Oh god, I was looking in the Water Cooler and Debate forum, not in here.
Gross.
EDIT: I just read it. I don't want to internet anymore.
Yup. Just when you find a decent conversation someone has to much it up.
I really want people to realize how bad that new Eldrazi is, but I seem to be having a hard time with that. So, I will take a step back and realize that this is the conversation that happens every month or so and that I'm too old to be wasting my time on this site.
The only Steampunk stuff I've read were The Difference Engine (which I read because William Gibson co-wrote it), and some book that involved humans living sided by side with insect people. It has a cute conciet about everything being run on the potential energy contained within better and better springs. There was a clockwork female pleasure automoton too. Can't remember the name. I liked it, but not enough to go further in the series.
I find I am not all that interested in Victorian Europe as a model for a setting, even when it has lots of gears and clockwork. Recently the only thing like that I can think of that I enjoyed was the setting for Legend of Korra, and that is more quasi-Asian steampunk.

You know you keep coming back though. You would miss us too much not to come here
In general though I agree with your assessment of the new eldrazi. Its just sort of... ok. Its an interesting mechanic though but it needs to be in a specific deck. On average most decks will be hitting like 1/3 lands so you probably get just over one land per activation on average assuming they arent super ramping lands from deck.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Right. And when we say that a card isn't good enough that's not to say it's bad. It's saying "this card has competition from thousands of other cards for one of only 60 slots in a deck and it just doesn't muscle out the other cards."
I really want people to realize how bad that new Eldrazi is, but I seem to be having a hard time with that.
It's a cute play after Bojuka Boging or Angel of Finalitying someone, but it strains the boundaries of being mythic; a unique ability and a limited bomb, sure, but otherwise not that impressive. I'd almost rather Dreamstone Hedron for the guaranteed mana and potential card draw. But EDH is not the format for otherwise vanilla bodies.

I suspect it will be overplayed and over hyped at release and most will put it away from 90% of decks that it gets slotted in for testing. I think its sort of cool but I also don't think it fits any decks I have together currently.

Yeah, I am mainly disappointed that its a mythic, and that they chose it as the face card for the Duel Decks.
Doesn't inspire me with much hope for the new crop of Eldrazi.
They're all a bunch of weirdos though, so we will see.

We are a heck of a long ways from this set releasing so they might still be tuning other cards and just went with something that was ready to be revealed this far out. We are still two months out and while I suspect a lot of their stuff is probably where its going to be now they probably have to make a decision as to what they are going to show several weeks beforehand as well so these super early reveals have to be things they are confident they can release as is.
I suspect we will still be seeing several legendary eldrazi still yet to come. Remember the non legendary eldrazi from last time? Most of them were only so so as well. This one probably could have been a rare given its power but I dont really think it will be an issue as there is likely not going to be a big clammor for these guys from the constructed formats standpoint so the price should still be affordable.
My favorite Steampunk is Wild Wild West with Will Smith.
I'm never quite sure with you, but there is a little charm to the movie even though it is more than a little stupid. Everything I have seen Will Smith in I have at least liked him in (no, I did not see the one with his son). I'm one of the few people that I have heard of that actually likes most of Hancock.

No, this set likely went to press 6 months ago, so there is no more tweaking to be done. MaRo has said a few times on his tumblr that a set is started in design about 16 months from when it is released. 10 months for design and development to get things done and layed out with artwork sounds about right to me, and 6 months for prepress, approval, press, and packing millions of cards at their two facilities seems about right. Of course, the card that is in the duel deck is not printed by carta mundi, but it still has the same lead time.

I actually really liked Hancock... I felt like you could really relate with his character being different from everyone else and not knowing who or where he is from.

I really enjoyed the beginning of the movie. It was a fantastic antihero story. It wasn't about the glamor of being a hero, but the beginnings of a friendship.
...then the second half rolled around and we got the old-school love triangle and fighting because we can treatment. The ending numbed most of the beginning, but I still will catch the start to Hancock if it's ever on.

This is how I felt as well; the first half of Hancock was the best superhero movie we had (At that point) I felt, and then the second half came around and it just got decidedly....... less fun.

Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
Hancock has some big things wrong with it, but for me they don't detract from the fun of the film. I really only feel like it fails at the very end by wrapping up a character conflict that could be really good, but was used to wrap up a movie in 15 minutes. I wouldn't call the turn in the movie a real love triangle, because there is little genuine affection between Will and Charlize. I like that the movie didn't completely ignore his origin, but it could have tied into his behavior better. I don't actually think that his personality at the beginning of the movie is unbelievable given what his nature is, but the writers didn't do a good job of making it tie in very well. I think one of the things that went wrong at the end was the whole "angel" element. It is too big for a throw-away moment at the end of a movie.

This was the first thing I thought too. It makes me want to Hive Mind a Doomsday just to cast this.
I've been mentally making a Jhoira of the Ghitu deck that will be part chaos part smash face. For some reason I don't feel bad about the chaos magic part...

That's fair. It's not a staple, but it's definitely got a slot in Oona or Animar.

I would rather have a set contain 20 new cards that can serve a good niche role in one or two decks than 1 card which becomes a format staple. The less Wizards can do to further homogenize the format, the better.
EDIT: I was reading through your arguments Gals and now I want to make a Kyoki, Sanity's Eclipse deck.

On the new Eldrazi, I am interested as it will be a great card in my Circu, Dimir lobotomist deck as its basically a fate-seal deck but Yeah I'm with Cryo in that I hope we get a ton of niche cards over 1 or 2 staples.

In my experience it best to keep Jhoira in your mental space. Suspended, if you will.
