Is it just me or does anyone else suspect that the fact we got a Vampire precon and a bunch of Vampires in Ixalan is not a coincidence
It's as much a coincidence as the cats right after Amonkhet.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Well another set fully revealed and I still don't care. Sure some cards are cool just like they were in Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation, but overall, underwhelming, yet again.
Gonna buy the new Cradle because I can't justify buying another Cradle and that's all. The set has nice flavor but I think it's a little lackluster for EDH.
Gonna buy the new Cradle because I can't justify buying another Cradle and that's all. The set has nice flavor but I think it's a little lackluster for EDH.
Every set lately has been. It seems like they are catering to standard which i have to see people play since innistrad. Maybe it is just my LGS but they use to be overflowing with players, now the only time they have business is thursday night EDH and sealed (At least for MTG) Not even modern gets a lot of business though it does get more than Standard.
Even another LGS that is close by is the same way, people never show up for FNM. I feel if the standard format is dwindling so much thanks to the other formats, perhaps they should try catering to the lest restricted formats, such as EDH, legacy and modern.
Cards that I'm going to try or that I think will make an impact on EDH from Ixalan:
Ashes of the Abhorrent - Having some anti-graveyard card for my lifegain deck might make some sense; I'm just not sure just how much life I can reasonably expect to gain from this. Bishop of Rebirth - I can see getting some value by recurring things like Sakura-Tribe Elder, Burnished Hart, or Voidmage Prodigy. Legion's Landing - I can see this getting some play in a token-based deck Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle - If there is a Vampire tribal deck to be made, this will likely make the cut. Settle the Wreckage - A mass Path to Exile seems like its going to be good both defensively and potentially as a ramp spell by exiling some tokens you control to turn them into lands. Tocatli Honor Guard - Another hate-bear that does a nice Torpor Orb impersonation. Arcane Adaptation - A cheaper Conspiracy/Xenograft, its a nice addition to a deck that wants/need to manipulate creature types. Chart a Course - Blue really needed a card like this at 2 mana; a card that can help dig out of mana screw early and can generate actual card advantage in the late game. Herald of Secret Streams - Going to be awesome in +1/+1 counter decks Overflowing Insight - 7 mana is a lot, but 7 cards is also a lot. Prosperous Pirates - This will get some play in my Brago blink deck and potentially in my Riku deck River's Rebuke - Only affecting one player will be seen as a drawback to some who play multiplayer, but it is also potentially a feature given the right circumstances Search for Azcanta - I can lots of utility usage from this card Spell Swindle - It's an interesting twist on Mana Drain/Plasm Capture Boneyard Parley - Reanimating 2-3 creatures with one spell can be potentially really powerful, plus I like the Fact or Fiction feel of the card Raider's Wake - This will go into my Nicol Bolas discard themed deck, but I can see some people using this in Nekusar or other hand-cycling decks Revel in Riches - I like effects that trigger off opponent's creatures dying. Sanctum Seeker - Another solid card that makes me want to make Vampire tribal Angrath's Marauders - 7-mana may outprice this for my Gisela burn deck, but you have to respect the word double on any magic card Captain Lannery Storm - Generating treasure tokens seems like an awesome way to help ramp mana in red Captivating Crew - 4 mana for a 4-power body that can repeatedly steal opposing creatures makes for some nice potential Star of Extinction - Combine with Repercussion, Stuffy Doll, or Mogg Maniac to dole out massive damage Sunbird's Invocation - I like the pseudo-Cascade effect Vance's Blasting Cannons - Outpost Siege is already an excellent card, and red can use the card advantage Growing Rites of Itlimoc - A small hoop to jump through for a Gaea's Cradle seems legit Pounce - Instant speed fight card for only two mana might be good enough Ripjaw Raptor - Combos with Pestilence, Pyrohemia, Pestilence Demon, etc. that does damage in discreet pieces. Hostage Taker - The fact that you can cast the card so you don't have to give it back makes this really good Shapers of Nature - Another solid +1/+1 counter cards Tishana, Voice of Thunder - This will likely go right into Damia Vona, Butcher of Magan - Paying 7 life is steep, but paying zero mana for the effect is amazing Vraska, Relic Seeker - A good set of abilities, but the 6CMC might be too much Dowsing Dagger - For multiplayer, giving one player a pair of blocking plants is no problem when you can just attack someone else to flip this... and oh my is Lost Vale so worth flipping into. Primal Amulet - Solid abilities both flipped and unflipped. Treasure Map - Flavor win that is also seemingly quite good Vanquisher's Banner - Kindred Discovery is quite good from what I have seen so far, and this is better in some ways (it doesn't trigger off of a token generating spell or ability for example). This may become another tribal-deck staple. Unclaimed Territory - Even if you are just naming the creature type of your commander this will help smoothe out your mana.
I'm actually looking forward to a few of these, especially some of the flip cards.
This list looks similar to mine. I can't see how anybody can say that there isn't EDH worthy cards in this set. At the very least you get 2 new tribes, and some welcome support to already established tribes. The flip cards are nuts.
The only way I don't see these cards being played in EDH is if you play EDH more like 100-Card singleton/Vintage. And at that point, you aren't even talking about the same format anymore...
Well another set fully revealed and I still don't care. Sure some cards are cool just like they were in Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation, but overall, underwhelming, yet again.
Serious question: why do you find it underwhelming?
Even if you're only looking at cEDH, there are several cards that could fit into the format. If you open it up to broader EDH playstyles there are an easy 20-30 cards that I'd expect to see at some point, even if you discount things like pirate and dinosaur tribal that are certain to be played. Any set that contributes multiple cards to an eternal format is more or less par for the course. EDH is an eternal format, even if it's something of an unusual one because it typically uses significantly more cards from new sets than other eternal/nonrotating formats.

