This commander set is clearly going to be hit or miss. Im so sure I wont be getting my revamped scarecrows, thus Im pretty "whatever" towards the whole thing.
In the end, people who love cats, dragons, something else and something else will go ape over it, then people who like tribal alot will like it alot, then the rest of us are going to be scraching our heads.
I know I wont be getting scarecrows, but I AM looking forward to two things. The first is a pipe dream, an actual werewolf commander after years of them disapointing us. The second is more realistic, good changling singles I can pick up in all the decks.
It makes too much sense to me. Changling are the litteral, fill the gap cards when it comes to tribal, and printing what otherwise is a lame bad cat, but can be used by every other tribal deck that didnt get represented would be wins for tribal as a whole.

I think it's a given that there will be either new changelings, new cards that work in any tribe (such as Distant Melody), or both. After all, the definition of "common" when they're printed for the first time in precon product like this is "we put it into multiple decks".

Right. Tribes are weird man. People who go nuts over cat tribal (blanket statement incoming) are also the same guys that like "fun/zany" stuff like chaos effects, squirrels, stuff like that. Dragons sorta attracts people who like big splashy effects that can be like game ending haymakers. I think well see more tribes that hit a different demographic than the others.
But I think as long as people stress the "there will be good exiting one ofs still, even if its not tribal" people will find something they enjoy out of it. I also think there are more players that like tribal then not, so even if its not a vocal success on "spike" forums, it will be a smash success on the sales because most new players like tribal.
For me, I'll wait until they hit up changelings and tribal matter spells. Based off the last few sets and these commanders (tribal horses, cats, minotaurs, Sphinx, Dwarf, even Artificer) they are being more and more wacky when supporting weird tribal lords.
Those who dont like tribal shouldnt be concerned here. Just because we have tribes doesnt mean we arent getting cards that dont work well without them. We've already seen from the spoiled dragons multiple cards that work fine without any dragon support. Consecrated sphinx doesnt need to be in a sphinx deck, etc.

I love tribal, but because Cats were underdeveloped in the past it feels underwhelming when it's chosen, and I cannot think of anything beyond combat after combat, unlike say Zombies which could have a milling them, or burn theme (such as Tymaret, the Murder King). The deck itself might change people's opinion (myself included).
I also prefer legends who could inspire more than one deck style.

There are 150 cats, 114 in GW, going back through the entire history of the game. 383 zombies and we already have multiple zombie tribal generals. I'm glad to see some variety rather than one of the big tribes getting rehashed for the umpteenth time. I'm also not sure why you think cats can do nothing but attack. There are numerous cats with heavy artifact themes, particularly equipment, lifegain themes, hatebears, even one with an enchantress effect. If there's any complaint about cats, it's that they don't have enough of a focus as a tribe. We've also only seen a single card from the deck. It's way too early to form any judgment on it.

Essentially this ^ the front man of the cat deck just feels very 1 dimensional and a bit like Xenagod. Hopefully the other cat legends could be more interesting. Im wanting to build an interesting GW deck but much like Boros has a thing for combat, GW feels like it Only does tokens.

As I mentioned posts before, I don't mind having less-than-prominant tribals so long as it covers up more than just one aspect of the tribe. This particular general is narrow in design and only takes care of a single facet of cats, sums up in one word: Combat, I hope other legends in the deck explores the rest of the themes further.
Combat is not an insignificant part of Commander and it doesn't seem odd to me that some things will just be better at doing that and be focused. This board seems hopelessly obsessed with non-combat ideas that the idea of something just wanting to turn sideways even in a well costed and efficient way is anathema to this place.

And as I said, the deck might change my opinion.
Sure. Most of your posts here haven't been talking about this general in particular though. You're saying that cat tribal is only good at turning sideways, cats don't have anything to offer beyond tokens and combat, cats have been underdeveloped in the past, and you don't understand why a one-dimensional tribe like cats was chosen. My post is a direct response to those points, defending cats as a tribal choice, not your feelings on the spoiled card we've seen from the deck.

I see both points. Cat commander is pretty combat orianted. I mean it does pump then double at a very hard place to interact with. If you are doing anything with the giant cat like greater good you have to do it after attacks. This guy is a combat commander.
But alot of us battle cruiser guys like combat commanders. In fact id be more into the cat if it was naya for red agressive assult effects
We got Magus of the Wheel in 2015, and Magus of the Will last year. If they follow the pattern of the colour pie, this year's Magus would be blue, but what iconic sorcery would they stand in for?
Still immediately banned. I wish we got more than one new one a year, though.
Anyway. Cats are cool. Happy I got a foil Caracal cheaply.
We just got a Magus of the Crucible in Hour, so adding another Magus would double the pace of Maguses being put out.

Oddly enough, I don't actually think a Time Walk magus would be that broken. 5 mana to cast and activate (albeit spread over two turns), having to wait a turn to use it (in a format where we have access to every creature removal spell in the game) and with a self exile clause added like Magus of the Will? I'd probably still run Time Warp over it in many cases.
Meanwhile, my personal preference for a blue sorcery based magus would be Magus of the Twister (hey, the original spell is EDH legal...).
So cats hmm? I won't be building it, but I have a slight hunch my wife (far more of a cat person than me) might. Also she rather lacks a straightforward tribal build so far, so she just might.
However, I like Arahbo's design here. Of course, remains to be seen what else we get in these decks...

I a skeptical about Tribal decks, they may be fun but many tribal decks fall short of competitive. (There are exceptions *Cough* Azami Wizard Tribal *cough* but overall, no.)

Who cares about these decks being competitive? They're meant to be an easy starting point for new players in the format while having some goodies left and right for established players. Tribal is a very easy point to start with for new players as it's clear-cut what a deck tries to do, yet also can provide various ways to branch out.

I guess I'd say it's very important for pre-cons to be functional, but not necessarily competitive. Some of the earlier decks simply didn't do anything and that's a very bad feeling for a new player trying to get into the format. IMO the mono colored Commander 2014 decks were the best at this and struck an excellent balance between value, accessibility, and functionality.
