A few days ago, I taught a college's friend to play MTG, more exactly, Magic EDH.
But I suffered the wrath of the beginner's luck
I borrow him my Wort, the Raidmother goodstuff against my Rith, the Awakener and after milling me a few turns with a Dragon Mage he had on the table a few guys and my side with nothing but lands (he destroyed everything with Bramblecrush, Relic Crush and other things, everything copied with Wort and Mirari) I topdecked a Storm Herd putting like 20 pegasus (he had like 24 life).
In his turn he did nothing and passed. He had a few dragons, Arashi, the Sky Asunder and I don't remember more, so I tried to blow his blockers with a Brightflame of 6. He responded with a Reverberate gaining like 150 life...
After a few attacks I tried to reduce his life the most I could, but the difference was awful and eventually lost...
Then, this Friday I borrow him the Jund against a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind. I countered almost everything he tried to cast to shw him the evil of blue magic. A few dragons didn't get countered but were killed with a Nin, the Pain Artist equipped with a Basilisk Collar (he casted anyway just because he could draw more cards for each dragon I killed. I never tried to cast Niv-Mizzet because of Karrthus stealing ablity (and I have already used all my counterspells in hand).
After that he casted a Vicious Shadows I couldn't say no. He had a few guys yet and after counting his mana, he casted Living Death... And if all those dragons didn't were enough, he didn't atacked and prefered to sacrifice almost everything to a Broodmother's token the next turn and I bleed more than 100 damage from the Vicious Shadows. And In case I could do something to stop the Shadows he could have topdecked a Patriarch's Bidding the next turn...
Azusa's board was clogged (obviously) and had beaters like Ulamog, Kamahl and an Oblivion Stone that the rest of us wanted to get rid of. It was either try to get rid of Ulamog or the Oblivion Stone.
On my side I had Azusa's Primeval Titan, Arcum's Duplicant that gobbled up Azusa's Kozilek and Tariel. I spent a good minute trying to iron out my play. What happened next was probably the greatest play in my MTG career.
I swing at Azusa and he just casually takes the damage. 2nd main phase I cast Razia's Prufication hoping that he would use his Oblivion Stone. He did. In response, I used Tariel's ability on Azusa. In his graveyard were Terastadon and Fierce Empath. Everyone thought that I was hoping for a Terastodon but luckily I got the Empath. Empath tutored for Sun Titan. I float 6 mana and let everything resolve. Cast the Titan and dug up Arena of the Ancients from my yard. That shut down Ulamog for good since Azusa never got back to its feet.
Well I have to admit that luck played a HUGE role but still... EPIC.
A pretty cool play occured during last friday's league night. Of the four players: Dave with Intet / Steve with Teysa / Lewin with Kaalia / Me with Ruhan only my colleague Lewin (Kaalia) and i with (Ruhan) were still standing, after a two-hour commander-planechase round. We were residing on "Glimmervoid Basin" he had Kaalia out and an army of her friends at 71 lifes, i had a nobilis of war with some boots at 51 lifes. He passes the turn without planeswalking. That was his mistake. I take all 19 mana in my pool and cast capsize with buyback, bouncing everything on the board, thanks to glimmervoid basin. Then i cast nobilis plus the boots, equip and cast the rage reflection i topdecked and attack for ten in his empty board, discard (keep capsize and 6 lands) pass the turn. He drops land1 and passes. (By then the turntrigger on the plain elapses and we walk away to agyrem) I drop land1 and attack (he:51)/He: land2 + Greaves/I: land2 attack (he:41) He: land3/I: land3 attack (he:31) He: land4 + Kaalia which i vapor snag (he:30)/I: celestial colonnade, attack (he:20)/He: BR Refuge + Kaalia which i capsize (he:21)/I: land5, attack (he:11)/He: land6+Kaalia+equip Greaves+attack+Victory's Herald(me:45/he:17)/I: land6+activate Colonnade+attack with 20 damage for the win.

