Fast forward to later in the game. I managed to get 4 Epic Experiments for 8 each thanks to Melek, but they don't accomplish much besides Chaos Warping the last sword into a Sorin Markov. Oops. Oh yeah, and the Animar player now has an Inkwell Leviathan he's beating me with.
So I'm at 3, facing down an unblockable Inkwell Leviathan and Sorin, and with Melek and Terastodon as my only creatures. I have a Rite of Replication sitting on top of my deck, but no way to stop Inkwell from killing me next turn.
Oh wait, yes I do. Double kicked Rite on Terastodon. I get 10 Terastodons, which I use to blow up all of my islands and Sorin. Next turn attack for game. GG.
How'd you survive the attack?

That is an extremely gutsy move, and all the more commendable for winning off it! It takes a real Magic player to sacrifice your own resources to save your self.
my best play would probably be managing to assemble my Darksteel Forge Nevinyralls Disk and Mycosynth Lattice Combo effectively rendering my opponent useless then procedding to beat him down with 1/1 Myr Tokens
As a connoisseur of fun, interesting matches, I still to this day have not been able to craft that "perfect deck"; the deck that I can play and have fun over time, doesn't get boring, but simultaneously is fun to play against. I honestly don't think it exists. It's like a unicorn. A ninja unicorn.
Used a cauldron dance to return my Zealous Conscripts to steal one players Ulamog then hit him with it. To make it crazy, the Dance was a top deck, and I had a sac outlet. Still lost the game, the third player cast armageddon and had Dude with a sword and destroyed us all quickly.
not sure how great this is. player 1 (Skithryx) - Cocopuffls, player 2 (kaalia) - wrath, me (riku) - body double the Cocoruffs. then i rite of replication and copy the Cocopuffs 10 times. i win!
In a 4 player-game : 2 of my friends were about 30 life the other was at 20
I started my turn with 15 lands . I played Increasing Savagery for 4, on Triskelion, got now 13 counters, then flasback Increasing Savagery now Triskelion had 33 counters . Finally i used my General ability on Triskelion and transformed him in a 1/1 with 99 counters on him . And kill all my opponents .
so just got done playing a game and the opponent had a ranger of eos, dragonmaster outcast, dragon token, mother of runes and some other creature on board along with a propaganda, norn's annex and phyrexian arena after his wrath of god turn before
so on my upkeep my defense of heart triggers i put out kiki and terastodon destroying his three enchants giving him 3 more token creatures.... meanwhile i played a vampiric tutor in upkeep top decking a massacre wurm which i proceed to drop and duplicate w kiki to hit him for major life

I would like to congratulate Jace, The Mind Sculptor on being the most overhyped card ever!
Heh. For some reason a couple of people here have/had steel sabotage in decks. We only have a couple sol rings, but they've been sabotaged quite a few times. The pettier the counter the funnier it is.
Mental misstep is pretty narrow, it's an awful top deck and are you playing it in four player? It's going to get you a lot of hate to misstep people's one drops.

The ability to stop Sol Ring (or Serra Ascendant) even when it's played turn 1 by a player going before you is just that good, and it generally results in the rest of the table applauding you for stopping someone from running away with the game from turn 1.
I have yet to draw the card and end the game with it in my hand.

Mental Misstep can hit a Sol Ring, but is a Sol Ring worth being countered in a multiplayer ffa game? Usually it's not. I won't waste my counterspells on spells that aren't real threats. A Sol Ring is not a threat. A Sol Ring doesn't kill me.
I stopped reading here because it seems you have very poor threat evaluation.
Sol Ring is an enabler of many threats. There's a reason Sol Ring is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage. It's insanely powerful, especially so on the first turn of the game. That's when it is most powerful.
I've played a Vandalblast on a turn one Sol Ring. I don't ever play my Sol Rings on turn one, unless it's going to enable a really early table lock. In those cases, the Sol Ring most certainly was the biggest threat I played. If someone had Mental Misstep'd it, I wouldn't have won like that.

"[Screw] you and the green you ramped in on." - My EDH battle cry. If I had one. Which I don't.
I let it happen and counter the spells that actually can kill me. That's enough. Counter-control in multiplayer is entirely different from counter-control in duels.
I'm afraid you're the one that doesn't understand multiplayer, here. Combo is king, because combo kills an entire table. And when it comes to combo, speed is king. Sol Ring gives you speed. It lets you combo sooner, before everyone can respond. Good luck countering "the spell that can actually kill you" when the Sol Ring is what put him too far ahead for it to matter.

Yeah, if I had the option to start with Mental Misstep in my opening hand every game, I would, simply because roughly 40% of games have a turn one Sol Ring, and countering that is a BIG DEAL.
The only card I'd rather see in my opening hand is my own Sol Ring or Mana Crypt.

He blew up his islands so the islandwalk wasn't an issue, then used some of the tokens to block, I'd assume.
Pristaxcontrombmodruu!
Destroyed his islands so Inkwell could be blocked and killed Sorin so he couldn't be drained.

I've been running Mental Misstep in my blue EDH decks for a while now, and revel in nabbing first turn Sol Rings with it.
The other day, I got my Mental Misstep on a Sol Ring Mental Misstep'd.

Everybody runs Sol Ring. Everybody. Pretty much everybody runs Sensei's Divining Top. There's also tons of high-value one drops out there like Land Tax, Goblin Welder, Swords to Plowshares, Serra Ascendant, etc.

No, the Sol Ring just let me combo kill the whole table before anyone could respond.
Fixed that for you.