[Pr]Jaya | Estrid | A rotating cast of decks built out of my box.
I'm sure there's lots of cards I'll pick up if they end up being cheap, mostly the flip-lands, they're so cool.
But mostly I'm just interested in getting as many Growing Rites as I can get my hands on. I'll also get a stack of Chart a Course because I love cheap card draw/selection.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

I'm actually looking forward to a few of these, especially some of the flip cards.
Chart a Course - Niv-Mizzet - I'm at least going to put it in the deck that really wants the cheap card draw, but I suspect this will make it into Nicol Bolas, Damia, Riku, Jalira, and maybe Brago. Fleet Swallower - Oona Mill - I have high hopes for this, but at 7 mana it would be pushing it for my deck. We'll see. Herald of Secrete Streams - Vorel counters - Unblockability for the entire team sounds fantastic Prosperous Pirates - Brago Blink and Riku Copycat - I look forward to making lots of Treasure tokens, especially in Riku River's Rebuke - Riku Copycat, Niv-Mizzet, Nicol Bolas Discard, and Jalira Polymorph - Being able to copy this with Riku to hit multiple players in a pinch makes me happy, but it will also get a lot of mileage in both Niv-Mizzet, Nicol Bolas, and Jalira. Search for Azcanta/Azccanta, the Sunken Ruin - Niv-Mizzet, Damia, Jalira - This may end up in multiple blue decks if I can get my hands on enough copies, but these are the first three that I'm going to try it in. Spell Swindle - Niv-Mizzet, Damia, Brago, Jalira - I'm going to try this one out in a bunch of decks as well.
Angrath's Marauders - Gisela Burn - I like my damage doubling effects, but I'm wondering if 7 mana is just too much. Sunbird's Invocation - Gisela Burn, RB Wort, Uril Enchantress - Any of my red decks that don't mind tapping out will probably see this at some poiint, but these three strike me as the ones that will enjoy the card advantage the most. Trove of Temptation - Bosh - Ignoring the first clause, I'm much more interested in the Treasure tokens every turn. Vance's Blasting Cannons/Spitfire Bastion - Gisela Burn Wily Goblin - RB Wort - Seems like it could be good for the Goblin tribal deck
Growing Rites of Itlimoc/Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun - Ezuri Elves, Wort Tokens, Sisay Legends, Rhys tokens, Trostani Lifegain, Jarad, Prossh, Ghave, Riku - Any deck that runs Gaea's Cradle is eventually going to get one of these depending on cost/availability

So from Ixalan, this is what I finally decided I'm going to try out:
Legion's Landing/Adanto, the First Fort - Rhys tokens and Edgar Markov Vampires - this card seems really good in any token deck, so it will slot right at home in my Rhys deck. I've also decided that I want to build Edgar Markov as my Mardu deck and this is going right into it.
Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle - Edgar Markov Vampires
Bishop of Rebirth - Edgar Markov Vampires
Paladin of the Bloodstained - Edgar Markov Vampires
Queen's Commission - Edgar Markov Vampires
Chart a Course - Niv-Mizzet - I'm at least going to put it in the deck that really wants the cheap card draw, but I suspect this will make it into Nicol Bolas, Damia, Riku, Jalira, and maybe Brago.
Fleet Swallower - Oona Mill - I have high hopes for this, but at 7 mana it would be pushing it for my deck. We'll see.
Herald of Secrete Streams - Vorel counters - Unblockability for the entire team sounds fantastic
Prosperous Pirates - Brago Blink and Riku Copycat - I look forward to making lots of Treasure tokens, especially in Riku
River's Rebuke - Riku Copycat, Niv-Mizzet, Nicol Bolas Discard, and Jalira Polymorph - Being able to copy this with Riku to hit multiple players in a pinch makes me happy, but it will also get a lot of mileage in both Niv-Mizzet, Nicol Bolas, and Jalira.
Bishop of the Bloodstained - Edgar Markov Vampires
Raiders' Wake - Nicol Bolas Discard
Revel in Riches - Endrek Sahr Stax
Ruthless Knave - Endrek Sahr Stax
Sanctum Seeker - Edgar Markov Vampires
Angrath's Marauders - Gisela Burn - I like my damage doubling effects, but I'm wondering if 7 mana is just too much.
Sunbird's Invocation - Gisela Burn, RB Wort, Uril Enchantress - Any of my red decks that don't mind tapping out will probably see this at some poiint, but these three strike me as the ones that will enjoy the card advantage the most.
Trove of Temptation - Bosh - Ignoring the first clause, I'm much more interested in the Treasure tokens every turn.
Vance's Blasting Cannons/Spitfire Bastion - Gisela Burn
Wily Goblin - RB Wort - Seems like it could be good for the Goblin tribal deck
Growing Rites of Itlimoc/Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun - Ezuri Elves, Wort Tokens, Sisay Legends, Rhys tokens, Trostani Lifegain, Jarad, Prossh, Ghave, Riku - Any deck that runs Gaea's Cradle is eventually going to get one of these depending on cost/availability
Call to the Feast - Edgar Markov Vampires
Tishana, Voice of Thunder - Damia - Another Maro variant with some added upside
Vona, Butcher of Magan - Obzedat
Dowsing Dagger/Lost Vale - Bosh, Gisela - At a minimum, I'm going to try it in these two decks where sweeping away the plants is no big deal
Primal Amulet/Primal Wellspring - Niv-Mizzet and Gisela - My two biggest spellslinger decks could both use this
Treasure Map/Treasure Cove - Bosh, Derevi
Vanquisher's Banner - Ezuri Elves, Wort Goblins, Oloro Zombies, Edgar Markov Vampires
Cards I want to play but don't have a definite spot for yet

Star of Extinction
