One major thing I can see that The Great Aurora has against it is I can spend the same amount of mana to actually end the game.
This is why you are wrong. If you can spend 9 mana at sorcery speed and have an overwhelming enough board to statistically come out on top when it resolves.... WHY THE **** ARE YOU RESETTING THE BOARD?! If you have that much mana and that many permanents you can win the game. Why dink around with it? That's why this is a $.75 card.
There are a bunch of cards in Origins like this though... internally conflicted.

'Cos it's fun!
Seriously, though, TGA lets someone win in silly ways on their terms. T&N bores me to tears.

I would never compare the two because they are so clearly not the same thing, but I guess I would just say that at least TnN is a huge splashy spell that for 9 mana moves the game ahead. TGA may or may not. Also TGA rewards you for wrathing your own board... that's ****ed.
Well I'm off to prerelease. My preparation has been "I'm going to play this color because I want to pull this one card" so my expectations are pretty high. I think I went 1-3 last time I did one of these. Pretty high bar.

It's a silly card but if Krenko has Warp World to play around with then why not Rhys. Add to that it shuffles away the Kruphix player's carefully tinkered out, indestructible board and the major downside is really just that it's nine freaking mana.
So far I'm 1-0. I may drop in order to secure a winning record.
Better plan; go into each match and sing the "I'm too sexy" song, and at the end of it, rather than saying "I'm too sexy for this song" sing "I'm too sexy for this game!" and allow your opponent to realize (s)he cannot compete. (S)He will concede.

Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
Ended up 2-1, won two packs. My pool way horrible monetarily, with that mythic Archive being the best card. Still waiting for the round to end so I get my prize packs. Those will probably be *****ty as well because that's how I roll.
I'm not a fan of Tooth and Nail in general. Having the rug pulled out from under you at the last possible second when you have the last opponent dead on board and they manage to find TnN just in time to put Trisk and Mikaeus in play isn't fun. It's a part of the game, sure, but it's not a fun one. At least not for everyone not casting Tooth and Nail at that exact moment.
The man even had Sudden Spoiling to counter when I tried to stop him by flipping Den Protector, returning Eladamri's Call to my hand, and using that to find Aven Mindcensor. Such a feel bad.

I was right. Most of the cards are going for 100-300 points on pucatrade so I'm better off just sitting on them. The little I could lose might be a pote tial decent gain.

You need to do what I do at every pre-release, and go purely for ties. Draft the derpiest, slowest possible deck you can, and screw up the standings as much as possible.
I hope they don't ban The Great Aurora. That will make me very sad. I still miss Worldfire and I find TGA a lot more interesting. Plus, I built my first ever deck around it.
It has zero chance of getting emergency banned. It has as close to near zero chance as possible of ever getting banned.

Yeah, I think that even *I* would start to lose faith in you guys if you banned it.
You know what a nine mana mass reset that advances the board state says to me?
Ban me..!
Dude, you can't just mess up a two hour long game like that. It's not cool. We spent so much time sitting on our thumbs and this one guy comes along and spends only nine mana and just ruins it all. I mean, come on - I was clearly going to win next turn until this happened and now someone else won.

I hate it when I would have won if only I drew that on card but I didn't and that other guy totally won instead. We should ban that.
The life loss makes all the difference. That and PUTTING LANDS INTO PLAY.
Too easy.

I think if he's being a good player and using Sudden Spoiling to counter a morph, that's cool in my book.
