TIL: Galspanic spends his day watching the people who frequent American Apparel.
The view from my d so at work is the side of an AA with big windows. There's also a parked my spot for one of those Zip Ride cars and an intersection that's the most Portland place in Portland. But AA is where the hot action is.
I just had a tattoo consult with a guy who wants a sleeve of Dr Who, mtg, Nintendo, Fallout, etc. he was blown off by other local artists... :O. This is a dream tattoo for me and those other artists are dumb.
Once again I'm sitting at work watching the American Apparel across the street getting shoplifted. Normally it's 2-5 young black girls but today it's 2 white hippies who looked high as **** when they took off. From what I can tell, you walk in, load your arms with clothes, walk towards the door, and run. American Apparels don't have cameras as a policy and they don't pursue. Idiots.
Why include the race, presumed gender, age, and class of the shoplifters in your story? What does it add to your narrative?
People tend to include details when they want to have the story be more easily related to or to allow for a visual representation of what happened. It tends to happen often in stories.
Race age sex, and class are all interesting factors when looking at crimes. He assumes gender because it's ok to assume what 95+% (probably more) of human beings are.
I could do without folks relating to tropes of people of African descent committing crimes. Stories I find good use details because they matter. (Mysteries, with their red herrings, get a pass here.) As originally posted, I hardly see how the assumption of physical characteristics mattered for Galspanic's story of the shoplifters.
Did someone really ask Moxnix to spell correctly? Why include the race, presumed gender, age, and class of the shoplifters in your story? What does it add to your narrative?
No matter what people want others to think, race, sex, age, and class are incredibly descriptive and are great ways to describe things. People being butthurt shouldn't change that.
Using race, sex, age, and class to describe things can also be a great way to perpetuate oppression. People being myopic doesn't change that.
Did someone really ask Moxnix to spell correctly? Why include the race, presumed gender, age, and class of the shoplifters in your story? What does it add to your narrative?
Texture mostly. Without it, the story has no mental image. "A small gathering of individuals that appeared to be human.... but one can't say for sure without asking, but asking violates their rights to privacy and may be offensive to individuals who do not identify as humans." See, at some point you sort of just have to add flavor.
There are plenty of ways to add flavor to your story without falling back on race, sex, age, and class.
But it's important to understand that in this part of town if you see a group of black female teenagers there is a 90% chance they are shoplifting from American Apparel. That isn't to say anything except that it's a very white touristy part of town and there's only been 2 black female teenagers I've seen from my perch that weren't shoplifting. It sucks because the time I caught the girls on tape doing it, it started with me telling my coworker how *****ty it was that the only time we see black people on our street they are boosting from AA. And then, 30 seconds later I see her purse a dress. Like, COME ON!!! Yesterday though, it was sort of fascinating watching people that are not the stereotypical AA thief getting in on the action. Today I had this terrible thought that even Shoplifting from American Apparel might be getting gentrified.
This is just one of many reasons why I you, Galspanic. I'm still laughing.
It never ends well. That being said, it's never ended well any time I've boned anyone, so that might not be real reason... except you do have to see them all the time afterwards.
Coworkers have been somewhere around 75% of the women I've boned. I'd like to say I've learned my lesson, but I'll probably do it again.
I feel really weird using the verb "bone" since it doesn't commonly show up in my vocabulary, but far be it from me to change the pre-established conversational terminology. Bone.
The trouble with it is you directly interact with everyone regularly
Yolo. If your actually interested do it. If your just looking for casual sex and lazy you can always use tender. So I guess the question becomes how much do you want it ;).
Yeah I much prefer stories with absolutely no descriptions of characteristics. Then my mental image can be crash test dummies stealing overpriced jeans......
As for inter-office romance it depends on the company stance and how much you value your job. In my retail years I had a lot of buddies who treated work like a dating service. That can actually work out pretty well if you don't mind getting canned.

I have a service desk tech that I'm pseudo responsible for who has done this to a number of customers, so I feel your pain. I usually have to drop whatever project I'm on to help someone with a workstation that's essentially useless. I would make you local admin if I could, I swear.

I recovered some stuff and got my team lead to send me the default password that had been in an old email. I got my email recovered too apparently I was missing some pathing stuff I forgot about as I always have it save my info.
I find it amusing that people in this day and age perceive a clinical description of a person that includes age, race, or gender to be oppression.
I'm not amused by folks' perceptions of oppression. I'm moved to action to address them, not dismiss them.
Using the following definition of "clinical" (from Dictionary.com), "extremely objective and realistic; dispassionately analytic; unemotionally critical," I find nothing clinical about assumptions of age, race, or gender. Assumptions of gender are oppressive. Misgendering someone is oppressive. Race is not clinical by any means. The construct itself is often oppressive.
If we want to identify the parts of our society that need the most help or social focus, we can't do that without identifying the groups through some means.
In this situation, Gals made several observations that led to him saying mostly black girls stole from AA. He didn't make a racist remark or demean them for the color of their skin, he just cited a trend.
I don't think Galspanic made a racist remark or demeaned anyone in their post (aside from the American Apparel employees referred to as "idiots"). If I thought that, I would have stated it clearly and emphatically and reported it immediately.
The only trend Galspanic cited was the trend of their own observations. I do not think their observations were clinical. I do think, however, that reporting their non-clinical observations in this particular context contributes to a societal trend of racism and prejudice against "black girls."
Does this mean all blacks are criminals our predisposed to lawbreaking? No. It means they've been pushed down for hundreds of years and told they were scum until many of them saw no alternatives to a life of crime, and this bred a criminal culture.
Huh. How does this apply to white-collar crime? Were corporate executives historically "pushed down"? Are their six- and seven-figure incomes not enough to deter them from a life of crime?
They didn't choose to be the poorest demographic, it was forced on them. This is why they make up a majority of American prisoners and welfare recipients--they are victims of three hundred year old racism.
Perhaps it's racism and institutional oppression that leads to the disparities in the prison industrial complex. And again, if you're going to use words like "majority" for "facts" like these, please cite your sources.
About Moat: Yeah, it gets played in Legacy, decks like Solitaire (Mono-W lockdown with Moats, Humilities etc.)

What's everyone's stance on boning coworkers?
I've been without for for so long, but ever since the UI update that ugly white cutout has been in the way, so I decided to spice things up a bit.
I couldn't decide if I wanted a Norin-focused pic or going by the theme of other forums, a food picture.
So I compromised and did both.

"What's everyone's stance on boning coworkers?"
Okay... Whatev--*Pfffffffffft*
If they are your boss or vice versa: NO GO
If you have to interact with them regularly: NO GO
If they are in a different department and interaction professionally is minimal: By all means if they are into to it.

Using the above definition of "political correctness" I think my point is made.
As for charges of "self-defeating," I welcome examples of this backed up by journalistic sources with a minimum of bias.
Agreed. I do think, however, that reporting their non-clinical observations in this particular context contributes to a societal trend of racism and prejudice against "black girls." I advocate for the use of clinical information to help "black girls" in this particular context. If you're to make statements about a "fact" such as this, please cite your sources. Committing a crime isn't the same as being charged for one. Huh. How does this apply to white-collar crime? Were corporate executives historically "pushed down"? Are their six- and seven-figure incomes not enough to deter them from a life of crime?
Bye, Felicia. Perhaps it's racism and institutional oppression that leads to the disparities in the prison industrial complex. And again, if you're going to use words like "majority" for "facts" like these, please cite your sources. How do I address the trend I observed for your tendency to make arguments I deem illogical?
