Eh. His Ultimate is nice, but to get it you'll need 3 turns, and all that'll net you is (on average) a spread between 3 and 9 life (from his +2). and I might as well just run better demons than the french vanillas he spits out. Overall kinda underwhelming. Okay mana cost, I think though.
I suuuure love the Lieutenant ability. Something which was completely missing and is great idea.
I wonder what other abilities will the Lieutenant have and how they can be used in some decks outside of monocolors.
Wow, I had totally missed the "d" in Feldon's name and so missed that he's the dude with the cane. I just figured "Third Path" refered to his particular style of robo-necromancy, to contrast with Geralf's "Frankenstein's monster" method and Gisa's "zombie apocalypse".

You would never guess, at the terrifying sight of the man, that Hunding was as charming a companion as one could wish for.
Jazai is potentially awful good in a lot of decks. Mayael, Jor Kadeen metalcraft infect, Gahiji token-swarm. The big question is, do I slot him in place of Soul of Theros?
He does tick up loyality pretty fast, but his lifegain is kinda underwhelming, true. As part of the 99, he doesn't immediately drop for his ultimate either with Doubling Season. However, paying 5 mana and 2 life for a 5/5 demon AND a lightning rod who might repay that life? Iunno, it's not HORRID. However, probably the worst black PW.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
His bleeder effect compares him as a less in your face version of Kokusho, the Evening Star or Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, so I can see people choosing to play him over other B Commanders in a bleed/drain deck (also being a neat character with potential to impact the current storyline doesn't hurt). Also, the potential to have infinite, nigh-uncounterable Momentous Falls in your command zone gives me the shivers. If my brother wasn't sold on Shizo right now, he'd probably play this.
Gravesifter is a neat tribal card, though I kind of wish he was a Changeling to give him some extra reach and settle in better with the decks he wants to play with (i.e. I don't want to play a giant creature that isn't a dragon in Karrthus, even if he works well with dragons...).
Wow, hes horrible. 3 Loyality for 5 mana? Ulti costs 8 loyality, even with doubling season it takes another 2 rounds to activate it. First spell useless, 1 dmg to enemy, possible +2(+3) life gain...
5 mana nad -2 life for 5/5 flying creature, letting your general on 1 loyality, dying on anything.
That ultimate is nice, but too overpriced and I don't think someone will pull it out.
I would give him like 3-4/10.
im pretty happy that the planeswalker "generals" are pretty unplayable so far. i hate the fact that they exist as a card type and what they do to this game. unfortunately, that means 5 blanks on new cards. the bright side of things is how flavorful the new legends are.
So he's basically a 5 mana sorcery that makes a 5/5 flyer token and then soak up some damage for you. Seen in that way, he's not terrible as a card. He's just not a value engine that PWs tend to be.
Feldon of the Third Path feels very blue/black to me. How is he red? I guess I like him - not to strong, but a good card. Jazal Goldmane feels green to me. Overrun effects in white? However he seems to be good, too. A Voltron/Token-theme seems to fit with what white is doing anyway.
Looking forward to some more spoilers. I'm so excited!
Caring about the number of attacking creatures appears to already be in white's (and red's) color pie:
So, we're finally going to be getting tokens in the Commander decks. This is a very welcome change, and one I wholeheartedly support.
It's a small thing, but I'm still happy about it.
And if they don't start giving us tokens for existing cards (like kobolds), players will rage.
The only Kobold tokens are named "Kobolds of Kher Keep", and Kobolds of Kher Keep is already a card, so I doubt we'll ever get a token version of them.
So he's basically a 5 mana sorcery that makes a 5/5 flyer token and then soak up some damage for you. Seen in that way, he's not terrible as a card. He's just not a value engine that PWs tend to be.
Using that logic he's a failure of both design and development. Planeswalkers are not supposed to function as a sorcery. He simply doesn't do anything meaningful until his ulti (which is very good), and that is the telltale sign of an absolutely abysmal walker.
+2 actually does nothing.
-2 is solid, IF he didn't have 3 starting loyalty. But to use his only real ability and have him killable by anything feels terrible.
Ulti as I said is good, except for the reality that it will never go off.
Would you pay 5 mana for a 5/5 flyer that does nothing else? How about 7 mana? 9? Sorry, but the card is bad a walker and worse as a commander. But hey, hype is a blinding thing.
I don't think anyone really hypes him up right now. I haven't seen anyone call him broken or bonkers yet, just a cute card that some folks will use as a commander because he does look badass, and there are much, MUCH worse commanders possible (See: Legends).

Not that I disagree with your assessment of the card but most PWs don't last a round in a multiplayer table anyways. You have to be satisfied with using a PW as a sorcery most of the time if you're putting it in your deck.

I judge planeswalkers more harshly. They are the faces of the game. Add to that WotC picked this guy instead of Szat or Leshrac who had far more backstory and relevance to mtg as a whole.
There is simply no reason for him to have the "play as commander" thing tacked onto him. It feels cobbled together. Why is a demon walker doing vampire life draining? Why was he not costed/powered for a legacy card pool format?
A card like Feldon does not need to be super strong, because the flavor/nostalgia carries it. Ob Nix simply doesn't have that help, so he stands simply by his card, which is the worst mono-B walker (maybe tied for dark realms).

Backstory, certainly. But at this point those two are totally irrelevant to the storyline, and Ob Nixilis is a developing character who could actually effect plot arches.
Believe it or not, characters can have have relevance even if they're not from your "glory days" of Urza-Dominaria, grandpa. You're like an old man insistent that "These new fangled machines just make life worse."

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Jazai is potentially awful good in a lot of decks. Mayael, Jor Kadeen metalcraft infect, Gahiji token-swarm. The big question is, do I slot him in place of Soul of Theros?
I think I actually would. 4 mana instead of 6, 5 mana for the activation instead of 6. And way more damage. Sure, lifelink is very good, but I think I'd rather have the damage.
Myriad Landscape seems good in everything. It's a Krosan Verge for two of the same basic. Like, I can't think of a deck that wouldn't want to run that (unless it runs <2 basics of its types).

Of course the new characters have relevance. That's exactly why a set like this should pander to the older characters. They cannot physically print the vast majority of characters/places/events in a traditional set.
Also, I never said that was my main gripe with him. If it were Ob Nix and he was actually decent there would be little issue. But using the most limited design space for a character on a weak card is Tibalt level misjudgment.
Pretty good. I'm not big on Reverberate effects, they seem to just sit in my hand, but as yet another spell attached to a little guy this is a nice utility card for Red.
Freyalise isn't really great, when you think about it. Garruk 2.0 poops out bigger tokens AND draws cards immediately. However, she does offer repeatable Naturalizes on top of tokens, so she'll see playtime. Just, she's not THAT great when all's said and done.
Best art on a Green PW so far, though.

I wish he cost 3 or 4 to make it easier to dark ritual him out.
Costing 4 or simply having more loyalty would make him feel less bad. Although his +2 being so insanely useless hurts him regardless of stats/cost.
