I loved the chrome paint they would spray on their mouths. I found it really amusing.
It made me think of why I hate 95% of all new movies. You can tell how commercialized they are. You can watch the movie and be like "This scene serves this purpose", or "this person exists to do this". There is nothing extra. No added magic. Nothing unexplained, left to the watcher. I feel like I'm reading formulas. Mad max was different. If it was like the other movies, someone would have asked at one point what Valhalla was. Someone would have explained why they do the hand symbol. Why chrome, why the steering wheels, why they seem so eager to off themselves, who every character was.
I feel like movies cater to the dolts that need everything explained, who can't stand a movie without a happy ending, and Mad Max didn't.
I liked it cause it didn't pretend I had a type of learning disability.
One of the few problems I had with mad max fury road:
The women they picked up in the desert they really just used as cannon fodder. I sort of looked back on them and it was sort of like... they picked up these people and then proceeded to kill all of them. I really felt like their only real purpose was to show that the bad guys weren't completely incompetent.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Yup. Solid addition to the Mad Max saga. Can't wait for the next one.
That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard you say. It wasn't an addition to some tried and true movie series - it was reinventing almost to the point of apologizing for how terrible the first and third were. The second is good low budget post apocalyptic 80s fare, but 1 and 3 were steaming piles of *****. Fury Road wasn't part of the old trilogy except in name and aside from Road Warrior I think that "saga" could get buried and forgotten about forever.
When I first saw Fury Road (can't wait for Furry Road XXX) I was not impressed because of how huge and loud it was. I was looking for it to add to the old ones and those required a certain amount of grit and filth to work. This one was so clean and pretty, so I felt like we lost something. But, after a couple days I found myself really digging how it was its own thing that did a good job on its own. I heard people say that it lacked plot, but now feel like those people just couldn't connect the dots - there was plot pouring out of its ears. It just didn't have to do with Max. And making it the most pro-feminist movie I've seen in a long time was interesting. A franchise that used to use women as sex pets really got it right this time. The fact that the movie's main character wasn't even Max.... hahahah!
Anyway, I just finished tattooing two really hot German airline stewardesses who were in town on work. One was delightfully playful and fun. The other, a stereotype of "German."

Seriously? I thought that the original Mad Max films were awesome. I liked their take on a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and was incredibly entertaining. No, it wasn't a masterpiece of acting or filming, but the world that they created was pretty darn interesting. That sort of world has been the go-to replication for many post-apocalyptic scenarios. I mean hell, Borderlands is literally Mad Max: The Video Game.
So when I saw Fury Road, I was prepared to watch something akin to Mel Gibson's Max. That's not what we got. We got a far more badass Max. Critics have called Fury Road "one long action sequence" and by Valhalla I was entertained by it. It dispensed with a lot of the bull***** present in far too many films these days, and even gave us a more human War Boys. A huge salute to the lack of product placement. Terminator, Jurassic World, and the latest Michael Bay transformers crap were all guilty of entirely too much blatant advertising that didn't add to the film in anyway. The only bit that might have made practical sense was Jurassic World's naming of their "Samsung Innovation Center" but I digress.
Yes, this Max was cleaner than past Max's. But that's not necessarily bad. As long as a film can portray a world with heart, I'm down. I was hooked the moment Max captured and ate the two headed lizard. Even just that would never fly in PC bull***** world. Hell, Max handled the Wives better than expected, considering the amount of ultrafeminist backlash I'm sure they got.
I enjoyed this Max. It's the first film since Interstellar than made me want to see it in theaters again.

Tantarus: It didn't make the gaka greifer level, so it should be fine
Should I try to go see mad max? I've not seen the old trilogy but I keep hearing good things from younger people and older (50+) saying it was awful and offensive.
And making it the most pro-feminist movie I've seen in a long time was interesting. A franchise that used to use women as sex pets really got it right this time. The fact that the movie's main character wasn't even Max.... hahahah!
Hell, Max handled the Wives better than expected, considering the amount of ultrafeminist backlash I'm sure they got.
So it's both anti-feminist and offensive to ultrafeminists.
I hate how much some marketing committee attached gender politics to this movie when it had no more gender politics to it than Terminator or Alien - hell, probably less, since it had damsels in distress. It was just a good action movie. I really wish this era of exploitative gender politicking clickbait would end.
I also gotta disagree with Gals about the first and third Mad Max being *****. The first was a very different movie from the rest of the series, but that didn't make it bad and the third was a trainwreck of a good and a bad movie being shoved into one screenplay, but everything in Thunderdome was great.
If I find something online that falls under a Creative Commons - Attribution - Share Alike license, can I get it off the web and sell it to a local store? It's a game supply thing that I can print on my 3D Printer.
Each individual thing would cost me about $0.80 to make, so I'd probably sell them for a dollar each if it matters.

Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
The thing is, I couldn't even see the feminism in the movie. It doesn't help that 95% of the feminism you see online, or that I see in real life, is actually just neo-nazis hating on men (I love how their counter to "not every guy is bad" was not "that's right" but rather "This is offensive to all the women who have to interact with guys". And the twitter hashtag #killallmen became a thing (can you imagine if there was a #*r-word*allwomen? People would have been killed. I am also of the opinion that murder is worse than rape.) So, compared to online and university feminism, this was just common sense. No man hating, and no "these people are better for being women".
@abovedude I do think you should see Mad Max. I decided to see the first 3 before watching it in theaters, but gave up after the first one (which I didn't finish, I might go see the second now that I hear it's good). The only thing relating to the first is that the actor that plays the villain is the same in both. Also, you'd know that his family is dead, which is fairly obvious in Mad Max Fury Road anyways.
It was so good, I'm scared of what they'll do with the second.
That thread makes no sense to me. I feels very much like a "does god exist" thread. I don't imagine anything new has been brought up in the past few years, but people still go about it.

Did anything ever come of it?
Yes and no. Even though the RC won't ever directly listen to anything anyone says, they do lurk that thread so they're aware of the various complaints and arguments. And I maintain that some very well made arguments about Metalworker influenced his unban, until someone from the RC tells me otherwise.
That thread is really just pure comedy to me, and that's probably why most of my posts there are totally unhelpful. Then again almost all my posts are totally unhelpful.