106 Decks assembled and ready to battle.
Alright, so. Me as Nin, the Pain Artist against my friend's Nath of the Gilt-Leaf. He'd been pecking away at my hand with Nath, and hitting me with Nath and elf tokens. I'd had a hard time getting creatures to stick, but I had a couple of other things in play: a Quest for Ancient Secrets ready to go off, a Crystal Ball, and a Cast Through Time. I'm only at 15 or so life, and he's got more than lethal damage on the board. I scry at the end of his turn...
... and smile when I see Knowledge Exploitation and Mystic Retrieval on top. I play that Knowledge Exploitation like it was a miracle (it pretty much was) and use it to pull Life's Finale out of his deck, also dumping a couple of his creatures into his yard, and then pass the turn.
At which point he attempts to animate and hit me with Svogthos, the Restless Tomb for at least half my life total, and enough mana to potentially finish me off with Death Cloud. So I use my Quest on him in response, making his Tomb a 0/0 and killing it, as well as shuffling his graveyard back into his library, which will be important in a bit.
On my turn I rebound Exploitation, grabbing his Army of the Damned - a dumb move on my part, actually. After getting back Exploitation using the Retrieval, I pass the turn - at which point he spends most of his mana to flashback Army of the Damned. Well, crap, dumb move on my part. But then I realize I have a way to salvage this. My turn:
Mystic Retrieval rebounds, returning Twincast. I swing with my 13 zombies, doing the first damage that I've dealt to him all game - he gained some life off of an early Sangromancer and paid some life with Chainer, Dementia Master, meaning this brought him to 15 life in the end. Then I tap all of my mana to play and Twincast Knowledge Exploitation. The first Knowledge Exploitation grabs Life's Finale again, dumping (among other things) Avenger of Zendikar into his graveyard.
The second Exploitation? Grabbed Beacon of Unrest, grabbing the Avenger. My friend scooped right then, since next turn Knowledge Exploitation was going to rebound and grab Explosive Vegetation out of his deck. He demanded a house ban on Knowledge Exploitation on the spot.

CURRENT EDH DECKS: WUBRG - Scion of the Ur-Dragon W - Kemba, Kha Regent B - Sheoldred, Whispering One G - Kamahl, Fist of Krosa UR - Nin, the Pain Artist
I was playing my Nin, the Pain Artist deck. Everybody is gunning at me, but they're trying to mill me, not kill me with damage. The succeed in getting me to draw my last card. I have about 70 in my graveyard. I survey the field, my hand, and take a deep breath.
An opponent controls an Extraplanar Lens on an Island under it so my islands tap for double. I cast Phantasmal Image, copying another player's Sun Titan. My Phantasmal-Titan returns my Snapcaster Mage. Snapcaster Mage targets the Time Spiral that is in my graveyard. I Time Spiral twice thanks to Chandra, the Firebrand's -2 ability. Seeing no instants in the first seven, I float mana, shuffle the bad seven away and resolve the second Time Spiral with 12 mana in my pool, and a fresh library devode of almost any land, and all action spells.
I know Channel is band and all, but... Treva, the Renewer as a General, player casted Channel, played Dark Depths, and then dumped thirty life into Dark Depths to make Marit Lage. He subsequently gained a significant portion of that life back when Treva dealt damage to one of our opponents and he activated her ability.
Freaking awesome if you ask me.
Playing Sharuum combo vs. Olivia vampire tribal and some random Zedruu deck I had never seen before. I have a Time Sieve on the board, just waiting for Zedruu to tap below 3 mana to activate Azorius Guildmage. He activates a Chromeshell Crab at end of turn to steal some random dork. In response, I activate Time Sieve, ready to combo off. He goes "during your extra turn's upkeep, Chant you with kicker."

