I actually understand that. There was a year that my parents were both out of work and bed ridden with the flu and a broken foot. So it was just me (3 years) and my sister who was 1 at the time. my parents were near broke and They got me some baby legos (not duplos but the big legos) at the time and What I wanted that year was a plastic basketball. I remember going to bed that night excited to see what Santa would bring. I got up before the sun was up and dragged my dad downstairs to open gifts. That year I got a 30 dollar basketball hoop from Santa set up in the living room. And this little plastic hoop made my year. As I look back I think about it and that cheap gift made me happier than any other year when my parents would spend a lot more money on each of us.
Being able to see that joy in my little sister today is why I love this holiday. And I now understand why my mom says that was her favorite Christmas. its not the gifts but the joy on kids faces from the gifts of "Santa" that make the holiday for parents and I've starting to see it for myself now and I'm sorry you missed that this year. I hope your kids understand how meaningful these gifts are in the future.

And that was my train back to memory town. Man those feels.

Right. I doubt they will think much of the gifts one way or another but when I sat them down and explained how much I love Christmas and why I think they understood that I wasn't mad, just really disappointed because this is something I've been looking forward to for a while. Because I am the disciplinarian I think they are sort of numb to me reprimanding them, so I had to try a different tact.
Me: Do you remember how excited you were when you tore off the paper and saw that we got you the now discontinued Jabba's Palace to put on your Rancor Pit you saved up for 4 months to get?
Him: Yeah.
Me: Well, I knew you were going to be so happy and excited too and I was really looking forward to it. Instead I woke up to your mom yelling at you to go back to bed. I didn't get to share that with you this year and it just sort of makes me sad.
Him: Oh...

I think he got it - that it was supposed to be a shared experience - but I don't think he gets that I don't get that many "good guy" moments with him. Of course my youngest is a sociopath. The kid is stone cold, but I attribute that to him being 5. His reply was, "Well, when you buy me the Death Star next year I'll wake you up first."

.......and of course typing this out slows down the thought process enough for me to feel like an ******** for being upset at all. It's pretty easy to see that it doesn't/didn't matter at all and that it was just my own selfishness that made me disappointed. But still.

Don't feel like an ******** for being upset over it. As adults, we typically don't get excited over Xmas morning and the excitement of not knowing what gifts we got. We're adults, we can go out and buy something if we want it. So for us, the excitement and joy is knowing that we made our family happy. I would have been upset if my daughter had done the same thing. After the fact we can laugh it off because "kids will be kids", but it sucks.

A few blocks down from the tattoo shop I work/learn at are a couple of really sweet restaurants. One is basically what I call an "Indigo Girls Diner" with a bunch of hippy ***** and ambiance that makes me feel guilty about being a guy and the other is a bar with Cajun food and the most amazing niche beer menu for what presents itself as a crappy dive bar. In between these two is this abandon storefront with all the windows covered in cardboard and a little sign that says "THIS IS NOT A JAPANESE RESTAURANT! You should slap the fool who told you those lies."

The reviews all talk about how you pay $X up front and get $X food of the chef's choice delivered to your table all while anime a Japanese porn is being shown. But really, how can you possibly survive as a restaurant in the real world if...Oh yeah, I don't live in the real world.

I dunno man, I think too many horror stories start by repeating words into a mirror. Myself, I keep calm by playing glitchy bootleg copies of old video games that I bought at a yard sale. Totally safe.

So this doesn't deserve it's own thread, how many lands should I have with 12 Mana Rocks (1 of each signet, Commander's Sphere, Chromatic Lantern) in a five color deck? Also, I'm running Guildgates (+Maze's End) and the Shocklands, not sure if I should include Fetches or not.

In my professional opinion, you can substitute one land for any mana rock, no matter what the cmc is (yes, even Gilded Lotus can take the place of a basic land). So you can probably get away with around 24 lands.

I typically start with 40 lands then subtract 1 land for each two piece of ramp. I would say if you have a Sensei's divining top in the deck, use fetches. Otherwise make sure to put alteast 1 or 2 of each basic in the deck in-case of blood moon, path to exile, collective voyage ect.

Land count can very wildly depending on the decks goals.

Do you want to able to cast you're WUBRG general after a wrath or two? Then you'll want to hit 10 mana and a good land count for getting there is 38 lands.

Do you fear Blood Moon or Back to Basics? Play 20 basic lands. 15 at the bare minimum.

You may want to consider playing fewer signets, unless you really want them for a Ravnica guild theme. 3 mana rocks that tap for a mana of any color will provide better fixing over a long game. (Darksteel Ingot & Coalition Relic) You also play green, so you can play green mana ramp spells, like Farseek, that are fantastic at fixing because they can get shock lands.

I just realized I haven't had any egg nog yet this year. I need to fix this.

It's all calculation with the amount of card draw you have combined with your curve.
But yes, the "regular" way is two rocks = one land replaced.

We played Type 4 again last night. I am still surprised at how fun that crap is. It really seems like it should be a no strategy slug fest, but really, it was more than my head could handle sometimes. It's the kind of thing I really think people here would like as an alternative to EDH when that feels stale or too competitive, but I know that it won't ever catch on.

My grocery store was out of egg nog. I has a sad.

In other news, I may attempt an edh blog so you can see how badly I stink at writing in addition to magic.

Eggnog is IMHO, something that you think "Man, I haven't had Eggnog in a long time! I should get some" then you do and remember why.

It looks like it should be better than it is.

I haven't had Eggnog in years. TBH, for the like last 3 years I've wanted some. But I always remember being thoroughly disappointed the previous years when I gave in.

My X-mas was just that: X-mas.

I hate X-mas.
