Slimefoot, the Stowaway is going right into my Ghave deck, but I'm sure he would be a good commander in his own right. There aren't a whole lot of saproling cards in Magic, but I hope this set comes out with another boon or two for that deck.
Also, O Captain, My Captain is awfully purdy. Jhoira can command me anywhere she pleases.
It's a good card ad very attractive art. Commander is loving this set.
Am I the only one who feels completely overwhelmed with the amount of new decent commanders? I am not talking about broken ones, but a good portion of the new legends can at least help make a nice casual deck.
The general will depend on what you want access to: two colors is Wrex, the big tapdown is Lorthos, Tromo has protection, Thassa is cheap, Tani is cheap, this is a constant wrath........really I think it will come down to the Risen Deep or the Rising Deep, though. =P
The question is, is this the sea monster commander for sea monster tribal?
I'm very disappointed with him... her? it? I think it's a she, don't know why
I'm very disappointed with her. She is either too costly or too... monocolored.
As a commander, she can't work. Too costly, many other blue commanders have already won the game by then.
As a support card for sea monster tribal, it's still costly as hell. Sea monster tribal is an unsupported, underwhelming deck and this underwhelming doesn't change things.
I guess she can work in some durdly merfolk decks.
I mean....sea monster tribal.
Flavour wise it's perfect. Gameplay wise, it does exactly what it should. The only thing that doesn't work is the CMC. What I'm saying is that maybe expectations were a bit too high for the card to start with. There aren't many tribal themes that are ever going to be super competitive. There are some, just not many. Quite frankly, I don't see Leviathans, Sea Monsters, Krakens, or any variation on that theme ever being competitive, if for no other reason than their general CMCs, which are traditionally (and with good reason) quite high.
If you're building sea monster tribal, really you shouldn't be expecting competitive, you should be expecting fun, and this card is certainly that. And at uncommon, no less.

Costly? There's a ton of ramp cards for blue they even have a quest enchantment that can cheat them out
slinn voda does look pretty awful, but it's an uncommon. So far the theme among uncommon legends this set seems to be that they're generally underwhelming, at least for commander play. It is tribal support, though. If you're playing sea monster tribal I feel like a card sucking isn't going to be a reason for leaving anything out of your deck.
Well of course, if we never print good cards for the archetype, it will never be a good archetype
Back in alpha there were only 2 *****ty goblins and goblin king. Thank god they didn't say "i don't see goblins ever being competitive" and instead printed more goblin support card.
Sure. I just don't think you should hold your breath for a well-costed Sea Monster legend. That's a contradiction in terms. There's support for the tribal niche, I just wouldn't ever expect to see a leviathan for 2U.
Grand Warlord Radha, because I want EDH generals who look like they'll rip you in half. Her ability is also super sweet.
She's gotten swole since 2007! I don't know of you read comics, but her development reminds me a lot of the Glory redesign when the comic returned after a 15 year hiatus. Go check out the covers for Glory 22 (1997) and 23 (2012) to see another awesome case of a warrior woman getting a super nice buff!
i am probably the least story savvy mod on the team, unfortunately so I have not read it. But, I will definitely check that out! I'm a sucker for characters like Radha and Saskia who are on the swole end of the body type spectrum.
I'm super excited for this set. I'm going to be up to my eyeballs in new decks

Didn't even read Muldrotha. OMFG! a 6/6 for 6. With a GREAT ability. And in green so ramping is possible.
Also Tatyova is gonna go i my friends merfolk deck. Garunteed.

Meh, there are better counter spells out there, some that counter more than just creatures and also untap lands used to cast it.
I am still waiting for a counterspell with split second.

And by "some" I assume you mean "exactly rewind". I'd save a mana to miss creatures I think. Negate > cancel after all.

Because my mono-black deck didn't have enough ways to generate lots of mana.
