It's that damn Pokemon Go. I don't even know what it is other than it's everywhere.
I’ve been pushing my gaming group (not MTG group, that is a different one though there is one shared member other than me) to play DND for a while now since we’re primarily playing board games. One of the guys had never played a DND style RPG before so we settled on the old Star Wars RPG since the mechanics were pretty simple. My other friend was the GM for our first session. We decided to use the premade plot for beginners. There were some rules oddities that came up (why is throwing a grenade so complicated?!) as well as plot complications, like having our small group fight a hoard of bounty hunters we couldn’t reasonably beat, but overall I thought it went OK. The guy that never played an RPG thought it didn’t go so smooth and wanted to try the newer Star Wars RPG specifically for beginners (Edge of the Empire I think) and wanted me to be the GM for it (presumably because I’m awesome). We had our first session last weekend and despite none of us having read anything, even the core rules, it was surprisingly smooth. It had premade characters and walked through the rules as they came up. Now they’re wanting to do the full game with characters they design which is fine for them but now I have to slog through a 260 page rule book. :/
I played one of the Star Wars RPGs with some roommates for about 2 weeks many years ago. Someone convinced the GM to let them have a lightsaber that basically shot fireballs. There may have been some balance issues there. It really has nothing to do with the game and everything to do with the GM being way too willing to go along with some of the ideas (I hope).

I walked 38KM in 1 week playing this game... I started last week Monday and I am already lvl 18.
That's pretty cool and I like that people are getting exercise from it but it's not for me. My recliner is too comfortable and I have a car if I need to go anywhere. Plus they have holiday cube drafts on MTGO so I have no spare time.

Honestly, I had never played a pokemon game before this and I probably would not play any of the old ones because of this game. I did however always tell myself I wish I could get up early and go out for a walk / run and this gives me a little more incentive to do that. I get very very bored when I just work out and I dislike gyms. This is a good alternative where I am being entertained while I get myself into better condition.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I would love to play more Pokemon Go, but man, the last week every time I step outside I begin to melt and die. It's been awful recently as far as the heat goes.

But this is also true.
I'm almost at level 20 and I've probably only walked around 5 miles legitimatly.i have started going on a LOT more test drives at work though.
So tonight I went out and ran a few miles on the trails at the park by my house because there were a bunch of Pokestops there. Trail running is surprisingly fun, and I may actually start doing it more frequently. I just have to tell myself that I'm not running, I'm hatching eggs and hunting Pokemon.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

I can't draft the Holiday Cube anymore - it's breaking my heart.
I'm either drafting sweet brews that get wrecked by the big mana deck (I have died to Craterhoof Behemoth just about every time), or I'm trying to draft the big mana deck and it's not there, and my deck sucks.

Try to force a somewhat aggressive blue strategy every draft. Obviously you first pick moxes over everything (on color or not) but after that take blue over everything unless it’s very archetype specific (Brain Freeze, High Tide, etc). And I do mean everything. Pestermite isn’t a very good card, I would rather not play it in my deck but it could make it as one of my last playables. I’d still p1p1 it over Mind Twist, Lightning Bolt, Balance and Sylvan Library. Once there are no playable blue cards in the pack that could possibly make your deck, and this includes even things like Porcelein Legionnaire, off color signets or even semi playable artifacts you’ll probably cut, then look for you second color which will hopefully be a splash. I rate the secondary colors in order of quality as White, Green, Red, Yellow, Purple, Black. As a general rule you never want a third color but if you happen to grab a couple fixers in packs that had no playables then splashing 1-2 broken cards is fine. Black is borderline unplayable, to make it simple never ever play black unless you draft Mind Twist and then play as little black as possible. With this strategy you should routinely crush the big mana deck.
I have a vastly different draft strategy for Legacy cube, except that black is even worse and Mind Twist is banned so I will not play black for any reason.

I'll give it a shot this weekend and get back to you. Thanks for the tips, mate.
So last night I decide to be social and go to a Commander Tournament. Things were going well until I decided to go to the counter to buy a drink, when a kid no older than 15 asked if he could borrow some money to buy a drink. I said sure, how much money do you need?
He said Treefiddy.
Well, at this time I noticed that the 15 year old kid smelled incredibly badly and had scales, so I'm all like "GOD DAMN GITROG MONSTAH! I AIN'T GOT NO TREEFIDDY FOR YOU! GO GET YOUR OWN MONEY!"

Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
ended up winning a commander pod after some interesting lines of play by my opponents.
I played Sharuum, to my left was Oloro, Lazav, Dimmir Mastermind across from Oloro then Rhys the Redeemed acroos from me. I beleive I was last in the turn cycle.
Lazav had a reasonably sized Consuming aberration and jace memory adept with almost enough counters to ult on it in play for about one turn cycle. Oloro player had a platinum angel in his grave i believe and casts a Sharuum of his own but gets a burnished heart instead of the angel. He passes to Lazav, who chooses to not attack, ticks up his Jace so he can ult next turn, takes an extra turn, mills everyone alot with the aberration. Still chooses to not attack me (even though I had nothing to stop him from killing me. Cashes in his Jace. (at that point, I believe I just needed a third piece to combo, which the Jace drew me. Taps all but 2 of his mana for a mind grind fo4 4 I believe. Passes to Rhys, who was able to turn 6 tokens into 12 at Lazav's EOT. Cats something I don't remember, then an overrun, swinging at Lazav and Oloro. They scurry to save themselves, as he was attacking for 100 or so. Oloro barely saves himself by blocking and casting a mortify. Lazav twincasts the mortify and blocks to hang on by the skin of his teeth. At this point, the whole table is practically tapped out except for oloro having 2 mana, which led me to just wanna combo off. So on my turn, I tell people how much mana I have and show phyrexian metamorph and bitter ordeal and asked if everyone knows what I'm doing, which they don't. I explain it and everyone gets salty
