okay WTF happened? i was expecting c17 to be some nice tribal decks. Not this. Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist is great against creature heavy decks (if you can find a way to tap her, as attacking is not the best bet.) Traverse the Outlands is going straight into Molimo, Maro-sorcerer
Alms Collector only affects opponents, which makes it a perfect troll.
I like how Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith encourages people to equip as many creature as possible instead of voltron, and he literally comes into play as a 7/4 indestructible for six, while making all other equipments immediately attach to creatures you control.
And how I missed Mirri and Weatherlight. COmpare to her previous reincarnations she aims for suppression.
Interesting to see Selesnya going the typical Boros route, I wonder if they will finally introduce WR spellsling. (Now come to think of it, if they switch everything WG in spoiler to WR, they would still be fine flavor wise)
Love that Mirri, and my wife will too - she isn't a strongly tribal card, but she lets you play defense especially using Springleaf Drum, Survivor's Encampment, Glare of Subdual, anything with Convoke, anything with Conspire, vehicles, Honor-worn Shaku, Earthcraft, Selesnya Evangel to tap at instant speed without attacking. She can also just attack, especially if you make her unblockable (Rogue's Passage, Whispersilk Cloak), or give her Protection (Swords of whatever and whatever, Flickering Ward), or give her deathtouch (Bow of Nylea, Basilisk Collar), or just make her big enough to maul any blockers. And when you have built the token kitteh army, she can lead a lethal alpha strike so that fits into the penchant for going wide that Cats have.

I was wnating to build a deck using her and all this is great. It does not rectrct you ropponenst from attacking each other you attacking them, but they are stuck unable t block your forces or really hurt you. Kinda wish she was also in red (Naya)but whatever.
I usually don't play white, but I really want to run a green/white deck just to try and pull off this combo:
Turn 3: play Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist
Turn 4: play Balan, Wandering Knight
Turn 5: play any cheap equipment and attach it to Balan
Turn 6: play Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith
From then on, you just attack with Mirri and Balan. All your creatures become basically unblockable, and if Mirri's the commander, you get tons of free Commander Damage and win fast.
Even better, if the equipment you play on turn 5 is a Bloodstained Battleaxe, then you'll quickly have Balan serving up double-strike attacks and getting bigger and bigger each turn, speeding up your win.
I like how Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith encourages people to equip as many creature as possible instead of voltron, and he literally comes into play as a 7/4 indestructible for six, while making all other equipments immediately attach to creatures you control.
Ha, that's great.
Alms Collector is going straight into my Teeg "no fun allowed" deck.
Also, these GW spoilers are making Arahbo look worse and worse.

Mirri is probably gonna be the main commander people run. Arahbo is 99 bait since Mirri is so much better.
I am trying decided between The Ur-dragon and Ramos, Dragon Engine to helm a dragon tribal. One is better for dragon tribal itself while the other is just all around great (And already has two decks he will be piloting)

I enjoy that these decks overwhelmingly won't be linear tribal cards. Most of the tribal stuff will probably be nonspecific cards that each appear in multiple decks. It's good that these products, even when tribal, serve as toolboxes you can build other decks out of. Also, if the cat deck is any indication, these decks also teach newer players that tribal decks need other underlying themes if they want to work well.
I love pretty much everything thus far. If this is any indication, Wizards is staying true to form with the stellar quality of the commander precons.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
You know, every spoiler season goes by and every time I think to myself "Damn. When is WOTC going to print that one legendary that just screams ME?"
I finally got it, and it's a damn cat. Balan, Wandering Knight is perfect for mono-W voltron/stax, given that his ability makes equip costs totally negligible. I'm just looking at him and cataclysm (with a land in hand), or catastrophe, or tragic arrogance, etc.
His art is also sick. Mother****er is straight cheesing, with the pose and stuff.

He, and stax, also work great with the new 1 drop multiplying equipment. (Clonesplitter, if you will)
First hit, double your axes, equip said axes, second hit to double your axes again!

I am really excited to see more. Already we see a fair amount of cards that are in fact really good. (and non linear) so we can only hope that Wizards and amps are the same.
Alms Collector seems like a staple to me. White needed card draw and the fact that this hampers other people's draw is excellent. There are also fun ways to abuse this (wheels). I predict I will be annoyed by this many times. Hammer of Nazahn makes equipment a lot less clunky. Good for those who are interested. Nazahn, Revered Blacksmith is ovbiously strong where it was designed to go. I have no idea why it's green aside from the need for another mythic cat legend for the deck; the abilities all seem white to me. Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist seems very strong. It's a great way for wide decks to swarm without too much fear of dying on the crack back. I'm assuming that the green here is to support more tokens because the abilities seem white to me. Stalking Leonin seems really fun and is cleverly designed. I like that it can wait until there is an appetizing target on the chosen player's board and is easy to recur. Maybe this slots into Karador as more cheap removal. Bloodforged Battle-Axe is awesome. I love the design and I love the flavor. Hungry Lynx is INCREDIBLE. The flavor is perfect. The art is perfect. The card seems strong and fun. I love it. Balan, Wandering Knight seems better in the 99 if only because he is not remotely subtle as a voltron commander. He could be strong there though. Not my cup of tea but he does make equipment less clunky. Traverse the Outlands is decent ramp. Only getting basics is rough but it can get a lot of lands. Arahbo, Roar of the World is the tribal guy. It can be voltron or go wide or create an interesting mixture. Lost Leonin is strong with it. Eminence is cool. I like using the command zone and I like that they continue to explore it in non Oloro or Derevi ways (much as I love both of those cards).
Overall, I'm impressed with Caturday. I wasn't expecting to love the desing so much after thinking the last N sets have been meh. The cards for these precons are great and I am happy WotC is continuing the tradition. I also like how not every card is tribal. Indeed, only Arahbo screams cats while the rest are either more general (Mirri) or encourage other themes. First product I've really been stoked for in a while.
EDIT: Judging by Quintin's article on the mothership, this was supposed to be the unexpected tribe. Too bad Arahbo came so early and is still quite boring.

Yeah but the Collector is also a nice counter to any Notion Thief's running around and trying to draw a lot of cards off anyone.
Huh that is actually a tough call. Since notion thief would cancel Alms draw. Since notion thief is only drawn one card though alms would not be activated again.
This would need a ruling, i'll go ask the ruling committee.
Leovold did it better and notion theif still doe sit better.
But white can really appreciate the ability to draw. (Sadly it is only when a player draws 2 or more, but white will still love Alms)
Alms Collector is white, so it's a nice addition to the color arsenal against blue/black. AC also suppresses the damage Nekusar can do, while Notion Thief would make you die faster, AC is also politically more friendly than Notion Thief (a little bit) since you don't take everything or deny 1-card-at-a-time like Thief would.
EDIT: While some said the cat deck might as well be monowhite, the dual-color allows Majestic Myriarch to be played in an equipment deck like this, something one cannot do with mono white. I look forward to see how it work.

The way both work is that one one use of a replacement effect can happen at a time, that is why having 2 Notion Thief's in play doesn't create an infinite loop.
So in the case of 2 players
A G/W player and a second player with Notion Thief
If the G/W player say cast a Harmonize NT would trigger giving that player 3 cards and then Collector would trigger replacing that and then both people would just end up drawing 1.
When you add more players it becomes the choice of the active player how they want effects to stack which becomes trickier.
Notion Thief is still generally superior obviously because it doesn't care about number drawn.
Both can be used with a Consecrated Sphinx to draw their controller out of cards, however Collector is riskier.
