See, there's where we differ. I think all of the Pongify-type cards are very good. A tiny amount of mana to destroy a creature and replace it with an insignificant token is good. Ironically, the original Polymorph is the only one I don't take issue with, because it how blue should handle that effect.
Chaos Warp, on the other hand, is what chaos is. You shuffle the card back into your library and put the top card into play. I agree that the execution of the card was lacking and that's what was wrong with the card, but it's at least in-color. As I stated, each color has a defined way to deal with creatures: white detains them or smites them, black straight up murders them, red sets them on fire, and green loves them and generally doesn't kill them. Blue gets counters, bounce, and theft.
See, the polymorph cards are good in EDH. But we can't use that when discussing cards because our format is insane and ass backwards. Chaos Warp is imbalanced in "real magic". Polymorph effects aren't.
Chaos Warp was an ILLUSION of a drawback. Yea, sure sometimes you gave an opponent an Eldrazi but the vast majority of the time it was free Vindicate. That is not an intended card. It's the type of card that can only exist in EDH because again, we aren't playing magic proper.

I'm not arguing that the design of Chaos Warp was poorly executed. I'm saying that Pongify is inexpensive creature removal that even in constructed formats gives you a vanilla creature that's easier to deal with than what you removed. For U you should be casting Unsummon, not turning a Baneslayer Angel into a beast token.

Again, this is only a valid complaint in EDH. In standard the drawback is very real.

Well then we'll just have to agree to disagree and you can just be happy when someone turns your Underworld Cerberus into a pig during prerelease, because that player is still just as threatened.
Rendering takes a long time..........................
Anyway, everyone here agreeing that the flavor of this set sure fullfills? They did a great job and props to the artist / art director
I agree!!! I think this set has some of the best flavor I've seen in some time. Ever? mehhhh I don't know. But it's definitely a sight for sore Vorthos eyes!
Possible to build some fun heroic synergy into a deck? Yup. Set full of flavor? Yup. It's fine. We get a whole set all to ourselves in November, so it's hard for me to get worked up over not having awesome for EDH cards.
But that blue board wipe... that is some piggy goodness.
On the topic of Polymorph, Proteus Staff is a hella fun and annoying card. I keep forgetting it exists until I play against it. Against some decks (Like ETB the Gathering), it's awful, but against others it can really mess them up. I remember one time, I kept getting my creature replaced by another creature to the point that I couldn't plan my board.
I should put it in Nin just for fun.

See, that's the kind of blue removal I like. Proteus Staff was perfectly executed. Rapid Hybridization makes sense as a Simic card which someone mentioned earlier, although it should be good, not hybrid, and cost more. Like UG at min.
I think I derailed this thread with my stubborn rant, so I'm done now, promise.
Out of the 3 gods currently revealed, I think Thassa is the best. I hope they come out with a good Red god.
If Purphoros doesn't involve artifacts somehow, I will literally light everything on fire. His hammer was bad enough. Please WotC, don't let the chance for Slobad v2.God pass you by!

Purphuros looks cool, I would totally use him as a mono-Red general if he was interesting (Note: Nylea is not interesting. Please do not make Purphuros like Nylea).
Actually, all the gods look cool. I hope we someday see some alternate art versions of the enchantment creatures in this block, because I love the pretty stars in their shadows.

So, yeah. Purphoros is just a big dude with the Moonveil Dragon effect and a burn effect with other dudes. I mean, I'll still try him in Radha, but he's nowhere near as cool as I wanted him to be. Oh well.
It's looking like I'm going to love the flavor of Theros but not the mechanics. Anyone else feeling the same way.
Also, apropos of nothing, they make BBQ Sunchips now. *mindblown*
I like the red god tbh, I see myself making a deck around him.
Some type of red token spam seems appropriate. Get as many of his triggers off as you possibly can, then you can pump if you need to for a finishing blow. Of course, getting twenty creatures to enter the battlefield with red seems hard, but not impossible...

I'm with Juwdah on this one. The Moonveil effect on its own is underwhelming, but combined with a mini-Warstorm Surge on an indestructible sometimes-creature makes it immensely playable in a tokens build.
Aside from Anax and Cymede, I wasn't sold on Heroic, but now I want to find room for Purphoros and Akroan Crusader in my token deck. Might even add that heroic uncommon, too.

Basically all relevant foils? This has been happening for years now.
If there's any particular non-foils that have jumped up, aside from the Legends price reset (which has been long overdue), I am uninformed.
alrighty then. No sarcasm, enjoy your copy of Daxos lol.

How I know I should build a deck:
Probably because violent head trauma isn't something most people plan for.
(Note: It's possible that I think heroic is an awful mechanic.)
I do like devotion a lot though. Convenient, being from CMB, that devotion to black is something very easy to come by.
Also, saying Daxos is awkward so I'm just going to call him duck sauce.
The red Scry dude gives me hope for more library manipulation (specifically scry) in red.
The blue two drop should have been red D:
EDH:

GUEdric, Spymaster of TrestUG <- Link! (Mini-Primer - Dredge)
