I really want to make a 1v1 deck abusing Pierce Strider solely to justify this topic's existence now.
That said, I have known a couple of people in my playgroup to abuse Howling Banshee before. Maybe this will give them something else to focus their energies on.
Spoiler alert: There will be an artifact Planeswalker.
Not really. One can dream.
I did hear a rumor (which is probably JUST a rumor) that Teferi might be in Besieged, but I don't get why he'd be on Mirrodin. But a Teferi Planeswalker, or even a newer version, would probably rock EDH like nothing before.

Are you sure that you didn't just mishear someone saying Tezzeret? Teferi's most likely dead, unless he used the same trick that Venser did (we still don't know why Venser is still alive). Either way, if Tereri is still around, he's no longer a Planeswalker. He lost his spark back in Time Spiral.
Nah, he was definitely saying Teferi. Of course, he's our Organizer, and he's claiming to have heard it from a judge, who heard it from... you get the idea.
Personally, I will be hoping until the full spoiler is released. But, really, with as many Planeswalkers as there are in Blue already, I doubt they'd release another one.
I also heard whispers of Karn, but he, I think, lost his spark like Teferi. A colorless Planeswalker that animated Artifacts would be pretty sick, though.
Oh wait, there's already a blue one that does that.
Karn and Tezzeret are likely to be in this block; Tezzeret is almost certain to be in this set.
There will nt be an Artifact Planeswalker, because it gives PW's vulnerabilities that R&D doesn't want them to have. (how sad would you be if someone Naturalized your win condition?)
Let's keep baseless speculation out of here please. This thread is for discussion of confirmed cards.
Game Day's today! I doubt that my Standard deck will actually stand a chance towards snagging those promos (it should be noted that my deck has insufficient Mirran cards to even qualify) but one can dream, eh? That said, I doubt that either of those cards will make it into my EDH decks so meh
What about speculation based of new art? Cause i hear there is some good stuff in the rumor mill
If you are referring to the new Tezzeret art, its from an art book. It is entirely possible that it won't be used on a card at all.
It would really irritate me to find out that the badass artwork isn't getting used, but at the same time it would shut up everyone who says he's Phyrexian-aligned.
Quote from Cranial Insertion: When All You Have is a Hammer »
Q: Are the Mirrodin Besieged promos given out at Game Day legal for Standard?
A: They aren't. Cards are only Standard-legal if they're in one of the Standard-legal expansions. The cards are, however, legal in Legacy, Vintage, and EDH, which accept any released promos in addition to cards from sets.
Did I read Cranial Insertion wrong (re: Peace Strider and Pierce Strider) or do we need a tiebreaker? Based on the dragonhighlander.net's exact wording, viperesque has a point so this really hinges on whether the two striders are Vintage legal
P.S.: I don't actually want to use the cards but it helps when people at my LGS asks me
There are very few instances of cards being available before their prerelease. FTV: Dragons gave us Hellkite Overlord early, FTV: Relics gave us Sword of Body and Mind early, and these cards are available early. Given that EDH is a casual format, and these cards aren't really going to make an impact (If you can infinite blink, you can find a better target), I wouldn't throw out anyone that tries to play them.
Very late edit:
6.6 Legacy Format Deck Construction
Legacy decks may consist of cards from all Magic card sets, any edition of the core set, and all special sets, supplements, and promotional printings released by Wizards of the Coast.
Legacy allows any promotional printing, including Peace/Pierce Strider. Since the cards are legal in Legacy, they're legal in EDH.
Does the costing 1 less also affect counters to recast your general? For example, if I had 7 creatures in my graveyard and Karador has one counter on it does it cost 3 to play or 5 to play?
He's not 8CC, he's 8-xCC. You're going to be putting stuff into your graveyard with this guy and I can't see him being cast for more than 5 most of the time, barring tax.
Seems cool but I think I'd still play Teneb for GWB reanimator, just because he hits harder.
@Mongol: he would cost 5. General tax is an additional cost.
Very elegant. Cast means that his ability can be countered, but that's a winning proposition as it is. Also, Eldrazi appreciate being cast from the graveyard, especially Artisan of Kozilek, though you'll need some sort of shenanigans in order to recast Eldrazi Temples before they reshuffle. Also should be noted that flash creatures can be cast at any time on your turn. Probably not relevant outside of 5CC decks with Mystic Snake, but it's something to consider.
And his ability does affect his commander cost, I believe.
He's not so bad at all. His cost reduction effect counters the most of, if not all the cost of recasting commanders after they've been destroyed. (yes, getting a jump on the new terminolgy).
Think about it. You're playing, let's say...Niv Nizzet. How many times would you have tapped out 12 or even 14 to play the guy. I know I have. This new guy pays for himself quite well over time. The longer the game, the better he is. I like it.
Also, in pure speculation...the pic in arcana is cleary the black/red/white wedge. With it being all black and white with a halo of holy swords. Very cool.
Once again, please don't speculate here. Speculate in Speculation. Thanks. -viper
Oh yeah I'm excited for this. Overall, I think he's a great general, but mostly because of his colors. It's real easy in black to fill the graveyard with creatures before casting this guy, and then to recast those creatures? Its good beyond words.

I don't see much EDH relevance in these cards, though Pierce Strider could be interesting in blink-style decks like Rasputin Dreamweaver.
That said, I have known a couple of people in my playgroup to abuse Howling Banshee before. Maybe this will give them something else to focus their energies on.
Well, the rule is that cards are legal as of their set's prerelease. So no, not really, for what it matters.
(Although I don't think anyone in our group gets grumpy at the staff of the LGS for putting cards in their decks early. ;))
Time to think of infinite blink loops?

Ah, I mixed up these preview cards with the preview cards that came in from the FTVs and Duel Decks

Man, this is out of date. I'll fix it up later