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
We had another crazy one. Same decks except I'm playing Riku this time (no infinites, just tokens/goodstuff.) Zedruu starts Delusions/Venser shenanigans to gain a bunch of life. Blue players tapped out, I go "Doubling Season, Parallel Lives, go" -- right after the Birthing Pod came out from under the Oblivion Ring that's been underneath it all game. Next turn I cast Deranged Hermit followed by Rite of Replication (unkicked sadly--didn't have that much mana) then pod away one of the hermits for Consecrated Sphinx. So I make 4 deranged hermits and 80 squirrels. Mimeo player has nothing for all the squirrels. Zedruu has nothing for the tokens--topdecks Akroma's Vengeance. I pitch Mana Drain to Force of Will, having let an EOT Swords on my Consecrated Sphinx resolve.
Yes, I killed people with squirrels, not involving Squirrel Nest or Opposition. It was AWESOME.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
I had an amusing one the other day with my Savra versus Sedris.
Turn 1 I drop a Swamp and Sedris forgoes a land to dump Sheoldred into his yard.
Turn 2 I drop a second land and Animate Dead it. The game ended shortly after.
Turn starts, I drop Thousand-Year Elixir, then Rofellos. Tap Rofellos for 8. Bounce a forest to untap Rofellos, replay the forest, tap for 8 more. Use one of the mana to drop Wirewood Symbiote, bounce Ranger to untap Rofellos, tap for 8 more. Replay Ranger, bounce a forest to untap Rofellos, replay the forest, tap for 8 more. Use Elixir to untap Rofellos, tap for 8 more.
With the lands I had on the field already, I was able to play Kamahl, Fist of Krosa and overrun 8 times so my 4 remaining creatures could clear the table. I don't expect to ever pull that off again, but it was pretty fantastic when it happened.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
I'm playing Thelon, against Stonebrow, Marrow-Gnawer, Sharuum, Thada and Arcanis.
At this point, everyone's been whittling at Sharuum for the whole game. Stonebrow kills Arcanis with a giant Raging Ravine, and I kill Thada with my MUSHROOM ARMY. Now, Stonebrow is on 18, Sharuum is on 8, Marrow-Gnawer is to my left on 38, and I'm on 29.
Marrow-Gnawer slams his slow-rolled Thrummingstone, before Rippling into 30 Relentless Rats, and none of us are too worried until he tries Akroma's Memorial. Sharuum has had all her land destroyed, so she throws her hands up and suicide-Pacts the Memorial to give us a chance, whilst Arcanis *****es from the pizza table that he could have helped. Stonebrow untaps, bashes at Gnawer, does very little apart from clear a few Rats. Sharuum untaps and dies to her Pact. The turn passes to me and we all begin to scoop up, since we're all dead.
Arcanis yells out "don't let him just win, geez I could have stopped this >.>". After we say there's nothing we can do, I grab my topdeck to prove it.
Maelstrom Pulse.
We go crazy, sit back down, I Pulse the Rats. Me and Stonebrow take down Marrow-Gnawer before he takes more than 1 turn.
The showdown between Stonebrow and me seems unlikely to go far after he Blasphemous Act's my glorious cadré of Mushrooms. However, I pull off a few glorious topdecks of Mana Reflection into Caged Sun for green into Thorn Thallid. Combined with my Fungal Bloom, my Mushroom can kill Stonebrow with little difficulty.

I'm using Scion of the Ur Dragon and up against the last two people from a group of six. I have Warstorm Surge in play and nothing else. I topdeck Dragon Broodmate and cast it. Then I kick Rite of Replication on him. 10 4/4 Dragons come down and kill one of the them through Warstorm Burn. Then all the dragons attack the other player for game. (Anger was in my graveyard).

I untap and draw Palinchron. Play Cabal Coffers. I study the math for a little bit and realize that I'm short one land to recur Palinchron infinitely. My only possibility is to Acquire a mana doubler, play Frantic Search, and hope.

