I run a lot of white decks, so I've gotten pretty familiar with wonderful board control spells. My favorite is Final Judgment. I'm sure it's not very "hidden" or unknown. But with almost everyone in my group running recursion of some sort, it's great for permanently getting rid of their creatures. :3
Ditto on Final Judgment. Wrath of God just doesn't cut it when everyone has multiple recursion engines. Martial Coup is probably my favorite wrath though. For 7 mana I get a DoJ and 5 1/1s.
My newest hidden gem is Honden of Seeing Winds. Yes it's 2 turns slower than Phyrexian Arena, but without the life loss, and easier on the mana.
I can't believe anyone is excited about this card. It is absolutely unplayable. I wouldn't even play her in LIMITED. Easily the worst walker printed since the green elf one. Absolutely terrible.
I don't want to make a new topic, but it almost seems like comparing Wayfarer's Bauble, Rampant Growth, and something like Night's Whisper is warranted. Just always seems like a discussion of the first one leads to the second, and now the second leads to the last one...so if you need something for a low cmc that either of those three could fill, what do you choose?
The choice between the two is a bit more complicated. It involves looking at a deck's mana curve and land count. I'm inclined to say that draw 2 is nearly always better in an actual slot, but sometimes you'd want Rampant Growth etc instead of another land, in the event you already have a high land count and a bimodal mana curve.
Another question is what's better out of Rampant Growth and Explore, given the event that Explore whiffs.
When your hand is empty of land, it's either because you're land screwed or you're drawing thin late.
Screwed early, you want Rampant. It guarantees the land you need. Explore only has a chance. Neither does its secondary function of accel because you miss a drop.
Drawing thin late, you can either use a land or you can't. If you can use one, they're both basically the same. If you can't, explore is slightly better, since it gives you your top card earlier and thus more options earlier
But then it becomes basically the same at the point you take an unneeded land off the top.
So, Rampant is better than a whiffed explore when you're stuck, and any value Explore has late is very thin. At any rate, the value is comparable to a cycling land.
I guess my point is how BAD Explore is when it whiffs. Super Bad. Like that movie with the two high school kids trying to get laid. Every time an Explore of mine whiffs, I feel like a loser. I think of giving my roommate a roofie, stealing his Crucible of Worlds and running cycling lands.
People thinking of how cool Explore is when it whiffs, like it turns them into blue mages or something, cause me to get a bit itchy. Like people who think that the American economy is tanking because of a lack of capital and high corporate taxes, or who think Rihanna makes good music, or who gasp at a card trick I've already figured out. Maybe it's an opinion, but if it is, its basis is still a matter of ignorance. And sometimes I just can't stop myself from pointing out that the Emperor is naked when he starts parading around.
SCD created for Explore. Please continue any conversation you might have for it there. While some discussion is ok this topic is going too heavy for the Hidden Gems to keep talking about the card. Please any further talk about it can continue in the SCD.
Saffi Eriksdotter is well-known, but the little man really deserves to be in more GWx decks that have awesome creatures. good removal protection that can be creature-tutored and/or reanimated is very good utility for a two mana chump
Please refrain from well known widely used cards in the Hidden Gems page. While you might really enjoy a card it doesnt make it a hidden gem. -ISB

Nantuko Cultivator. If you often still have a few lands in your hand after getting to 4+ mana, this is an excellent way to cycle them and get a reasonably beefy vanilla creature for your trouble. It gets far better when you're running Life from the Loam and/or Land Tax, as well.
Worldly Counsel - Basically another (conditional) Impulse that in 5C decks can give you some filtering at instant speed. I played it in Invasion block with 3-5C decks and it was good back then.
Deathbringer Thoctar has done some amazingly fun things for me. Whether it is from being pared up next to a Mephidross Vampire, or from being equipped with a Basilisk Collar, or if Death Pits of Rath was laying behind him, he's been doing crazy fun stuff. Yeah it requires some specific support to really work, but it's not hard to fit most of those in your deck, leave alone tutor for it. If you get it out with one of the afformentioned cards, it basically tells your opponents to go ahead and try to lay down a creature. Yeah he is a target for quick removal but by that time it likely swept the board at least once for you.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
For those people looking for more non-restricted black removal, of the exiling variety, I humbly present: Carrionette
Note that the exiling of the creature is not contingent on exiling carrionette. You can activate it multiple times, or resurect it, or raise it (tortured existence) in response.
It is conditional in that they can pay 2 to counter the ability, but hey, I'm sure that can be worked around.
I can only assume this is in regards to Library of Lat-Nam, but I fail to see how to get this every turn. It's a sorcery, and it costs 5.
Oh, I see the last line now. Yeah, no. Both of those are sorceries.

Angelic Renewal
as far as reanimation spell, this card might have trouble finding a home in decks with access to black, but it's pretty good with my favorite titan of all. almost like a Saffi number 2.

I see Angelic Renewal becoming a lot stronger when Wizards prints the white version of Volrath's Stronghold/Academy Ruins that recurs enchantments. You know someone at R&D will want to complete that cycle.

I mean...he just goes along perfectly with so many of my decks. He's a fattie if you have a lot of cards in your hand, and he kills your opponents if you draw a lot of cards.
What EDH deck DOESN'T like drawing cards and killing your opponents at the same time?

He's the #1 game winner in my Niv-Mizzet deck. I love me some Psychosis Crawler!!!! Since winning several games with him, my table usually doesn't let him live very long as everyone is gunning for him.

A) I don't actually see wizards ever completing this cycle, because the only red possibility is Sorceries, which would be way too good with Time Magic, like Panoptic Mirror
B) How does this break Renewal? You're going to skip your draw and spend a total of 3WW just to let one creature recur when it dies each turn? Why not just run Nim Deathmantle and recur any number of creatures when they die each turn for 4 each.

I will swarm you with bears!
Technically, speaking, those are already part of a complete cycle (Teferi's Isle, Volrath's Stronghold, Yavimaya Hollow, Kor Haven, Keldon Necropolis). I don't know if Academy Ruins actually counts, but it fits the other cards in the cycle better than Teferi's Isle so I've been considering it an unofficial replacement for it.
That said, I wouldn't be too surprised if we do end up with an enchantment-y version of the Stronghold or Ruins either.
