In my Treva deck I've just added Roots of Life. Now the deck has lifegain as a sub-theme but the card gains a boatload of life, and since it does it incrementally, cards like Archangel of Thune get mighty fighty. Even better, it's been errata'd to say any opponent, so multiplayer games with Urborg are hilarious.
The only downside is that you have to be very on your toes to keep track of it all.
I ran Lifetap in my Thassa, god of the Sea deck. Double blue for devotion plus it would generally gain me 20+ life over the course of a few turns.
Nice! Never seen that card. I have a Thassa deck and I love the UU enchantments. Plus, the deck struggles to regain a foothold if my life dwindles.
I'm in love with genju of the spires in mono red. It's a huge ground threat early, a great rattlesnake late, sac fodder for when I have one threat and someone plays a fleshbag marauder etc, trades a mountain for two cards with skullclamp out, wears equipment post wrath, and generally just works. I used to play 46 lands in ashling and am down to 42 with godo and still love the card.
U/W standard... geared more towards Master of Waves devotion than true control... but found that Wall of Frost is my hidden gem. TOTAL boss against aggro decks... it won me the GAMEDAY last weekend. G/R monsters... G/W hexproof... mono white heroic... sorry fellas! haha

Started in Ice Age...got both old and new, from Power 9 to Present Day sets...just ask or name a card!
Think I mis-typed, or something. Consider me backing down the point. Refreshing some cards once in a while is not bad, there's a lot of cards in magic and we miss out on some narrow and effective ones if there's no quick reminder.
What I want people to do is look what is considered as under the criteria. There's no real reason to list off Academy Rector, it's expensive for a really good reason. (example of a card)
I booted Darksteel Ingot from my grixis deck which has 42 land and replaced it with Prophetic Prism. The Prism replaces it's self and fixes my mana for and most of the time if it gets blasted i could care less (as I'm not a card down). the Prism is pretty kickin' in foil as well.
I've recently rediscovered Predator, Flagship. I even had a NM/Mint copy of it sitting in my collection, which I opened myself and never played. In an old SCD thread for it (here) people were saying maybe run it in green decks, if at all.
But I just added it to my deck and it's kind of amazing with Moat. You can jump your guys over the Moat as well as kill opposing fliers. My deck is more of a control style deck anyway, and between Predator, Flagship, Moat, and Maze of Ith, I can set up a pretty good defense for my planeswalkers.
- Not super secret but often forgotten in decks that could really use him, Crater Hellion. Don't feel like wrathing the whole board and lose your fatties? This guy can help roast those pesky utility creatures. Bonus points for looking awesome.
- A more cryptic card now: Purgatory. Obviously not quite as good as Debtors' Knell but it can still be really handy to keep your key creatures around, just have to be mindful of what you put under there, if a big threat goes to purgatory it will most likely draw heavy hate and get exiled as a result. Still I found it to be a really neat card that gets very little love.
It's probably outclassed by Rest in Peace, but in a deck that isn't worried about its own graveyard, I think it may be better than Leyline of the Void
I am surprised it wasn't already on there, Planar void is a fantastic card.
Another addition I have for the list is rather janky but I really liked it in my creature heavy Crovax themed deck: Dark Triumph. free trumpet blast in mono black is not expected at all.

One card I've been tinkering with is Curse of Bloodletting. It really points the aggro at whoever the unlucky cursed one is, and can wipe them out in short order. Not the greatest, but it's fun cursing someone.
I actually think Curse of Bloodletting is pretty good. It's a great political card, it's really funny paying someone back with it, a lot of the time it reads "enchanted player loses the game".
Adding another one to the list: Aladdin's lamp. Kinda forgot about this card until I saw Ninja Bob's list for Rasputin. Its a pretty decent digging card, in colorless no less.
And I somehow missed the manacost >_> Guess I had another card in mind when I was reading this.

For 10 mana you get a card that's worse than scroll rack in almost every way. I'm not sure this is anywhere close to a diamond in the rough.
Mark of Fury in my Enchantress Uril deck. I'd recommend it for any Naya Enchatress-themed EDH. Oftentimes it's an ancestral recall with a buyback of 0.

thats a pretty good one actually..
and on another note, aladdin's lamp isnt all that bad, since it doesnt draw the ire of the whole table, unlike scroll rack and the like.
has anyone brought up traitor's clutch? looks expensive, but it's flashback only costs 1b. and i think most of the time, your opponents are going to forget that you had it in your graveyard, so you can surprise unblockable any creature (including an opponent's commander)!
It might not be a hidden gem, but it is something I found out by playing the other day.
Oloro + Exquisite Blood = draw as many cards and loss of life for as much mana you have.
Seems to be an issue with the first post. Anyone else see it as all buggy? The spoiler tags stopped working for me on both my work computer and my home computer.
I dug real deep for my Thassa deck. Other "Gems" (certainly hidden) include Sunken City, Homarid Spawning Bed, and Wall of Kelp

Also: Read the Bones is a rock-solid card from Theros.
Wow. Nice one Riv!
I've never seen that ever. Makes we want to sleeve up Abhorrent Overlord and get all Zhang He, Wei General on someone.

Legacy - Solidarity - mono U aggro - burn - Imperial Painter - Strawberry Shortcake - Bluuzards - bom
Heh, didn't know that. Until now I assumed it acted like Exploration.

Also if you have Momir Vig in play, try casting a kicked Thicket Elemental. Its like a mini Tooth and Nail.

His hidden gem? Eater of the Dead. With a little bit of luck, that innocuous creature can flip an opponent's library upside down in one turn.