And this... +1 to you man for running Thorn Thallid. Most awesome vegetable ever printed.
So I get to be on the receiving end of annoying crap.
So it was a multiplayer game, but it got down to me(Karrthus) and a control player. The control player has stolen my Karrthus with Sower of temptation. He has a keiga out. I play eldrazi monument and then play Blasphemous act. Now what is the worse thing that could happen? He "flashes" in confiscate with mosswort bridge and steals my eldrazi monument. SO now instead of his guys dying, mine die and he gets my eldrazi monument. I lost in 2 turns not being able to recover. My last draw was a Decree of pain. I had enough mana to play it, but well his guys were indestructible. It was a nice long game, but I was a little annoyed at the end result.
I start my turn with 7 cards in hand and drawing 4 more. I tap 6 lands and play Time Spiral with 6 floating (Mana Flare). I opt to only draw 20 (thanks to Sphinx). Then, I cast Molten Psyche. In response, I cast Tolarian Winds to which I respond by activating Jace's Archivist. So, the Archivist resolves. I discard 18 cards, drawing 21. Then, the Winds resolves discarding then drawing 21 cards. Lastly, the Psyche resolves, shuffling my hand and drawing the rest of my library (42 cards).
So, Psychosis Crawler did 108 to each player (324)
4 for the turn
20 Time Spiral
21 Jace's Archivist
21 Tolerian Winds
42 Molten Psyche
Molten Psyche dealt damage for each card opponents drew this turn: (43)
7 Time Spiral
18 Jace's Archivist
18 Molten Psyche
Then Niv-Mizzet had 108 to distribute (108)
For a grand total of 475 damage in one turn. 367 to each player and 108 for the survivors (which there were none...)
So, I'm playing my Niv-Mizzet... grand total of 475 damage in one turn.
First off, high five for people playing a mass hand draw deck as a win con, but I think my version of this story is as insane, if not more.
So, general is also Niv, just cause someone pointed out that Nin does nothing and Tubor and Lumia really does suck a big one.
Here's the situation, I have on the field I think were Teferi's Puzzle Box, Cosi's Trickster(at that point I have like 12 counter on her), Wheel of Fate about to pop, and a few mana rocks to accel. In my grave, however, I have some real fun gems like Windfall, Wheel of Fortune, Winds of Change, and one of my favorite cards recently, Past in Flames. So, I get to my turn, Upkeep I wheel away everyone's hands, and start keeping track of their cards drawn, since I know I have to basically kill everyone. My new hand had a few things fun, but too bad the puzzle box threw it all away, and I'm at 8 cards. In it were Chandra, the Firebrand, and Molten Psyche. I couldn't stop thinking at that point, since it just got so funny how much I can do to kill everyone. Thanks to the monored with his gauntlets out, I had ample amount of red mana to throw down ALL the cards. So this was my course of action.
First, I played a mystical tutor, trying to draw out the counter spells. Out loud, I basically said what do I need now, flipped some cards in my library, and stared at the Past in Flames. The table knew I was gonna draw the card anyway, so the counter spell was used. The plan worked.
Next came the set-up, since most of the table was at near 30s, and I needed to ping their hands and life. I then basically did a chandra, played another mana rock, and then flashbacked Past in Flame. Then I played all my wheel effects again, used Chandra's copy ability, and double Molten Psyche everyone. All of this was done without Niv-Mizzit on the field, so my total damage was like 77 to everyone.
Another day I used a Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund tribal dragon against the same gruul because he liked it.
After a few dragons, damage to here and there I had like 15 life, a Sheoldred, Bladewing the Risen and Dragon Broodmother.
He had only Wort, Darksteel Plate and Fires of yamivaya. Then he casted a Artisan of Kozilek and equipped him with the Plate and reviving a Dragon Mage. Then. he casted Overwhelming Stampede and copied it tapping the 2 Wort's sons and attacked with more I could block...

"I'll cast Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre."
"What would you like to vindicate?"
"Raging River"
I'm pretty sure I will never hear/see that again in my life.
My Saffi deck
BTW: This is my 666th. Post of the Beast!!!!
I collect pre-release Stone-Tongue Basilisk
Horde of Notions | Azami, Lady of Scrolls | Mirri the Cursed | Kaalia of the Vast | Ghave, Guru of Spores | Nin, the Pain Artist | Damia, Sage of Stone | Derevi, Empyrial Tactician | Vela the Night-Clad | Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain | Nahiri, the Lithomancer | Princess Twilight Sparkle
I find the most amazing and crazy part of this post that you were allowed to untap with all of this in a Niv deck.
It boggles my mind.
