Stifling an LED is as close to heroin as I'll ever get.
So I was playing Spanish Inquisition, the turn-one kill storm deck in legacy, against Doomsday combo. He has basically no way to do anything to me barring a turn 1 discard effect, or a silence mid-combo, but his opener of Usea - made both of those options bad. Basically, unless he brainstorms into a one-of force or something, I win, right?
So I go, and am pretty wary about what he might have. I try to bait out any interaction, and decide to play around daze. I don't know what this guy is running. Go for my first draw spell, and he lets it through. Okay, I guess he doesn't have any counters? Tentatively go all-in on another D4, and he lets it go. Ok, I guess I win. LED -> Infernal Tutor, crack LED. OK?
Yup.
Sure thing. Storm count 11, Tendrils of Agony. I'm all ready to shake his hand for a wonderfully played game, when he decided it's time to tap that Usea and reveal the SOLE COUNTERSPELL IN HIS DAMN DECK .... Flusterstorm.
I've never come so close to flipping the table. I did, however, knock over my chair in my shock and awe of standing.
Like, seriously? Mainboard Flusterstorm? One-of? In Doomsday? And he HAS IT?
Damn it.

With two game shops running events all weekend, and this my first weekend off since I had been running my entire division's IT solo (my partner was on vacation) I went whole hog on Origins and did FIVE events (two sealed, two draft, and a 2HG sealed)
All Sealed events I did this weekend, I went Green, mostly because I needed two Nissas for EDH.
Sealed #1 had Nissa's Revelation as my seed foil, and while I did bag a Languish in this pool, I had almost no other black, and the only other notable rares were two Thopter Spy Networks..which I really couldn't play because I only opened two Veteran's Armaments for other artifacts, and ZERO guys (even in red!) that poop Thopters. I cobbled together a low-curve Green/White midrange deck (since I opened two Celestial Flares and three Suppression Bonds.) For a deck that played zero rares, I managed to go 4-2 and got two packs for my trouble.
2HG Sealed has me and my partner picking Green and White, respectively (he was gonna go black, but our midnight prerelease took ALL the black boxes in one fell swoop.) This time, I managed to craft a pretty good green/red deck with rares like Ma and Pa Nalaar and Evolutionary Leap, while my partner had a RIDICULOUS black/white enchantress deck with Kytheon, Kothophed, and a bunch of different low-cost enchantments. We went 2-1 and bagged 2 packs.
Draft #1 opened with a Graveblade Marauder, which had me going straight down the Black/Red Aggro/Sacrifice deck. My notable picks were a Jace, two Insatiable Bloodlusts, three Boggart Brutes and two Macabre Waltzes (which are absolutely incredible in this deck.) I finished 2-0 and split for first in the last round, earning seven packs.
Sealed #2 saw Gaea's Revenge as my seed foil, as well as a Nissa and an Archangel of Tithes. Since I also managed to open a full playset of Rhox Maulers in my pool, I went Green-White again and went 3-1, getting two packs. One of them had Kytheon in it.
Draft #2 began with a snap pick of Embermaw Hellion, and when it looked like White was pretty open, I went Red/White with some Topan Freeblades and random enchantments like Grasp of the Hieromancer. Despite that choice ultimately damning me when I found out the player two seats to my right was drafting the same color deck, I still managed to squeeze out a 2-1 record (losing to that same player who just barely squeezed past me) and ending on a sour note, earning absolutely nothing.
Overall, I'm really liking this set for Limited. It's cool that there's a lot of different "safe" archetypes to build around, but also holds an element of risk + reward in those "all-in" dual-pair uncommons. Very excited for the draft mondays ahead.

I believe there was an era where it was possible, although it would have been with Interdict I imagine. If not I'm a cheater and I can live wit that.
Could be. I don't really know the history of LED. Someone tried to Stifle one on camera at the GP a couple weeks ago (after naming it with Pithing Needle), which turned out about as well as you would expect.

Wait, you can Stifle a fetchland, but no LED, because the first one gives you mana via lands (as intended in this game) and the last one gives you mana? Yeah...

A fetch's ability is an Activated Ability. These are good to stifle. You're getting a land, you're not using the fetch for mana.
LED's ability is a mana ability - it's an ability that gives you mana. It just so happens that the cost for it is to discard your whole hand.

Yes, you are paying for the cost (something you do in order to use the ability in the first place) in order to tap it for mana (uncounterable mana ability). What I still don't get is how you can tap it for mana, use that mana to cast a spell in your hand, then discard your hand as part of the payment.

You don't. Or else you'd be seeing double LED -> Ad Naus.
You cast the spell, utilizing the mana from whatever other sources. Only then can you activate LED, it's a mana ability with a unique timing restriction, and a cost that happens to be the loss of your hand.

Well that makes a lot more sense now.

On that note, what makes fetches so significant that they are included in the title? ER wouldn't tell me.

It's a bit more Top reliant than some other DD decks. There is a sacland doomsday list that's pretty good for learning how to play the style.
Basically it tells you what type DD you're playing.

That is clear to me rule-wise. But I still want to see someone cracking a fetch to get a land that doesn't produce mana...

I'm pretty sure, with the current crop of fetches, that that is impossible. Every one of them either looks for a "basic land" or a land with one or more specific land types, and every card with either of those qualities has implicit mana-producing abilities.
