulis: Yeah, I'm no longer active in it, but I harbour great affection for the cube community here. They're probably the most helpful and constructive community with whom I have interacted on the internet.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

I've been starting to get some alters done and it's really cool having unique cards to play with. I get a lot of compliments on all the ones I've done so far. If you dont mind me asking who are you using?

I have been using Dadsy Altars for my Mishra deck which is about 30% altared and I have been using Revelen's Light for my cube as they ebay a lot of extensions. However Gal is a a great altarist in addition.

OK cool I'll check them out. Is Gal still around? I hadn't heard from him in a while.
My exams were so late this year that I'm spending tomorrow flying. Blech. Wonder how terrible the Jersey airport is gonna be (relative to how it usually is, which is pretty damn terrible).
Ah Christmas that magical time of year where you can type "merry xmas all" into mtgo chat and the people just leave when you combo kill them instead of raging and stalling.
I'm spinning right now! I was gifted Masterpiece versions of Sol Ring, Mana Vault, and Mana Crypt this Christmas! I never thought I would own these cards!

Popped in to update my lists and see who is still around.
I take it Bacon isn't on very much anymore either?
I wanted to rant to someone about the tuck rule change.
No, I think he's faded off into the sunset like most of that Oregon crew.
Bummer, that. I feel like that playgroup kind of singlehandedly spurred on an interest in stax decks on the forums (c.f. Phil's guide).
As an aside, having been away for a while, it feels like things are less active in the Commander forum than they were a few years ago. It seems like posts used to fall off the first page within a matter of hours, while now they seem to linger for a few days. I'm sure the holidays are slower than the rest of the year, but still... Has there been something of a decrease in the popularity of Commander in general after the hype in 2012, 2014, etc? Or is it just in my head?

Some of it is holidays. I suspect the bigger reason is the shift away from forums as the preferred place to talk online in general. The MtG subreddit has ~1900 people on right now compared to ~1300 at MTGS, which is actually less of a difference than I was expecting. More anecdotally, I haven't noticed any drop in format popularity locally even if I don't get out to play as much as I used to.

Interesting I don't use reddit for anything. I suppose at 30 years old, the internet has passed me by, and I must now take up the mantle of crotchety old-fashioned guy (which, incidentally, I'm not too opposed to shouldering).

I'm right there with you. I've been browsing reddit occasionally recently, mostly because of a lack of activity on this site, and the format still doesn't do a lot for me. It works out for some of the smaller threads and it's OK for side conversations, but anything popular just turns into people talking past each other.
